Story
Hello, my name is Diesel! I am a happy go lucky kind of guy. I have live with another dog before, but a meet and greet would be required for any new potential fur sibling. I love toys and will show you anytime I pick out a new one. I love to cuddle and put my tush near you for some good butt scratchies. I love to give kisses and I take treats very politely. Please come meet me today!Heres what the staff have to say about me:`Diesel is a wonderful dog. He is one of our best office mascots! He makes himself right at home and takes his job seriously when it comes to greeting visitors; he goes up to every person, wags his tail, snuggles in, and makes sure they feel special. When we hold staff meetings in the office and he is hanging out, Diesel cracks us up by slowly meandering to every person to say hello, over and over, as if he doesn`t want anyone to feel left out; he makes sure that you feel seen, acknowledged, and that you feel a little ray of his love. He is incredibly affectionate and adores being with someone. He loves to carry around toys and show you which one he has. I don`t know how many times a day I hear staff say, `Diesel! Why has no one adopted you yet?` He truly is the best boy.` If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. The Adoption Fee Includes:- initial canine distemper combination vaccination- first worming or stool check- rabies vaccination (for animals over 3 months of age)- 24 Petwatch microchipping- flea treatment/preventative- spaying or neuteringAdoption fee: $135.00Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2023 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. Hello! My name is Skye! I am a beautiful girl looking for a forever home. I am spunky and sweet, and full of energy. I love going on walks and exploring the world, and I`m learning how to walk nicely at the shelter. My ideal home would be teens and up, no other animals, and someone who understands the importance of a really tasty treat. I like to play with toys and snuggle my favorite people. I like to watch TV and lounge on the couch, so pick out your favorite movie and then pick up your favorite dog....me!What the staff say about me:`Skye is one wiggly, piggly girl. She lights up when she sees her favorite person. She is so snuggly and very affectionate, she really makes you feel loved. She likes to show off her toys or play fetch. She is going to be someone`s best friend for sure!`If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Aye, I am a good lad, I`m sure I`d fit right in. Story
Hello, my name is Leo! I am looking for my new forever family to give all my love to. I can be a little nervous when first meeting new people, but once I get to know you we will be best friends. I`m looking for a family who is going to invest time with me. I already know lots of things and it`s evident that somebody had previously spent time working with me. I would do best in a family who is willing to keep this bond and connection going through training. Think of training like my love language. When you ask me to sit and give me a reward it shows me that we both speak the same language! My new home situation should be adult humans only and I should be the only pet. Come meet me today!*** I am currently in a foster home. Please call to schedule an appointment to meet me***Here is what shelter staff say about me:`Leo is too funny. He is very goofy and very loving. He has a shelter mama here who he adores, but honestly, all the dog team members are his family. He loves seeing them and spending time with them. He LOVES his crate! I`ve never had a dog bulldoze me out of the way to get into his crate for the first time; we had no idea he had used one before and it brings him so much comfort. He likes to carry his favorite stuffy toys into the crate and sleep with them. Leo reminds me of a kid sometimes, in ways like that. He wants to play, be silly, play in the sun, cuddle his stuffed animals, all that good stuff. He also reminds me of a kid who just wants their mom when everything feels wrong; he drools a lot out of stress, has anxiety in the kennel, but once he is with one of his family members here, it all melts away. I know I`ve seen somewhere there`s a word for missing someone you`ve never met...that`s Leo. Missing the piece of him he`s never met. Maybe there`s someone out there who knows how he feels, and I hope they come in to meet him. If Leo is your missing piece...you are missing so much.`If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Story
Hello, I`m Ozzie! I am a fantastic zoomer; I zoom through the grass yards, zoom around our halls, and zoom right into your heart. I am quite cute of course; who couldn`t love this happy face? I am silly, oh so goofy, always ready to make you laugh and cheer you up. Everyone has a bad day now and again, so I try hard to remind them that there`s always something to smile about...me! I`m a pretty positive guy. I like to look at the world as a treat box half full. Every day I wake up and grin; it`s a beautiful day, I have people who give nice pats and sweet kisses, and a bowl of food in my belly. I try to be pawsitive all the time, but I also dream of what it would be like to be chosen by a family. I have lots of energy and a great brain; the staff love teaching me new things; I know sit, I am crate trained, and I even sit and wait for my food! I don`t really like playing with other dogs, but I adore every moment with my favorite human. I am very smart and enjoy learning new things. I am crate trained and like savoring a tasty kong when relaxing by myself. Life can be up and down, have lots of sits and stays, but it is so much better when you go through it with someone. Come meet me today and let`s wake up tomorrow and take on the world together! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Hi, I`m Cheerio! I had kind of an unfair beginning here at the shelter; my owner tried to abandon me. The staff don`t know why and neither do I! I am really affectionate and goofy. I love to play and go on adventures. I am a big dude and I`m learning to walk nicely on leash, but a harness seems to help me a lot. I am a little unsure of kids, so I think teens and up would be best for me. I have met dogs here and do have a few friends that I play with in the yards. I do not like cats! But I do like snuggles. Come meet me today and help me find a happily ever after. