Story
How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by their previous owner on June 23, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Maddie is a sweet, sensitive nature. She is slow to warm up to new people but has made great progress with positive reinforcement and now seeks out gentle affection like chest rubs and back pets once she feels safe. Maddie is crate trained, polite, and does best with calm, patient handling. She has a positive history with other dogs and has enjoyed successful play sessions while in care. Maddie has no known history with cats and would do best in a home with children 12 years and older who can respect her boundaries. She will need continued positive-reinforcement leash training and does best with a martingale collar and 6-foot leash. Maddie would thrive in a quiet, understanding home that allows her time to build trust and confidence. With patience and consistency, she will reward her adopter with quiet affection and loyalty. At SDHS:This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home! Primary Color: Tan Weight: 61 Age: 3yrs 6mths 0wks

Story
Simba has spent too long waiting for his forever family. 💔 This strong and spirited Akita-Husky mix is full of energy, loves his toys, and is happiest on long walks or playing with his human. He’s sweet, loyal, and ready for the right home. If you’re looking for a dog with personality and heart, Simba is waiting to meet you! 🐕 Adopt Simba: https://form.jotform.com/221926016430144 Full profile: Simba is a 6-8-year-old Akita-Husky mix with the personality of an Akita and the heart of a lion. He’s playful, sweet, and full of energy but needs a confident and strong adopter who understands his needs. 💪 Strength & Training: Simba is powerful and can pull when excited, so he needs someone physically capable of managing his strength. He’s learning commands like sit, down, paw, and “potty” and thrives with structure. A harness might help with his pulling. 🐾 Energy & Personality: Simba is not always a couch potato! He loves long walks (2+ miles is no problem), playing with his toys, and getting plenty of attention. He’s affectionate and cuddly but always ready for adventure. 🏡 Home Needs: Simba would do best in a home without small children due to his strength and energy. He’s good with other dogs, especially more timid ones, but does best with boundaries around toys and space. He’s also quite the counter-surfer, so keeping things out of reach is key! 🐕 Health: Simba has a thyroid condition that is managed with treatment, giving him renewed energy and playfulness. Simba has had a lot of love and care from his foster, but he’s ready to find his forever home. If you’re looking for a strong, loyal, and playful companion, Simba could be your perfect match. 💙 Ready to meet Simba? Apply to adopt him and give this big-hearted boy the home he deserves. 📌 Share to help Simba find his forever home Currently being cared in Southern California, but can be transported up to northern states, such as Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and anywhere within the US continental, if a great suitable family is willing to adopt him.

Story
Kito reminds us of those popular dog toys, the Squishmallow's. No one told him he was an Akita and is supposed to be stoic, protective and scary. He is ALL wiggles, smiles and LOVES his volunteers and rescue teams. The world outside is still kind of scary but with each event hes getting better and better. Before he would frantically spin the entire walk, but now he will patiantly sit on the grass at our Point Loma event or on a Pack Walk. True to any large dog, he doesn't know hes massive and anyone sitting on the grass is bound to have a Kito as a lap warmer. He loves hugs, brushes and being told how darn good looking he is. He is quite large, so he will need someone strong and well grounded to walk him in the event something spooks him unexpectedly. Although he's never met a person he didn't like, due to size, we are saying no kids under the age of 15, he's just WAY too goofy and tall. Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  No off leash activites for life in unfenced areas.  I need to stay safe.To adopt: https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/37765/genericTo foster: https://petstablished.com/foster_form/37764/genericEmail: awayhomefordogs@gmail.com ##1305366##

Kiyoshi likes other dogs but can be a bit enthusiastic at first, so slow introductions are best.Kiyoshi is looking for a calm, loving home with someone who appreciates his independent yet affectionate nature.
