Story
HI - I'M SANDY! I'm a 6-1/2-year-old sweet snuggler girl who needs a foster or forever home! I've been waiting for TWO YEARS for someone to choose me. I love to cuddle, hang out and watch TV, and go for walks, hikes, and other adventures. I do well with some dogs (I used to live in a home with a female dog), but prefer people to other dogs so I can get all of the attention. If you're looking for a snuggler, someone to share your bed and hug, I'm it! I truly am a lap dog, and I crave human attention and affection. I'm also super happy, and am just waiting for my person or people to come along. I weigh about 56 lbs. I would love a home for the holidays!

Story
MEET JAZZ, a handsome, loving, 6-year-old black Pit Bull Terrier mix (likely mixed with Boxer) in need of a foster or forever home. Jazz has been waiting for awhile and keeps getting overlooked, but he's so deserving of a home! He's friendly & loyal once he has bonded. He can be a bit shy in the beginning, but that wears off quickly. He's playful, smart, protective, brave, curious, athletic, independent and handsome. He will make a good couch potato once he knows he's home. Jazz would do best in an adult-only home with people who really want to give a home to a dog in need. He promises he won't disappoint. He will make a good protector, because of his unwaivering loyalty. He doesn't demand a lot of attention or affection, and in fact is a bit more independent. He can be protective a bit of his space and food, probably due to his pre-shelter history. He was rescued from a California shelter in the nick of time. Jazz would also do best as the only dog in the home. His ideal adopter would be a single person or couple who wants a faithful companion. He loves the outdoors and loves to run around, and would be happy to go for walks and hikes with you. He weighs about 55 lbs., so is a smaller boy. If you can foster or adopt Jazz, please email for an application.

Story
MEET GABE! Gabe is a 6-year-old sweet and stocky Pit Bull Terrier in need of a foster or forever home. He was originally rescued from a crowded California shelter. He has waited awhile and keeps getting overlooked. His nose is shaped like a heart and he's ready to love you! Gabe loves humans and loves to go on road trips, walks, and other outings. He makes a great passenger. He also loves to play fetch and can self-entertain. Gabe is good with some dogs but not others - same with cats! So Gabe would probably thrive as the only pet in the home. He weighs about 60 lbs. We're hoping Gabe can find a home in the new year because he deserves it. Please email for an application.

Story
HI - I'M FLETCH! I'm a stunning young brindle & white Pit Bull Terrier puppy, in need of a foster or forever home. I was recently rescued from a scary California shelter in the nick of time. I became urgent because I simply had a cold. Now I'm doing great, and am a happy puppy! I'm a lovable, dog-friendly boy who loves his humans, and loves to play with other dogs. Because I'm a pup, so I'm told, I do need some help with behaviors like jumping up, grabbing things with my teeth, and other typical puppy shenanigans. But I'm very loving and eager to please. I weigh about 45-50 lbs currently, but am a growing pup. I would do best in an adult-only home or a home with teenage kids. I have the most beautiful coat and sweet face and temperament. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

Story
BEST HOLIDAY WISHES FROM BRUCE, a 5-year-old large Pit Bull Terrier with a heart full of love and loyalty. Bruce was rescued from a California shelter awhile back, and he is still waiting for a foster or forever home. He is a sweet soul, always eager to please his person or people. He's been good with kids in the past and non-destructive, making him a wonderful addition to families with older children (due to his size). He gets along well with some dogs, but is a big boy so needs a strong and experienced owner. Born in a shelter and later dumped by his people, Bruce knows the value of a loving home. His sweet nature and gentle disposition make him a perfect companion. He weighs about 80 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
Kilo is fun-loving goof-ball whose cheerful, warm personality always brings a smile. Kilo and his friend Chloe lived a fairly tough life, outdoors, with their previous owner, who provided the best care he could for them for many years. But when he became very ill, he tearfully surrendered the dogs to us in order to get the care and shelter he needed for himself. Kilo gives an initial `woof` when new people approach, but softens quickly and loves to bring a stuffed toy along when he meets new friends. He has well-developed dog social skills, and has lived well with Chloe and other dogs, but he also really loves not having to share attention and resources with other dogs, so he might enjoy a home where he`s the only dog. He`s pretty easy to walk on leash and loves opportunities to go on sniffaries and other mellow adventures, as well as just having a little romp in a yard or on a long-line. We think this resilient guy deserves a sheltered, loving home to spend his golden years in, don`t you?Now through July 19th, adoption fees are reduced to $70 thanks to the BISSEL Pet Foundation`s Empty the Shelter event! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.Data Updated: This information was refreshed 50 minutes ago.
