Story
Every family deserves one dog who reminds them to slow down. That's Lizzie. Nicknamed "Lounge Lizard Lizzie," this sweet girl has turned relaxation into an art form. Whether she's stretched across the couch, soaking up the sunshine in the yard, or supervising life from the patio, Lizzie is happiest simply being near her people. She may be a little reserved when you first meet her, but don't let that fool you. Give her a little patience, a handful of gentle pets, and maybe a piece of popcorn, and you'll discover one of the sweetest, most loyal companions you'll ever know. Once you earn her trust, you'll be greeted with an enthusiastic helicopter tail every time you walk through the door, and she'll happily shadow you around the house just to make sure she doesn't miss out on anything. Lizzie is also surprisingly clever. She's a puzzle toy champion, loves figuring out treat games, and every now and then will break into an adorable game of fetch—especially if belly rubs are part of the deal. She is 4 yrs old, 29 lbs, fully housetrained and has wonderful manners indoors. She'll quietly let you know when she needs to go outside with a soft whimper or by waiting patiently at the back door. Lizzie dreams of a home with a fenced yard where she can wander, sniff the breeze, listen to the birds, and stretch out in the sunshine. She's still building confidence on leash walks, so a family willing to let her learn at her own pace will help her continue to blossom. Because she's a gentle soul, Lizzie would thrive in a calm home as an only dog or with another easygoing canine companion. (She hasn't met cats yet.) She isn't looking for adventure every minute of the day—she's looking for someone to share life's quiet moments with. If you've been searching for a loyal best friend who believes the perfect day includes sunshine, snacks, belly rubs, and simply being by your side, Lizzie has been waiting for you. **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our adoption questionnaire.* The adoption fee for this dog is $425. Routine vetting and spay or neuter surgery are included in the adoption fee. For more information, please email Katherine at kberger@petconnectrescue.org.

Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Macaroni: The Sweet, Shy Soul Ready to Blossom If you have a quiet home and a heart full of patience, Macaroni might just be the missing piece of your family. A survivor of a challenging past, Macaroni is learning that the world isn’t quite as scary as she once thought. While she is still discovering the simple joys of life, she is proof that with time and kindness, even the shyest dogs can show their true colors. The "Real Talk" on Macaroni Macaroni needs an adopter who respects her pace and understands that her progress is measured in small, beautiful moments: Earning Trust: Macaroni is not a "lap dog" in the traditional sense. She is still very fearful of direct touch; however, when she feels safe she’ll tentatively seek out chin scratches or give you a gentle "boop" with her nose when you aren't looking. She needs a home that will give her the space to approach you on her terms. The "Ignore" Rule: She is cautious around new people. Her way of managing nerves is to bark from a distance or retreat if someone tries to engage too quickly. She does best when visitors simply ignore her, allowing her the dignity and safety of deciding when to say hello. Potential Flight Risk: Macaroni is still adjusting to the concept of boundaries. She currently dislikes the leash and has shown a knack for jumping fences when overwhelmed. Because of this, she needs a secure yard and an adopter who understands her flight risk until she is fully bonded and confident in her surroundings. (The good news? If she does wander, she’s so attached to her people that she naturally gravitates right back.) Why You’ll Want Her on Your Team Once the "shell" comes off, Macaroni is a delight. She is not just a project; she is a personality waiting to shine: The Wiggle-Butt Factor: When she’s happy, she does the cutest, most infectious wiggle-butt dance. If you talk to her, she’ll light up, showing you the silly, playful side that has been waiting to come out. Morning Zoomies: Nothing beats the sight of Macaroni enjoying her morning zoomies in the yard. She’s learning how to play, how to chase, and how to be a dog. A True Friend: She loves her canine best friend, Cheese. Watching her blossom alongside him has shown us that she has a massive capacity for love—she just needs the right environment to let it out. The Perfect Match Macaroni is looking for a home that can offer: A Canine Mentor: She must have a confident, balanced dog in the home. She relies on other dogs to show her the ropes and help her feel secure enough to be herself. A Low-Traffic Environment: Because of her fear of strangers, she would thrive in a home with adults or older teens who can respect her need for space. Patience and Security: An adopter who is committed to a "safety-first" approach regarding leashes and fences, and who understands that she needs time to settle in before she truly reveals her full, playful personality. Are you the patient, steady hand Macaroni has been waiting for? She has so much love to give to the right person. If you're ready to provide a sanctuary for this sweet, wiggly girl, please click the apply button today! We would love to see Macaroni and Cheese find their forever home together. If that isn't possible, she still requires a home with another confident dog to help her navigate her new world.
