You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC        Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog. He is sweet, happy, and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is around 10 years old.    Pluto is great with people (including kids) and most dogs. His favorite things include pets, cuddles, naps, and chew toys. He keeps himself entertained but will play fetch and enjoys walks and road trips.    Pluto plays well with our other dogs, however, we have noticed that he can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He knows basic commands like come, sit, drop, paw, etc. He is quiet and will only briefly bark when we have a package or visitor. He will use the bathroom in a fenced yard or on walks. He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but was very interested. He might tolerate cats as he did learn to ignore our chickens. We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.    Pluto is crate trained; however, he is not crated at his foster home. He is well mannered so he is allowed unsupervised access to most of the house. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with. Rarely will he chew up things he is not supposed to (he likes to tear up cardboard boxes). He is used to us being gone during the day for work and seems to spend most of the day sleeping or playing with our other dog.   As he ages, his back legs are getting weaker. He has learned how to swim, which has helped strengthen his muscles. He loves to swim and now gets overly excited when we visit the pool. Pluto would need an owner who is experienced in caring for an older, larger dog and give him the patience he needs. He requires extra time to get up and moving and assistance getting into vehicles.    At night, Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep with us but snores way too loud. Pluto is a wonderful dog who is gentle, and friendly. He is always ready for attention, but will keep himself busy chewing on toys or napping if you are busy. He will make a great family pet. Could you consider giving him the loving home he deserves?    EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants should ideally live no further than one hour from Cary NC.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize adoptions.  For the perfect home for Pluto, we will considered approved applicants who live a bit further away from the Triangle area of NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? Story
🐾 Meet Henry Marcel — aka Hank! 🐶 Rescued from a busy intersection, Hank is a lovable, goofy sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This young pup is friendly, sociable, and very food-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. Since joining IAR, Hank has been working hard on crate training and basic commands—and he's doing great! He’s got a clumsy charm that’ll keep you laughing, and he starts each day with his favorite ritual: a good morning walk to stretch those long legs and burn off his boundless energy. Hank’s hobbies include: 🦴 Chewing water buffalo horns 🎾 Playing with Kong-style toys 🐿️ Patrolling the yard for squirrels with his furry foster brother (a 6-year-old male) 🌞 Sunbathing in his favorite warm spot Hank is current on vaccinations and preventatives, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative — ready to step right into your life. He would thrive in a home that can match his energy and continue helping him learn the ropes. If you're looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who brings joy, laughter, and a bit of goofiness—Hank is your guy!

Story
Meet Marley - The 90-Pound Gentle Goofball! Marley is a giant sweetheart wrapped in a 90-pound package of joy. This big boy might look impressive, but on the inside he's basically a puppy-silly, soft, and eager to make friends. He's wonderfully polite, too. Marley knows how to sit and takes treats gently, showing off his excellent manners. When meeting new people, he doesn't jump-he simply drops into an enthusiastic play bow, as if to say, "Hi! Wanna be best friends?" He's a lovable galoot through and through. In the kennel, Marley can be a bit barky, but once he's out in the yard, he's all fun and games. Before his playmate even arrived, he busted out the zoomies to let everyone know he was ready to party. In playgroups, Marley is a big meaty boy with a heart of gold. He offers fantastic play bows, loves lively play, and brings cheerful energy to the whole yard.Marley is the perfect combo of gentle manners and goofy charm. If you're looking for a big-hearted buddy who'll bring endless smiles and silliness into your life, Marley might be your guy.If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Marley, 260045".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Meet Chip — a 1-year-old Boxer/Pit Mix weighing 42 lbs, full of energy, charm, and love! Quick Facts: Name: Chip Breed: Boxer/Pitbull Mix Age: 1 year old Weight: 42 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: No (unless they really like to be chased!) Good with Kids: Yes (prefer school-aged kids who like to run and play) Energy Level: Medium to High Fence Required: No (he is good on a leash) About Chip’s Breed: Our best guess is that Chip is a Boxer/Pitbull mix. The Boxer/Pitbull mix, often called a Bullboxer Pit, is a strong, energetic, and affectionate hybrid breed. They combine the loyalty and protective instincts of the Pitbull with the playful, athletic nature of the Boxer, making them excellent companions for active families. These dogs are typically medium to large in size (around 50–80 lbs) and thrive in homes where they receive consistent training, early socialization, and plenty of exercise. They are known to be loving, loyal, and good with children, but because of their energy and strength, they do best with experienced owners who can provide structure and outlets for play. An ideal home for a Boxer/Pitbull mix is one with space to run, an active lifestyle, and a family ready to give them both affection and guidance. All About Chip: Chip is “all boy” with a playful spirit and an infectious little smile that wins hearts everywhere he goes! Despite a rough start to life, his endearing nature shines through—he’s potty trained, crate trained, and has excellent house manners. He can be trusted uncrated when you’re away and is very polite at mealtime, though his love of food means he’ll happily scarf down his own (and anyone else’s) if given the chance! Known as the “social butterfly” of the rescue, Chip loves literally everyone he meets. He’s an enthusiastic playmate with other dogs and great with kids, especially school-aged children who can match his playful energy. Cats, however, aren’t the best fit—Chip can’t quite understand why they don’t want to play chase. On leash, Chip does well and would thrive with an active family ready for adventures like hiking, running, or long walks. He has a more dominant play style and would do best in a home with more submissive and playful dogs for now. He would also do well as a solo pup! While he loves to snuggle and hug, Chip can be what we jokingly refer to as “aggressively affectionate”, sometimes to the point of being overwhelming, but he responds beautifully to food treats and positive reinforcement. Chip’s Highlights: • 42 lbs of playful energy, loves to play hard and smile big • Potty and crate trained, with great house manners • Social butterfly, adores people and dogs alike • Best with school-aged kids, loves active play • Not cat-friendly, he thinks they like to be chased and played with • Adventure-ready, enjoys hiking, running, and walking • Affectionate snuggler, loves hugs and responds well to treats Chip is the bestest, best boy—a loving, playful companion who’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and adventure to his forever family! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We assist with coordinating transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!December 16, 2025, 1:32 pm
