Story
**THEO FINDS HIS HAPPY.** ***2/4/2024 - Adoption Pending!*** Theo has had a rough life up until now. And he’s 5 years old! He was a very sad and unsure dog when he boarded the transport for Idaho a couple of weeks ago. We know he had at least two owners before coming into rescue and we get the feeling neither of them appreciated Theo for the good dog he is. We believe Theo is an Australian cattle dog x border collie mix. He weighs about 35 pounds and is a beautiful, deep mahogany color. He has been thriving in foster care! He's done a complete 180 and now smiles and is showing us what a sweet, intelligent dog he is. So far Theo appears to be housetrained and he is now crate trained. He rides well in the car and in his crate. Theo is mostly neutral with cats and is currently living with two. He’s been good with other dogs, but sometimes if things get too wild, he might become the Fun Police. We feel he would do great as an active companion or casual sport dog. He has the drive to potentially enjoy agility, rally, scentwork or trick training, but he’s not over the top or difficult to live with. We get the feeling someone has manhandled Theo by the collar in the past creating some negative associations around handling. For this reason we are seeking a home for him with no small children. As long as we go slowly and communicate what we’re asking for he’s very cooperative! Theo has good food drive and loves working and training for treats. He’s a very smart boy and as long as you make things into a bit of a game he’s very enthusiastic to play along. We would be happy to share his training videos with his adopter to show what he has been up to while in foster care. Theo has had a dental and had to have a couple of teeth removed, but should be good to go now with his pearly white teeth. Theo’s adoption fee is $325. He’s neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. If you are interested in possibly adopting Theo, please complete an adoption application located here: https://idawg.org/application.html

Story
Bethany is a great dog. Very smart maybe to smart. She is house trained and knows to be taken out to use the restroom if in an apartment, also knows to go outside through the doggy door if a yard is available . She needs more exposure with other dogs but is great with humans. Is a great cuddle buddy. She can be a pain in getting into the trash but I just don’t have time to train her properly. She knows how to sit and shake hands and can be walked without a lease she will not run away but if she sees another dog she goes straight after them. Over all very sweet and smart dog just needs the proper person that has time to give her

Story
Meet Sailor! Sailor is a male, 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix. He weighs 58 pounds.Sailor arrived at the shelter as a stray. When he first came in, he was very scared and unsure of everything going on. As time went on and staff worked with him (and fed him lots of treats), he was able to gain confidence and he has warmed up immensely! He still needs a moment to open up to new people, but who can blame him? Once he gets to know you, he is incredibly sweet and wants to stay by your side. He still has some learning to do about being a dog in this big world, but he cannot wait to start that adventure with you! Sailor will need an indoor home and a secure containment area to stay safe from wandering and escaping. Positive reinforcement, fear-free training will be needed. Daily exercise and mental enrichment will be very important. If you have other dogs in your home, we would be happy to arrange a meet and greet with your dog(s) to make sure everyone gets along. We do not know how he will do with cats.Sailor is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and ready to go home today. The shelter is currently open by appointment only. Fill out an application to schedule an appointment today!

Story
Rylee is an active girl that needs an adult only home. She will need some training to help in her transition to a new home and we are willing to give that at no cost within 30miles from our rescue location. Rylee is a very loving dog, she does not have that herding instinct so she will do fine in any living environment, with the right engagement like a walk a couple dogs a week and some playtime on occasion. Rylee is looking for a 1 dog home with no cats. The excitement of kids makes her nervous so the ideal home will be an adult only home with only an occasional visit of kids. Feel free to contact is with any questions. 208-509-7245

Story
Ginger is a sweet girl who is 8 months old as of beginning of March ‘24. Ginger is visually impaired but that doesn’t stop her at all. Ginger understands "sit" well and is patient when waiting for her food. We're working on "come" and she's picking up on it faster than Nala, her foster sister. She can't follow the ball when playing fetch so she lets Nala get it, sort of hides halfway and pounces on Nala to get involved. She's getting more snuggly, not a real big cuddler yet, but at least when she's tired she'll do a little leaning in. Still seems to be doing well with what vision she has and really only seems to have issues outside on sunny day; she does well indoors and on cloudy days with things within a few feet. She's even started running and jumping a bit, she hadn't done that before. Ginger does well on leash and is crate and potty trained. She also does well off leash for about a mile as long as you have music playing on your phone so she can follow the music. Ginger would do best in a home with other dogs for her to play with. She is great with kids, cats, and dogs. She rides well in a car and loves to meet new people. Ginger probably has some Australian cattle dog (heeler) in her. If you are interested in adopting Ginger please fill out a pre adoption application. Https://linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue

