She said I was extremely skinny and in overall poor condition when I was found. She had me for a couple of weeks and said I was a wonderful girl, but she wasn't allowed to have a dog per her landlord, so once I was in better condition, she brought me into the pound. I am still very scared here, but I am coming around more and more. Once I am in the kennel environment, I am very scared, but when I am in the office, I am more relaxed. When the kind lady had me, I was great with the kids and her cats. She also said I played with the neighbor's dog. When I am at the pound, I am nervous and I act defensive around other dogs, but I seem more at ease around calm dogs. Once I am in a home setting where I can relax, I am going to make someone a really good dog. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. After many phone calls and trying to contact them, the pound has given up hope that our owner will ever come forward and we need to start looking for new families. We are both very sweet and loving dogs with people. We are smart and affectionate. We love going for walks and would make great hiking or jogging companions for someone active. I was taken in by the pound after my owner was incarcerated and left me in his vehicle when he went to jail. I was initially very fearful when I first arrived at the pound, but after just a week or so, I began warming right up to everyone and now I am doing great. It does take me a little while to get used to new people, but once I know you, I am extremely sweet, loving and playful. I have been good around the other dogs that I have met since making my way into the pound. It takes me a little time to completely relax around new dogs, but once we're acquainted, I love to play! I even did well with the 6 month old kitten that is here in the offices, so I would likely do just fine in a home with kitties as well. It does appear that I will need some work on my potty training, but I do try to not have accidents when I am in the office with the girls. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.
