Meet Cashew, a sweet 2-year-old Akita mix who is now available for adoption at the Newport Beach Animal Shelter.Cashew recently has a rare condition called masticatory muscle myositis, which affects her jaw muscles. She can eat and drink comfortably, but has some difficulty picking up toys.Cashew knows how to sit and lay down, and she gets bursts of playful energy from time to time. She would benefit from continued training to help her build confidence and skills. We are still learning how she feels about other dogs.If you think Cashew might be the right match for your home, we invite you to come meet her.

Kuma is a dignified pup searching for a family who will appreciate his gentle nature and loyal heart. We're still getting to know him, but he's already shown us what a genuinely sweet and handsome boy he is. Kuma loves nothing more than treats, gentle pets (once he gets to know you, of course), and the company of his favorite people - once he decides you're in his circle, he's all in with soft eyes and quiet affection. Kuma does best with thoughtful outings and a calm environment. He can be a bit reactive on leash when he sees other dogs, so his future family should plan on walks during quieter times of day and choose paths with fewer canine passersby. With consistency, positive reinforcement, and awareness of his surroundings, he'll feel more comfortable and confident during his adventures. He would love a family that appreciates his loyal nature and is ready to provide structure, patience, and plenty of care. Hatchi’s story is heartbreaking — he came into the shelter with his brother, but when their owner returned, they only took his brother… leaving Hatchi behind in a high-kill shelter. He soon found himself on the euthanasia list. Hatchi is now in a loving foster home and is looking for his forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and supported again. Hatchi does require eye drops daily for the remainder of his life. In our dream world, Hatchi would find a human that would help him feel confident and secure in a FINALLY stable environnment.
