Story
Togo is a 3-year-old malamute mix and amazing with other dogs (big and small). He is energetic and enjoys outings but is okay with daily 30-40 min power walks as long as he has a large back yard to run in throughout the day. Togo is very independent and playful but enjoys hanging out with people (including children-he and my 6 yr old love each other). We adopted him from a shelter in Oakland a little over a year ago and have worked with him on basic commands, walking on and off-leash, crate training, and being gentle, and he has done amazing! The only reason we are rehoming him is because he cannot be with small animals such as cats (small dogs are okay). Shelter thought he will be okay with cats, but we found him to be an opportunist. After some training he has some control, but he will go after our cats whenever unsupervised. He has caught small critters before and is not just playing, so he must be in a home without cats or other small animals. He would be a great second dog.

Story
Thor is a staff and volunteer favorite, and once you meet him it's easy to see why. This 70 lb love-bug craves affection and will lean against you while you pet him and tell him he's a good boy. Once he's out of the chaotic shelter environment, Thor walks nicely on leash and has wonderful manners. He knows the "sit" command and takes treats gently. He's an intelligent boy and would thrive in a home that will provide plenty of enrichment and teach him new commands. Thor loves toys and will jump into the toy bin in the play yard to select his own playthings. He enjoys fetch and tug-o-war, and playing with other dogs. To set up a meet and greet with Thor, go to HSNB.org and fill out a dog adoption interest application. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 67 Age: 3yrs 5mths 0wks

Story
Good day, I'm Yami, known for my handsome good looks and smoldering baby blues. What makes me stand out is I perform a "happy" bouncy dance for the volunteer walkers before they take me out for a walk and to play. It works because they are always happy after my dance. It's magical.Like most huskies, I'm smart, friendly, but shy, good disposition, and affectionate. I enjoy snuggling, pets, kisses, going on walks, playing with toys and snacks. I walk well on a leash and know basic commands like sit, down, wait, and heel, but I'm sure with love, structure and guidance I can learn alot more. The volunteers have been working with me on my manner and I have improved a great deal. I'm compatible with other dogs, but am dog selective. If you have a dog, you can bring it to visit me to see if we can be friends. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of cats or other small animals. I'm compatible with well-behaved older kids and would thrive with an active, loving family that has the time to provide me with both physical and mental stimulation. I know I can bring joy and happiness to your family. Please come see for yourself. I'll do my "happy" dance for you.My adoption fee of $150 means I'll come to you neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all my vaccinations. Please visit www.hsnb.org to fill out an adoption interest application and set-up a date. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 73.375 Age: 6yrs 2mths 4wks

Story
Meet HIROMI HIROMI was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. She is approx 4 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! Story
What kind of person drops off their beloved family member at a boarding facility, says they’ll be back in two days and is never seen or heard from again? After multiple attempts, the staff finally reached the owners. Their response was they were not coming back for him. Imagine you are Ponyo, waiting day after day, and one day becomes two, then two days becomes a week and then a month. At what point do dogs give up hope? Akitas are known for their fierce loyalty and devotion. Sadly, in this instance his loyalty was rewarded with betrayal. Thankfully, Ponyo is resilient and his joy of freedom overshadowed his despair. He’s 4yrs old and is a happy, fun-loving boy. He is best as an only dog and requires an experienced Akita owner. Ponyo is settling in and is getting plenty of attention, interaction and enrichment. Story
Meet TOBI We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is very bright. He is a big boy with a heart the size to match. He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life. Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him. He also has an unabashed, confident side to him. He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again. He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best. Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement. He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul.
