Story
What a face! Humphrey is a big doofus. When he arrived he weighed 14 lbs. He was living in a crate and being starved to death. But with the right vet care and foster he is now 40 lbs and loving life. He still wants to eat too fast so he uses a special bowl to slow him down. Humphrey is still learning he can go outside to potty and he doesn't have to do his business in his crate. At some point his ears were cut off, probably with scissors, but that doesn't seem to bother him. And it just gives him a special look, along with his squatty muscular body. He needs a strong person to help him keep learning life can be good. He can be reactive with some dogs. No idea about cats but probably should not live with them. He does think he should be a lap dog and loves belly rubs. I am in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process.  Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.  September 8, 2024, 7:09 pm

Story
Here is SheRa, a land seal in disguise, patiently waiting for a loving family to whisk her away to their forever home (or beach)! SheRa is perfect! She loves walking the kids to the bus and is so excited when they get home. She adores kids and time on the couch in a pile of blankets next to her human. She is quite the character and will make some family very, very happy. Her foster family adores her! SheRa can be dog selective with some dogs but gets along great with big dopey boys her age. Slow introductions and meet & greets with resident dogs will be required prior to adoption. Check out the picture of SheRa with adopted Rico dog Harvey SheRa has been around cats and rabbits and is fine with both. She is house-trained and crate-trained and LOVES soft, squeaky toys! The three things that make her happiest are:1 being talked to2making eye contact3 literally any touch! Her foster says, In the middle of the night I just put my hand on her head and her tail starts thumping! And adds:She really is a GREAT dog and we love her so much and honestly this is the most torn up we've ever been about possibly foster failing but unfortunately we just can't keep her but obviously will keep on loving her until her forever family finds her!She is approximately 5 years old and is now a happy, healthy girl. Please consider giving SheRa the loving home she deserves. Despite her awful past, she now lives to LOVE and as a result is just lovely! You can scroll through the pictures below to see the start of her journey with us Apply to adopt or foster-to-adopt at ricopetrecovery.org!

Story
Shiloh is an almost 3-year old mix of pit bull, Australian cattle dog, German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. As a puppy, he was abandoned with his siblings in a park and was adopted through Rico Pet Recovery. Through no fault of his own, Shiloh is now looking for a new home.He weighs 48 pounds, is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines, house trained and leash-trained. He knows several commands and his current owner describes him as a sweet dog who likes to cuddle.Shiloh is a high-energy dog and would do best in a home with active adults who have time to work with him. He hasn't had exposure to children and would probably do best with no kids or ones that are older. He is very comfortable with women, and although he is afraid of men, he warms up quickly to them in the home. When out on a leash, Shiloh will 'yell' at men. He likes to protect his territory from other dogs and doesn't care for dogs approaching the fence. No cats, please.Shiloh's adoption fee is $250. You can apply for him at ricopetrecovery.org.

Story
Penny has really settled in.Her playful side is showing more and more especially since introducing her to foster brother, Max. He was a bit reserved at firsthe lets her know when its enough and she responds well. Ultimately theyve claimed a couch as their own, napping on opposite ends together. She also has embraced a little more independence. Her foster mom can actually go into another room without her worrying or crying. This doesnt mean she still isnt the biggest cuddle bug!! Whats personal space?!?!Her coat is becoming softer and the bare spots continue to fill in. Her tail is slowly healing and hasnt bleed in more than a week!We continue to work on her training and shes responding positively. She really is a sweet girlYou can apply to meet Penelope at ricopetrecovery.orgAdoption fee is $250

Story
Bixby is a sweet dog that I adopted from a shelter several years ago. He is approximately 5 years old and around 65 lbs. I am not able to care for Bixby and exercise him the way he needs on walks. His main behavior issue is pulling on walks and lunging- although he is generally friendly with other dogs. I don't have the right home for a large dog and physically can not handle him. I’m looking to rehome asap.

Story
Trixx came from a rural shelter with little chance of finding a home. She is a young girl with lots of love to give. She likes to go on walks, loves her chew toys, is housebroken and crate trained. She is 1 year old and full grown at 35 pounds. She is in foster with cats and when they swat her she knows to leave them alone. She likes to play with the big dogs but plays a bit too rough for smaller dogs or timid cats.
