Story
One of our compassionate New Mexico rescuers saved the life of this very sweet and irresistible Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) / Chihuahua mix with hopes of transporting him to Colorado for a new and wonderful life. Conrad's rescuer had the following to say about our loving guy, "This gorgeous gentleman doesn't belong in a terrifying, overcrowded shelter! He deserves a warm spot on the couch and loads of love all around. He's just that sweet and wonderful!" Conrad is just about 2.5 years old and a tiny 8 lbs. He was pronounced very healthy with an excellent temperament by his New Mexico vet. This little guy is at such a great age..old enough to be past his babyish behaviors and young enough to embrace his new life with an appreciation for all the wonderful new possibilities it holds for him. Conrad's coat is currently a bit shelter-sad. He will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition including 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement. This excellent nutritional regimen will not only give Conrad a shining, cottony-soft coat but a very healthy long life as well. Conrad is such a devoted and smart little guy. He now knows he's safe and is so much more relaxed and far less fearful than before. Sweet Conrad is actually blossoming with great health and hope for an amazing future since he's been with his rescuer. Initially this poor little guy was so frightened due to all the changes in his life but with patience and love, he's truly emerging! Our tiny pup has made great progress each and every day and is on his way to being a well-adjusted dog who is open to new relationships, behaviors and adventures. Conrad absolutely loves his walks and being outdoors. He's working on his leash skills with his rescuer and is making progress every day. Hikes along gorgeous Colorado trails will speak to this little guys love of being out and about where he can socialize with other dog-lovers. Conrad also enjoys his couch time that includes periodic hugs, praise and treats that make him feel so good about himself and his brand new life. Conrad is such a fun and silly pup once comfortable in his environment. We hope his new family will choose to spend lots of time enjoying his silly and endearing antics. Every day when Conrad's rescuer comes into view, she's greeted by a very joyous and loving little dog giving happy kisses with a helicopter tail. He's a love bug that will be initially shy due to all the very challenging changes in his life, but with a bit of time, patience and love, he emerges with his goofy waggy tail and sweet smile. Farfel's Rescue has made the decision that we'd like to see Conrad in a home with dog-loving and devoted retirees that spends lots of time at home. We hope they'll enjoy taking their furry best friend along when going on dog-friendly adventures. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a good choice for this people-loving pup who will love nothing more than periodic hugs and loving over the course of the day. Conrad is at his absolute best when he feels secure and loved by a dog-crazy family. He's experienced turmoil in his young life and we're seeking a home where he can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that his family will always have his best interests at heart. Conrad hasn't been tested with cats. He's compatible, however, with gentle dogs with similar energy levels to his own, but doesn't necessarily require these relationships to be happy. We think Conrad would enjoy a dog to play with but wonder if he might be happy as an only dog with a family that will shower full-time love and pampering on him. He would return that love and kindness a million times over as he falls more and more in love with his family. Luigi has been fully vetted, vaccinated and neutered to support Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs that won't contribute to the overpopulation tragedy within the canine population. Luigi will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 4/22/2026. If interested in this beautiful and very cuddly, loyal and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Conrad, please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue!

Story
Nicolas is a 1-2 year old Terrier mix, likely with some Yorkie. He found himself at Beeville Animal Control after a Good Samaritan witnessed him being abused by unhoused person. Unfortunately this sweetie sat there for two weeks and nobody claimed him. Since they only have 5-6 kennels he would quickly lose his spot be euthanized for space, so our rescuer stepped in and saved him. Nicolas is very playful and just wants to play all the time. We think he would be best in an active household and would benefit from a canine brother or sister, or two. He does have an off switch when you put him in his kennel. He can be submissive with other dogs but is a rough, vocal player. He has an affinity for squeaky toys, perhaps too much? This good boy is good on leash, good with kids, and would make a great apartment dog. He does wear a belly band and does great with it! He needs to be monitored outside or he will dig a hole to freedom! Our best guess is that Nicolas is perhaps a Yorkshire Terrier mix (he's bigger than a full Yorkie)- but playing 'guess the breed,' for street dogs is really hard! Nicolas has traveled up from San Antonio, Texas, for a new life in the sunshine and mountains of Colorado! He is being fostered in Denver, available to meet! ***Nicolas is being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/dog).*** Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2614911##
