He is sweet, happy, and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is around 10 years old.    Pluto is great with people (including kids) and most dogs. His favorite things include pets, cuddles, naps, and chew toys. He keeps himself entertained but will play fetch and enjoys walks and road trips.    Pluto plays well with our other dogs, however, we have noticed that he can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He knows basic commands like come, sit, drop, paw, etc. He is quiet and will only briefly bark when we have a package or visitor. He will use the bathroom in a fenced yard or on walks. He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but was very interested. He might tolerate cats as he did learn to ignore our chickens. We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.    Pluto is crate trained; however, he is not crated at his foster home. He is well mannered so he is allowed unsupervised access to most of the house. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with. Rarely will he chew up things he is not supposed to (he likes to tear up cardboard boxes). He is used to us being gone during the day for work and seems to spend most of the day sleeping or playing with our other dog.   As he ages, his back legs are getting weaker. He has learned how to swim, which has helped strengthen his muscles. He loves to swim and now gets overly excited when we visit the pool. Pluto would need an owner who is experienced in caring for an older, larger dog and give him the patience he needs. He requires extra time to get up and moving and assistance getting into vehicles.    At night, Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep with us but snores way too loud. Pluto is a wonderful dog who is gentle, and friendly. He is always ready for attention, but will keep himself busy chewing on toys or napping if you are busy. He will make a great family pet. Could you consider giving him the loving home he deserves?    EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants should ideally live no further than one hour from Cary NC.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize adoptions.  For the perfect home for Pluto, we will considered approved applicants who live a bit further away from the Triangle area of NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? Online Adoption Application › Rusty is a super friendly and loving dog saved on his last day at the shelter.  He is so good with dogs that he has been used as a dog tester at the shelter. The Boxer/Pitbull mix, often called a Bullboxer Pit, is a strong, energetic, and affectionate hybrid breed. They combine the loyalty and protective instincts of the Pitbull with the playful, athletic nature of the Boxer, making them excellent companions for active families. These dogs are typically medium to large in size (around 50–80 lbs) and thrive in homes where they receive consistent training, early socialization, and plenty of exercise. They are known to be loving, loyal, and good with children, but because of their energy and strength, they do best with experienced owners who can provide structure and outlets for play. An ideal home for a Boxer/Pitbull mix is one with space to run, an active lifestyle, and a family ready to give them both affection and guidance. All About Chip: Chip is “all boy” with a playful spirit and an infectious little smile that wins hearts everywhere he goes! Despite a rough start to life, his endearing nature shines through—he’s potty trained, crate trained, and has excellent house manners. He can be trusted uncrated when you’re away and is very polite at mealtime, though his love of food means he’ll happily scarf down his own (and anyone else’s) if given the chance! Known as the “social butterfly” of the rescue, Chip loves literally everyone he meets. He’s an enthusiastic playmate with other dogs and great with kids, especially school-aged children who can match his playful energy. Cats, however, aren’t the best fit—Chip can’t quite understand why they don’t want to play chase. On leash, Chip does well and would thrive with an active family ready for adventures like hiking, running, or long walks. He has a more dominant play style and would do best in a home with more submissive and playful dogs for now. He would also do well as a solo pup! While he loves to snuggle and hug, Chip can be what we jokingly refer to as “aggressively affectionate”, sometimes to the point of being overwhelming, but he responds beautifully to food treats and positive reinforcement.
