You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hey all, I'm Sheila, a 60# gal 3 years old thought to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix of something! Left at my disabled 'Grandma's House' by owners, Grandma had no way to care for me correctly. After a few months of trying, she turned me into a shelter in WV. Unfortunately Grandma didn't know it was a High Kill Shelter. YIKES! Double YIKES!! Fortunately, word went out far and wide, SAVE SHEILA, SAVE SHEILA! Cries were heard and I'm now in a loving foster home in Dillsburg. Got other doggie friends here to show me the ropes and I'm doing fine per foster mom/dad. I did get my Christmas wish and was adopted, but sadly, I was returned ON CHRISTMAS! Not the gift I was looking for. The family, though nice, didn't know their abilities to walk a gal with energy. Yes, I admit I need walking skills yet, but foster mom, though old and gray, is able to walk me NO ISSUES. Guess we all are different. So, here's my story, Sad to be returned but that perfect family is out there! Good with other dogs, people, children (not toddlers) I do admit my 'Zest for Life' does get the better of me with excitement with life it's self! Smart as a whip already knowing sit, down, give both paws, am crate trained & house trained, I do have a little stubborn streak thrown in for good measures! Now learning Patients, Sit and Wait at door and to eat. I do pull on a leash, but can learn or use of a Halti would stop that no problem. NO Way am I going to be protective. So far I've shown only friendliness, kiss giving and a 'Lets Party Attitude' to new people. My recall has improved but a Physical Fence/Underground Fence would be best for me. Meet Gus, an XL, handsome Anatolian Shepherd estimated to be around 5 years old. Gus came to us from local animal control and has proven himself to be an absolute gem. He’s tall, about 85 lbs, and arrived underweight, so he’ll need a home committed to helping him continue to fill out and thrive. Gus is the definition of a gentle giant. He is wonderful with other dogs and truly exceptional with cats. He reads their cues perfectly—if they want space, he gives it; if they want to cuddle or play, he is gentle and patient. He has not been around children while in our care, but due to his size and strength, he would do best with older, sturdier kids who won’t be easily knocked over by an enthusiastic greeting or a happy tail swipe. This big guy has so many wonderful qualities. He’s great in the car and simply lays down in the backseat. He’s crate comfortable, fully potty trained, knows sit and shake, and is incredibly smart. He recently had his enormous dew claws removed and handled it all like a champ. Gus also loves to play fetch and absolutely enjoys cuddle time. His foster says he is “literally the perfect dog” with zero complaints. As an Anatolian Shepherd, Gus is very true to his breed. It’s important for adopters to research the breed and be prepared for the commitment, lifestyle, and responsibility that comes with owning a livestock guardian–type dog. Gus is amazing, but like all dogs of his breed, he needs the right home that understands and appreciates who he is. Clyde was found on a desolate mountain road, in rural central Pa, in February 2025. We took him in thinking it would be temporary and the dog warden would help us find him a home. She just basically ghosted us after that. He is a big fluffy, kissy boy who wants love and pets, and of course treats. He gets along great with our smaller dogs but he and our male Staffy HATE each other and we've had several fights. Our female pit is very reactive to those fights and goes after our smaller dogs just because she gets so worked up. Clyde has also tried to eat our chickens, and attack one of our goats. We've been able to make it sort of work with rotating crate times, but that no longer works for our situation. We don't want to take him to a shelter or have him put down, because he really is a good dog. Unfortunately the hate between he and our Staffy presents a danger to us and our other pets. He is neutered but not chipped, and we will have his vax caught up soon.
