ABOUT MINOS This big boy is a 4-year-old shepherd mix, weighing roughly 90 lbs. Minos came to HAP from San Antonio, Texas, following the devastating floods. While we aren't too sure of his past, Minos is definitely a more lowkey pup. He has a quiet confidence and a strong sense of independence. He enjoys doing his own thing and prefers to take his time when getting to know new people. Once he gets to know you and feels comfortable, Minos shows his affectionate side. He would thrive in a home that respects his need for personal space and understands that not every dog wants constant attention. Minos enjoys calm walks, lounging in cozy spots, and observing the world around him. He’s the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a more low-key, respectful relationship with their dog. If you're looking for a loyal companion who values independence just like you do, Minos might be your perfect match! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Rex is looking for a special home. He is part of a group of dogs all coming from the same home where they all lived outside and where very under socialized. We also now know there were occasional fights for food so we are listing him as no other dogs so he can live competition free. He is truly a gentle giant. He is a fish out of water here in the shelter. Everyone is showing him love and attention, but he isn`t sure what to make of that. He is definitely enjoying it. HIs future adopter has to keep all of this in mind and show Rex how great life can truly be. Things another dog finds normal are all strange to Rex. He has learned to walk nicely on leash but must be double leashed just in case something startles him. Staff would be happy to advise his potential adopter on tips and tricks to help Rex adjust to his new lifestyle.

This handsome boy was picked up running at large and based on Facebook posts it was about his third or fourth offense, but no one claimed him. We are guessing that he was a failure at being a livestock guardian because he’s way too social. He’s always wanting to visit someone new. Charlie is a little over a year old and weighs 110 lbs. He was very thin when he first came to us but is now at his perfect weight. He is neutered, up-to-date on required vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He’s house trained and he loves other dogs, but he is a big guy. He also will require a tall fence and you will have to keep an eye on him because again he likes to visit new people. He’s affectionate and likes to lean on you. He is learning commands like sit and stay and he really tries to please! This is what his foster mom says about him " Charlie is amazing. He is housebroken, loves to be hugged, hasn’t chewed anything up, likes to play but is content just to chill. He walks beautifully on a leash and likes to say hi to everyone he meets. Charlie enjoys sitting and looking out the window, hanging around in the kitchen especially when I’m cooking and going for car rides. Although this breed is known for having a stubborn streak, Charlie seems to understand a few commands wait, it’s ok, no, come, let’s go and he will even sit for a treat. But his favorite is Good Boy Charlie❤️" This guy would be a great dog for an active loving family. He’s so sweet! Bingo is a very special man that came to us through Angel’s Retreat’s “ACCTs of Love” program due to needing advanced care as he was suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Bingo originally came to the other shelter as a stray found in a mobile home park with a gunshot to the top of his nose cavity. When Bingo was found, despite the massive amount of pain he was in, they reported him to still greet the strangers that found him with tail wags, and looking to be petted 🥹 Bingo’s wound was caused from a bullet going through his skull, through the roof of his mouth, through his tongue, and then getting lodged in his neck. Amazingly, the bullet missed all his airways and vital organs! He needed time to heal but recovered beautifully and is ready to find his happy ever after! 🫶🏼 Bingo has done wonderful learning these skills, house, manners, doggy manners, and how to be the all-around great boy. He is a quick learner, and the biggest lover you could imagine. He wants nothing more than a person to give all his love to! Could you be that person?
