Story
Current Location: Baltimore, MD Meet Slade – a happy, easygoing boy who has quickly settled into foster care. He has a sweet, laid-back personality and is the kind of dog who's happy to be part of whatever you're doing. Slade walks nicely on leash, isn't reactive to people or other dogs, and loves taking his time on a good sniffy adventure. He's friendly with strangers and is happy to say hello while he's out exploring. Slade has a nice medium energy level. A few good walks each day and some time to relax with his people seem to be the perfect combination. Around the house, he keeps everyone smiling with his goofy habit of rolling onto his back and wiggling around whenever the mood strikes. Slade has been a quiet, well-mannered houseguest. Aside from one marking incident when he first arrived, he appears to be house-trained. While he isn't a fan of the crate, he's been doing remarkably well when left loose in a spare bedroom, where he happily snoozes on the bed overnight and while his foster family is gone for the work day. He also gets along well with the resident dog and has an easygoing, respectful approach to canine friends. This handsome guy already knows "sit" and is eager to spend time with his people. If you're looking for a friendly, relaxed companion who enjoys walks, cozy naps, and making you laugh with his silly personality, Slade might just be the perfect addition to your family.

Story
Current Location: Chester, VA Hi there! I'm Tulip! I'm an 8-week-old bundle of happiness with a tail that never seems to stop wagging. Every day is exciting because everything is new, and I can't wait to explore it all. I love playing with toys, making new friends, and giving plenty of puppy kisses. I'm curious, silly, and always ready for my next little adventure. When playtime is over, I'm more than happy to snuggle up and dream about tomorrow's fun. As a young puppy, I'll need a family that's ready to teach me all the important puppy basics, like potty training, crate training, and good manners. I'll bring the enthusiasm if you bring the patience! If you're ready to add a little extra joy, laughter, and unconditional love to your life, I'd love to be your newest family member. I promise to make every day a little brighter!

Story
Current Location: Ijamsville, MD Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Cheese: Professional Cuddler, But Still Learning the Ropes of Dog Life At 6 years and 57 pounds, Cheese is the ultimate "couch hippo"—a master of affection who defines his day by how close he can get to his people. Whether you’re hitting the local farmers market or catching up on your latest Netflix queue, Cheese is your devoted shadow. He is, quite simply, one of the most lovable, happy, and genuinely sweet souls you will ever meet. The "Real Talk" on Cheese Cheese is looking for a family who values him for who he is—quirks and all—and he’s still working on some life skills: The Co-Pilot Requirement: Cheese is a social butterfly who thrives with a wingperson. Because he currently relies on his best friend, Macaroni, to feel completely settled when left alone, he needs a home with a confident, calm canine sibling (a chill male or a submissive female works best). He is currently on anxiety medication, which acts as a helpful "training wheel" while he settles into a new routine. It keeps him cool, calm, and collected, and he’s doing a great job transitioning toward his best self. A Work in Progress: He’s a total food enthusiast, which means he’s still learning that the kitchen counter isn't a buffet. "Personal space" is a concept he’s yet to master (though his preference for napping on top of his person is admittedly hard to argue with). Adventure Manners: He’s a happy traveler, but he’s still practicing his "public decorum." He occasionally forgets his manners when out and about at stores, so a little extra patience and consistency while you're out exploring will go a long way. Why You’ll Want Him on Your Team Despite his quirks, Cheese is a dream companion for the right person: Zero Stranger Danger: He has yet to meet a person—man, woman, or child—that he doesn't immediately love. Eager Student: Because he is so food-motivated, he’s a dream to train—he’ll be learning his new house rules in no time, especially with the six virtual training sessions included with his adoption to help you both hit the ground running. Endless Loyalty: His capacity for love is unmatched. When you adopt Cheese, you aren't just getting a pet; you’re gaining a dedicated, nap-loving, adventure-ready best friend for life. The Perfect Match Cheese is looking for a home that can offer: A Canine Bestie: He needs a home where he isn't the "only child." Macaroni (his current foster sister) would love to stay by his side, but he is happy to bond with any balanced dog. A Patient Guide: An adopter committed to consistent, positive-reinforcement training to help him master his house rules and confidence. Room to Roam: He loves a good walk and would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard. Are you ready to embrace the perfectly imperfect life with Cheese? If you’ve got the heart and the patience to help him finish his training, hit the apply button today! OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Since Cheese is currently thriving with his foster sister, Macaroni, we would love to see them find their forever home together—but his ultimate goal is simply finding a household where he has the doggy companionship he needs to feel secure. Cheese tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Story
Current Location: Littlestown, PA Meet Loren! 💙 At just 6 months old and around 30 pounds, Loren is a beautiful Pittie mix with a stunning gray coat and the most striking eyes you've ever seen. Loren is a little shy when meeting new people and will need a family that understands the importance of slow introductions and giving her time to build trust. We believe she may not have had much human interaction early in life, so patience and kindness will go a long way. Once she starts to feel safe, Loren's sweet personality shines. She absolutely adores belly rubs, enjoys spending time with kids, and loves playing with other dogs. She's the kind of pup who just wants to be loved and included. With a little patience and a lot of love, Loren will blossom into an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion. If you're looking for a gentle soul to grow with your family, Loren may just be your perfect match. My adoption fee is $375. Come meet me soon — I can't wait to show you what a wonderful companion I'll be! 💕

Located in York, PA Meet Fuji: Your New Sunshine-in-Dog-Form! 🌸🐾 If happiness was a dog, she would be named Fuji. With a smile that melts hearts and a wiggle-butt that greets you the second you walk through the door, Fuji is the missing piece of sunshine your home has been waiting for. Why You’ll Love Her: • The Ultimate "Good Houseguest": Fuji is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and a pro at settling down quietly when you're busy. She’s truly a low-maintenance superstar. She does have an affinity for feather pillows though – you’ve been warned. • Social Butterfly: Fuji is a total socialite! She has thrived living with resident dogs and loves being a "shadow" to her canine friends. She is friendly, enthusiastic, and ready to meet any new pack. • Adventure Buddy: Whether it's a long walk or a backyard romp, Fuji has a joyful energy that is contagious. She’s active, loving, and would make the perfect companion for a family with older kids. Her Quirks & Charms: • The "Wiggle-Butt" Greeting: When Fuji is happy to see you, her whole body gets involved. Her tail-whip and happy wiggle are guaranteed to cure any bad mood. • Farm-Animal Approved: We’ve tested her with chickens, and she’s impressively unfazed. She’s happy to just "let them be." • Cat-Curiosity: Fuji is a curious pup! She would love to play with a cat friend, but she’s still learning that not every feline wants to zoom around. She would do best in a home with a confident, dog-savvy cat, or one who doesn't mind a pup who wants to initiate playtime. Who is her perfect match? Fuji is looking for an active home—adults or families with older kids—that can appreciate her zest for life and return all the affection she has to give. If you have another dog who needs a best friend, Fuji is already vetted and ready to be a perfect shadow. All she’s missing is her forever home. Could it be yours? 💛 This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable.
