Story
ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)     We are excited to introduce our newest addition, 1-year-old 55-pound Helios, a tripod dog from Albania, who will be arriving in November. This lovable good boy is potty trained and excels at going outside. Despite his physical limitation, Helios possesses boundless energy. His past has been marked by adversity, having been found with a severely damaged back leg, likely sustained in a car accident. However, thanks to timely surgery and abundant love, Helios has overcome his challenges and is now thriving, strong, happy, and full of life. Helios's indomitable spirit shines through as he runs, plays, and revels in life. He's playful, gentle, and resilient, with a heart full of love. Whether chasing a ball or snuggling, Helios makes a wonderful companion. He interacts well with other dogs, loves humans of all ages, and is calm, cuddly, and well-behaved. Helios is searching for a family who will look beyond his physical limitations and appreciate his extraordinary spirit. He epitomizes the idea that strength, spirit, and kindness can manifest in diverse ways. Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there)Twitter: zanisff Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application  Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.   Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!                If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Story
Meet Buckley — a big, happy bundle of love wrapped in a soft, sandy coat! At just 11 months old and already around 60 pounds (with a little more growing to do), Buckley may be an Anatolian Shepherd mix, and he’s every bit as fun and lively as a young pup should be. He’s bursting with energy and always ready to join in on whatever adventure you have planned. Buckley is a social butterfly who adores people and thrives on attention and affection. While toys don’t impress him much, treats certainly do — and his treat motivation makes him eager to learn and build a bond with his future family. If you’re looking for an affectionate, energetic companion who will happily be your sidekick through all of life’s adventures, Buckley is ready and waiting to meet you. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Story
To my future owner, My name is Boone and I am a two year old neutered Asian shepherd mix. I have been living with my family since I was a little puppy. I love them so much, but sometimes I get very protective over my human children with their friends. This makes my Mom and Dad nervous, and they have decided to re-home me. I am going to be super sad without them and I am a really good dog and wish I could stay. I am completely house-trained so I don’t need to be in a crate. I am pretty lazy and I love being a couch potato and going to bed early. My favorite place is the beach and going on car rides.  I will make a great hiking buddy and love playing with other dogs.   I get scared of loud noises like thunder and fireworks, and that crazy vacuum creature. I am a little bit of a baby when it comes to going out in the rain and taking baths, so not so thrilled about water.   Please give me a chance and I’m sure you’ll love me as much as I will love you.

Story
Balto is a handsome Shepherd/Anatolian mix currently settling into life in a foster home, where he’s starting to feel more at ease. While he’s still on the shy side, he’s made great progress and is showing more of his sweet personality every day. Once he warms up, Balto is incredibly loving, affectionate, and downright adorable. He can be cautious when meeting new people or adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings, so he’ll do best in a calm, patient home where he can build trust at his own pace. He absolutely loves going for walks, and that outdoor time helps bring out his confidence. Balto gets along well with other dogs, but he’s not a fan of cats. Because he can be sensitive to new environments and loud activity, we recommend a calm home with older children (8+). Balto is looking for someone who will meet him where he’s at—someone who understands that trust takes time, but that it’s worth every moment. Balto came to ARF with the support of the Irving and Phyllis Millstein Foundation.
