Story
HI - I'M SANDY! I'm a 6-1/2-year-old sweet snuggler girl who needs a foster or forever home! I've been waiting for TWO YEARS for someone to choose me. I love to cuddle, hang out and watch TV, and go for walks, hikes, and other adventures. I do well with some dogs (I used to live in a home with a female dog), but prefer people to other dogs so I can get all of the attention. If you're looking for a snuggler, someone to share your bed and hug, I'm it! I truly am a lap dog, and I crave human attention and affection. I'm also super happy, and am just waiting for my person or people to come along. I weigh about 56 lbs. I would love a home for the holidays!

Story
HI - I'M SMILEY! I certainly live up to my name because I love to smile (just not always for the camera)! I'm a 4-1/2-year-old happy, handsome and stocky male Pit Bull Terrier. I'm all muscle! I was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, after I had been there for 5 whole months! During that time, I had multiple kennel mates. At the shelter, I had regular play dates with other pups, and was even kenneled with a couple of huskies. Since exiting the shelter, though, we've determined I may be best as an only dog or maybe with a submissive female. I weigh about 50 lbs currently. Can you foster or adopt me? I've waited awhile for a home. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Chassie, the lil pittie border collie mix! This 11 month old black and white guy came to the Shelter due to no fault of his own (landlord). He lived in a home with teenagers and a dog-friendly cat. He had some dog friends (a Doberman and a Bassett Hound) who he liked to play with. He is house trained and would go for daily walks. He is okay when left alone but also would go most places with his previous guardian. Although a little nervous when he first arrived, staff have now observed that Chassie comes over and immediately leans into people, rolls around and lays in people’s laps. If you are looking for a big lap dog – this may be your guy. Chassie also has enjoyed playing with other dogs since his arrival (Harper and Star Gazer – also up for adoption). A resident dog in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
MEET GABE! Gabe is a 6-year-old sweet and stocky Pit Bull Terrier in need of a foster or forever home. He was originally rescued from a crowded California shelter. He has waited awhile and keeps getting overlooked. His nose is shaped like a heart and he's ready to love you! Gabe loves humans and loves to go on road trips, walks, and other outings. He makes a great passenger. He also loves to play fetch and can self-entertain. Gabe is good with some dogs but not others - same with cats! So Gabe would probably thrive as the only pet in the home. He weighs about 60 lbs. We're hoping Gabe can find a home in the new year because he deserves it. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Chapo, the black and white pittie mix! This middle aged guy originally came into the Shelter’s care after the prior guardian was not providing adequate housing, resulting in the involvement of animal control. At the Shelter, Chapo has been loving playing with toys, lounging on soft bedding and interacting with staff and volunteers. Staff report that he has a bouncy demeanor. He has met some dogs at the Shelter and greets with some eager barking but interested in greeting. Chapo can be rowdy in play and may not be every dog’s cup of tea. Any resident dogs are required to meet prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Chapo with cats or children. Chapo`s adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. Story
HI - I'M OTIS! I'm a sweet and active 5-year-old red-nose male Pit Bull Terrier in need of a foster or forever home. I was given up by my owners (for no fault of my own), and now am looking for new people to love me! I came from a home with another dog. I absolutely love human attention and affection, and would be great for someone who works from home. I can jump pretty high and would make a great agility dog. I love, love, love to cuddle, and will give kisses. I also love to chase tennis balls, and then tear them apart! I would do well with an active person or family with older kids. Can you foster or adopt me? I currently weigh about 53 lbs. Please email for an application.