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Buttercup, 2yr old, spayed female, pitbull mix, 51 pounds. Buttercup resides in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Buttercup was saved from the county shelter and was housed with another dog, and went into a foster home with other pups. She was able to do integrate well but, because of her hearing impairment, she gets startled easily and becomes very defensive when surprised. It is not that she cannot be around other dogs but she needs time to feel comfortable and secure before letting her guard down. To alleviate this, we have found putting up a fence/x-pen and allowing her to see/"meet" the dogs before being let loose with them works best for Buttercup. Buttercup has learned some basic obedience using hand signals and tactile marks, and has learned to connect seeing other dogs with a long tap on her right shoulder. Her ideal home would be one who sees her hearing challenges as an opportunity to connect on a deeper level with her and will take the time to train Buttercup, whether on their own or through professional courses. Buttercup is very human friendly and affectionate. She's a gentle lovebug working to navigate her way through this world with the guidance of her human. She would do best with kids 10 years or older due to her size and hearing issues, which may result in her being startled by young kids. Buttercup is a solid 4/10 level dog - she can be playful and excited but her default is to sit back and watch, assess. She is well mannered and doesn't beg, and is overall easy to handle on the leash, with minimal reactivity on walks. She is fully house and crate trained, and enjoys snoozing in bed or riding in a car for adventures. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Lunesta, 6 years old, spayed female, pit bull mix, 55lbs. Lunesta is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Lulu is a sweet, medium energy kind of gal who loves to play. She is in a foster home with a resident pit bull and a shih tzu, and tries engaging them in play. She would love to have a home with a canine companion to play with her. The resident shih tzu will get barky and nippy at Lulu, and she walks away, ignoring him entirely. Lulu doesn't have much body awareness and will body check the other dogs when playing or when treats come out. She pushes and shoves to the front of the line for a treat, to get the toy or to be the first one out the door. She can also be quite clumsy, sometimes running into the doors or walls because she is so focused on looking back at you. Lulu loves to play but also loves to snuggle up and rest with you, or on her own in the crate or on the couch. She is a sweet cuddle bear and enjoys following you around the house ensuring you are never alone nor under attack from an unseen foe. Going to the kitchen? Lulu's coming too. Need to use the restroom? Good idea, she should join you. Headed outside for some vitamin D? Perfect, that is just what she wanted to do also! Not even joking, Lulu really does love the sun and baking as long as you will let her. Lulu is a toy hoarder. She will sneak and steal the toys from her siblings but is not aggressive of them. As a general rule of the foster, all dogs are fed separately to ensure they eat their own meals but not because anyone resource guards their food. We have no history with cats but when walking her and she sees one, she wants to charge at it. She has been around children ages 10 and up without issue, and we have no reason to think she couldn't be around very young kids as she's not super jumpy or energetic. Typically recommend a home with kids over the age of 10 years, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. Lulu does need to work on her leash manners as she is all over the place and pulls with the typical pittie energy. A harness or Gentle Leader head collar may yield the best results but Lulu's foster has been working patiently with her on this training. Lulu is nearly fully housetrained but will "go" if it has been too long between her potty breaks. She does not have any accidents overnight in her kennel. Lunesta is crate trained and does very well, sleeping and taking her meals in the kennel, as well as being put up when unable to be supervised. She would do best in a home willing to help her reinforce the basic manners she already has, ensuring a good solid connection through training and structure. She would enjoy a moderately active house with some walks and fetch opportunities, lots of snuggles and cuddles, and possibly another doggy sibling or two. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Max, 1.5 years old, neutered male, Pitbull mix, 53 pounds. He is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Max was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Houston. He had this really long tail that did not fit his body and was causing "happy tail." This basically means in all of his excitement his tail would hit anything in site causing it to bleed. The tail is never able to heal and after consulting with a vet we had part of his tail amputated. He has recovered well, but his hair is still growing back on that area. Max spent some recovery time in a boarding facility where he ran his heart out with other dogs. He met allll kinds of dogs- big and little, male and female. He loves to play and run around. There is another dog in the foster home. She tends to be really forward with new dogs and this has made Max a little scared. He does great on walks with her, but in the house he tends to keep his distance. We think he would love another dog to match his personality or would also be okay as the only dog too. As you can imagine, given his younger age he is an energetic guy. He is looking for a home with moderate physical outlets. He enjoys his walks and playtime with his foster parents. He is friendly when passing other dogs on leash. He has come across cats out walking and appears curious. He has not lunged or tried to run after them, but we can't speak to how he would do in a home setting. We have no history with kids and recommend a home with kids 10 years and older. Max walks okay on leash and will pull when he wants to sniff things. He is housebroken and does well when crated. He is a curious and playful dog. He can get a little scared of loud noises or sudden movements. He loves to play fetch and chew on stuffed toys. He rides well in the car, is generally a happy guy always wagging his now nub and excited to see his people. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