Story
If you're looking for a well-rounded companion, look no further than Alfie! He's just as content curling up next to you (or on your lap) while watching a movie as he is playing tug-o-war. He enjoys being outside and smelling new things on his walks. He is completely unfazed by squirrels, great on a slip leash, and would make a great running buddy! Alfie is always down for a road trip and recently had a blast at the beach with his foster mom! He loads up easily to "get up or "up and knows other basic commands. He's house trained and sleeps in a kennel if needed. His best friend is his foster brother, Oliver, who is a 4 year old, 70 lb Catahoula mix. Alfie tends to get along best with younger dogs that are submissive and playful like Oliver. We suggest a meet n greet with resident dogs. He has been great with children (5+) who have come up to pet him, gently licking their faces. Alfie seems to be under the impression that he's supposed to catch a ball with his paws instead of his mouth. He hasn't quite mastered that method, so he just ends up losing track of the ball and making everyone laugh at his goofy quirk. He also loves to be petted and will nudge you if you stop, indicating that you're not done petting him just yet! The ideal home for Alfie would be a house with a fenced yard. He loves being in the same room as his human(s). He's currently left inside for 6-8 hours a day, sleeping by the door or on the couch until his foster gets home. He gets excited to go to sleep in his kennel at night. Alfie doesn't know he's 50lbs, as that doesn't stop him from wanting to be held or cradled like a baby. His foster mom says he is the sweetest boy whose big brown eyes tell you that he just wants to be included in the family, knowing he'll never be left on his own again. All our dogs come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. This benefit includes free access to Petcademy's team of trainers/behaviorists, as well as access to online materials that will help you settle your new family member into your home. You can text unlimited questions to Petcademy and they'll respond within 24 hours (Monday-Friday). We only adopt in the USA. We are open to adopting in other states, except in Massachusetts. There are quarantine laws for MA and until these laws change, we are not able to adopt into MA.

Story
Meet Arnie! A charming 4-5 month old shepherd mix, Arnie is a bundle of boundless energy and affection waiting to grace your home with his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. Arnie is the true definition of a "people-pleaser - he loves to be near to his humans! He can't wait to see his people, and lives for pets and words of praise! One of Arnie's most endearing qualities is his love for people, and he has been sweet and gentle with the children that he has met. His tail never stops wagging when he's around them, and his playful antics bring smiles to faces of all ages. He loves to toss himself on his back and beg for tummy scratches. Arnie sleeps at night in a pen, and he does well at night, sleeping quietly with night-time accidents few and far between. He spends around 4-6 hours a day alone with his foster brother and keeps himself entertained when alone for long periods of time. Arnie likes climbing into the baby pool full of water for a dip when its warm outside! But Arnie's affection isn't limited to just people-he's a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs too. His friendly disposition and easygoing nature have endeared him to his foster brothers and sister. He is very deferential around other dogs, definitely not striving to be the alpha, and loves to play tug-of-war with his foster brother Grover. Arnie's intelligence shines through in his eagerness to learn and please. He's a quick study when it comes to commands and behaviors. Whether it's mastering a new trick or simply responding to his name, Arnie is always eager to show off his smarts. Arnie is more than ready to embark on the next chapter of his journey-a journey that he hopes will lead him straight into the loving arms of his forever family!

Story
Blaze and Ruby are 5 year old pure bred (not papered) mini Aussies. They are both super sweet and love everyone. Ruby is more excitable, while Blaze is a super soft boy when he's coming to cuddle. They know commands and have been professionally trained but could use some brushing up on listening when distracted. These two are bonded littermates, so we'd prefer to rehome them together. We are looking to rehome them to give time a better life. We do not not have the time or space they deserve. Would love to find someone with acreage and the time and people to give them love and attention. They will be hard to rehome, but we think it's best for them.
