Chief is a chubby, “grumpy old man” in the most heartbreaking way. He mostly lays on his blanket, conserving his energy. He gives big, raspy borks sometimes, but it feels more like a warning to the world that he’s tired and unsure. He walks well on leash. He isn’t overly affectionate but he loves food. Treats are his joy. He’ll catch them mid-air with impressive accuracy, and when offered a can of wet food, he allowed full handling without hesitation… then inhaled it like a man who’s learned food isn’t always guaranteed. Chief feels like a dog who is missing his person, the only constant he’s known, even if that life wasn’t perfect. Seniors feel loss deeply and shelters are especially cruel places for them.Chief did not test well with other dogs and may need to be the only pet. When tested, he showed clear discomfort and escalation when another dog got close. He needs a quiet, adult-only home, or a hospice foster, where he can rest, eat well, and feel safe for whatever time he has left. However he was found in 2021 with another dog in a hotel room so there may be potential outside of the shelter environment. What we do know is Chief does not deserve to die scared in a kennel ##2617110##

oki is a handsome, affectionate, and well-mannered 8-year-old dog who is urgently seeking a rescue or dedicated adopter. He loves people, gets along well with friendly female dogs, and plays fetch like a pro. Tennis balls are his favorite! Outside the shelter, Loki walks well on leash, regularly checks in with his handler, and stays calm around passing people and dogs. He still has the stamina for a 4-mile hike but is happily past the challenging adolescent phase. Loki has been placed on medical final due to ongoing allergy-related needs. While in the shelter, he has required regular ear cleanings that must be performed under sedation. Although Loki has never shown aggression toward veterinary staff, he is sensitive to handling and struggles to remain still for ear treatments. He has shown improvement on a poultry-free diet along with prescription allergy medication such as Apoquel or Cytopoint. With consistent diet and medication, his adopter may be able to reduce or even eliminate the need for frequent ear cleanings. Loki has lived in foster homes and does well in a home environment. However, he was returned from one foster placement due to incompatibility with household cats, so a cat-free home is required. Loki would thrive with an active individual or family willing to provide consistency, patience, and ongoing support for his medical care. ##2617118##
