Story
Meet Rodney Copperbottom (ACCT-A-236495)! This handsome fellow seems to be a Yorkie mix with a beautiful brown coat. Rodney is looking for a special home where he can truly shine.
Rodney is a smart cookie who is very treat-motivated, which makes him a willing participant in training. He enjoys gentle affection, especially belly rubs and chin scratches! He also loves rolling around on his back, enjoying all the good things in life. He walks nicely on a leash, enjoying all the sniffs along the way.
Rodney can be a bit particular about being touched and picked up, and he’s letting us know he prefers things done on his terms. Because of this, we believe Rodney would thrive in an adult-only home with an experienced adopter who understands canine body language and is willing to work with him using positive reinforcement methods. Muzzle training may be beneficial for making grooming a more positive experience.
He needs a patient and understanding adopter willing to give him the space and time he needs to adjust and build trust. Are you the special someone who can give Rodney Copperbottom the loving and supportive home he deserves? He's waiting to meet you!
**Important Note:** Rodney has some behavioral concerns that any adopter will need to be fully aware of and prepared to manage. Please review his complete notes and discuss them thoroughly with ACCT Philly staff before considering adoption. We highly recommend working with a certified veterinary behaviorist or professional trainer to help Rodney adjust and thrive in his new home.
Behavior notes:
Behavior evaluation 11/12/2025:
Kennel Presentation: standing in kennel, soft eyes, gentle pant. Tossed treats to the back of the kennel, and put leash in. As he approached he stopped, and a small lasso was used to leash successfully and quickly.
Leash Skills: Walks on a loose leash. Lots of sniffing, and went potty multiple times.
Sociability: Aloof, tolerant being in proximity. Tail middle, soft eyes. Pet on back and sides, at times he would stiffen and do a head whip toward my hand with a closed mouth.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction:Met Nahla thru the fence and on leash. High tail, choppy movements away, growled when approached quickly while moving away. Sniffed the other dog, then was less vocal while remaining with choppy movements, and keeping a small distance.
Return to Kennel: needed treats and some mild leash pressure to go back.
Color Level: blue
Recommendations and considerations: adult only home preferred due to behavior work being touched and picked up. Recommend muzzle training to make regular grooming more feasible.
Per volunteer 11/9: Rodney demand barks in his kennel, so I assume he wanted to go out. Unfortunately he is a challenge to leash so it took multiple attempts. Thankfully, he is treat motivated and he is in a lower surgical kennel.Once leashed, he comes right out, and sets a nice little walking pace. He is very housetrained. I carefully switched out my regular leash for a little nylon leash, so I was ready when i had to return him to his kennel. He is gentle taking treats, is very happy, and seems to love rolling around on his back. He was very good accepting belly rubs, some petting of his back, and under chin scratches. I did try and pick him up, but he was a little grumbly, so I left that alone. I tossed in treats to return him to his kennel, and was able to get my leash later after it had fallen loose.
Per staff 11/5/2025 8:30pm dog does not want to be touched and will bite. Needs some TTA to chill out.
