This handsome boy was picked up running at large and based on Facebook posts it was about his third or fourth offense, but no one claimed him. We are guessing that he was a failure at being a livestock guardian because he’s way too social. He’s always wanting to visit someone new. Charlie is a little over a year old and weighs 110 lbs. He was very thin when he first came to us but is now at his perfect weight. He is neutered, up-to-date on required vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He’s house trained and he loves other dogs, but he is a big guy. He also will require a tall fence and you will have to keep an eye on him because again he likes to visit new people. He’s affectionate and likes to lean on you. He is learning commands like sit and stay and he really tries to please! This is what his foster mom says about him " Charlie is amazing. He is housebroken, loves to be hugged, hasn’t chewed anything up, likes to play but is content just to chill. He walks beautifully on a leash and likes to say hi to everyone he meets. Charlie enjoys sitting and looking out the window, hanging around in the kitchen especially when I’m cooking and going for car rides. Although this breed is known for having a stubborn streak, Charlie seems to understand a few commands wait, it’s ok, no, come, let’s go and he will even sit for a treat. But his favorite is Good Boy Charlie❤️" This guy would be a great dog for an active loving family. He’s so sweet! Left at my disabled 'Grandma's House' by owners, Grandma had no way to care for me correctly. After a few months of trying, she turned me into a shelter in WV. Unfortunately Grandma didn't know it was a High Kill Shelter. YIKES! Double YIKES!! Fortunately, word went out far and wide, SAVE SHEILA, SAVE SHEILA! Cries were heard and I'm now in a loving foster home in Dillsburg. Got other doggie friends here to show me the ropes and I'm doing fine per foster mom/dad. I did get my Christmas wish and was adopted, but sadly, I was returned ON CHRISTMAS! Not the gift I was looking for. The family, though nice, didn't know their abilities to walk a gal with energy. Yes, I admit I need walking skills yet, but foster mom, though old and gray, is able to walk me NO ISSUES. Guess we all are different. So, here's my story, Sad to be returned but that perfect family is out there! Good with other dogs, people, children (not toddlers) I do admit my 'Zest for Life' does get the better of me with excitement with life it's self! Smart as a whip already knowing sit, down, give both paws, am crate trained & house trained, I do have a little stubborn streak thrown in for good measures! Now learning Patients, Sit and Wait at door and to eat. I do pull on a leash, but can learn or use of a Halti would stop that no problem. NO Way am I going to be protective. So far I've shown only friendliness, kiss giving and a 'Lets Party Attitude' to new people. My recall has improved but a Physical Fence/Underground Fence would be best for me. Duke and Lulu are a bonded pair who came into rescue following the death of their owner and loss of their home. As expected after all the changes in their environment and family dynamic the past six months, they seek lots of attention. Both are affectionate, playful and eager to please and would do well in a structured environment with humans who can give them the time and attention they need. Duke seems to be the strong silent type – sitting back observing and taking his cues from Lulu. He warms up right away, while she needs a little time to get comfortable with new people. Both travel in the car extremely well, are crate trained, and have lived peacefully with several inside/outside cats. Their roommates/caretakers report they have high prey drive and do not like Chihuahuas. As far as exposure to children, they have only encountered a 12YO nephew a few times. They both listen considerably well,but could use general manners reinforcement and leash work. Oakley came into rescue through a veterinary office. He was a under weight, neutered 5 1/2 yrs old who needed time to decompress. He is unknown to young children. However, he is good with children 11 years and up. He is having a great time playing with his new dog friend in his foster home. He has a big appetite, eats 3 times a day, and is one of the sweetest Danes you'll ever meet. He does have Addisons disease but this can be helped with a bit of prednisone. He also has pancreatic insufficiency, an enlarged heart, and Giardia but we are continuing to obtain medical services for him. He is not aware of his size so he will need direction when playing too rough. He will have a training contract as he loves to go for walks. However, if given enough lead he will pull you over. He is unknown with cats. If you're interested in a sweet Dane who loves walks and is a joy to be around, Oakley is your boy!
