"Hi, Im Sounder. Not long ago, I had a family of my own. Im not sure what I did wrong I loved them with all my heart. One day, they packed me into a carrier (much too small, if you ask me) and left me at Summits Sanctuary with nothing but a note. As if words on paper could make being left behind hurt any less. They said Im an active Black Mouth Cur from a busy family with no time except to feed me. Luckily, the kind people at SSAR stepped in, just like I hear they always do, and found me a loving foster home. There, I was able to heal from a bite injury and go through heartworm treatment, surrounded by people who truly cared. I stayed with my foster family for about two months. They gave me more love and care than I ever thought possible. Im now neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for heartworms, and on preventative medicine to keep me healthy. I dont even understand all the things they did for me... I just know I feel better than ever! Right now, Im back at Summits Sanctuary, but what I really want is a forever home. A place to belong. THOR IS IN THE HOUSE! Thor is a 6 year old, neutered big Weimie Boy (93 lbs!) that is looking for his forever family! But don't let his size fool ya! He's a love! He could stand to loose a pound or 5 (hey! can't we all?!), but he is a "big boned" guy, so he would probably do best with older children. He knows his basic commands and is very eager to please! He's housebroken and crate trained and loves his people - but definitely has a prey drive, so no cats (or squirrels!). He is good with other dogs of all sizes. He's even found a crazy Doodle friend who appreciates his gentle play! He's been a "man about town" with his foster dad while learning to walk with his gentle leader. You can find him greeting folks during his daily walks on the Atlanta Beltline and sampling the veggies at the weekly Farmer's Market! He's even polite when he meets other dogs while on his leash, so if you're looking for a weim to take with you to the park and restaurants - this is your guy! Welcome, Percy the love bug! Percy (1.5 Yrs.) came into rescue with his "baby momma", Lucy. They are NOT bonded, but he would do best in a home with another dog as a companion, but we would consider an only dogs home. He loves attention from his humans and will cuddle all day with you! He is good with other dogs and has been great around small children - though he is a big guy at 83 lbs, so he could easily knock over a small child when he jumps. He's not a fan of cats or farm animals. Plus, he's crate trained! Percy needs a foster or foster-to-adopt home to get this show on the road and to his new life! Is that you? Meet Toby! Toby is an approx. 8-year-old blue Weimaraner with a calm soul and a big, loving heart. He’s happiest stretched out on the floor, enjoying a good rest, soaking up snuggles, or taking his time sniffing and exploring the outdoors. He’s not in a rush—Toby appreciates life at an easy, laid-back pace. In his foster home, Toby gets along great with his foster sister Weim, shows no reaction to the outside cats, and is especially sweet and affectionate with the teenagers and his foster mom. He’s a loving, gentle presence and would thrive in a low-key home where he can enjoy companionship, cozy naps, and leisurely outdoor time. He is heartworm positive, and will be starting treatment soon. If you’re looking for a mellow, affectionate companion to share your space, Toby might just be your perfect match. Story
Dakota is a young adult probably 3 years old. He weighs about 65 lb. When he arrived he was heartworm positive. He has completed treatment as is doing great. Dakota is friendly but can be distrustful of strangers at first. He walks well on leash and will sit when asked. He can pull a bit. I use a training collar on him. He is well mannered. He will jump up but I've not had him put his feet on me. He loves attention and enjoys going for hikes with me. He would become a devoted, protective companion. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested negative (on monthly heartworm and flea preventive) and are microchipped. Upon adoption, the microchip will be registered with your contact information and you will be eligible to activate a free 30 day health insurance policy.
