"Hi, Im Sounder. Not long ago, I had a family of my own. Im not sure what I did wrong I loved them with all my heart. One day, they packed me into a carrier (much too small, if you ask me) and left me at Summits Sanctuary with nothing but a note. As if words on paper could make being left behind hurt any less. They said Im an active Black Mouth Cur from a busy family with no time except to feed me. Luckily, the kind people at SSAR stepped in, just like I hear they always do, and found me a loving foster home. There, I was able to heal from a bite injury and go through heartworm treatment, surrounded by people who truly cared. I stayed with my foster family for about two months. They gave me more love and care than I ever thought possible. Im now neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for heartworms, and on preventative medicine to keep me healthy. I dont even understand all the things they did for me... I just know I feel better than ever! Right now, Im back at Summits Sanctuary, but what I really want is a forever home. A place to belong. Welcoming Luke!!! Luke is a very handsome, big blue, 8 yr old boy with a docked tail that was dropped off at the shelter because his owner had died. Luke is definitely going to need a home where he can decompress from the trauma of losing the only family he's ever known. While at the shelter, he was introduced to another dog and Luke was not interested in playing. We are getting to know more about Luke's personality as he settles in. Luke needs a foster home.

Story
Dakota is a young adult probably 3 years old. He weighs about 65 lb. When he arrived he was heartworm positive. He has completed treatment as is doing great. Dakota is friendly but can be distrustful of strangers at first. He walks well on leash and will sit when asked. He can pull a bit. I use a training collar on him. He is well mannered. He will jump up but I've not had him put his feet on me. He loves attention and enjoys going for hikes with me. He would become a devoted, protective companion. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested negative (on monthly heartworm and flea preventive) and are microchipped. Upon adoption, the microchip will be registered with your contact information and you will be eligible to activate a free 30 day health insurance policy.
