Story
Meet Wheezy! A loving approximately three-and-a-half-year-old mixed-breed sweetheart currently living in Centreville, VA, whose heart is as big as her personality! With her snowy white coat, golden patches, and mesmerizing icy blue eyes, she’s as striking as she is affectionate. Wheezy is a devoted, cuddly, and playful companion who’s happiest when she’s by your side—whether that’s snuggled up on the couch or engaged in a spirited play session in the backyard! Her name isn’t just cute—it’s a perfect fit! When she’s soaking up attention from her favorite people, she lets out little “wheezes” and “oinks” of pure contentment, like a tiny, happy piglet. And when it comes to playtime, Wheezy has a signature move: enthusiastic roughhousing! She loves an energetic romp with her family but always keeps things gentle, instantly switching back to cuddle mode the moment you tell her it’s time to settle. Wheezy is a very intelligent girl who thrives on structure and positive reinforcement. She’s fully house-trained, knows several commands—including "sit," "shake," "place," "free," and "wait"—and picks up new skills quickly. She even has a special command, “place,” which helps her stay calm when guests visit. A quiet home without other animals or young children would be the perfect match for her, as she prefers to be the center of attention and isn’t comfortable around other pets. Wheezy is reactive toward other dogs and has shown aggression toward them. In the past, she has bitten another dog in the home, which is why she would do best as the only pet. Despite dedicated training and behavior management, she remains uncomfortable around other animals and needs a pet-free environment where she can relax and be her best self. She currently takes Venlafaxine to help manage stress and reactivity, which has been beneficial, and she follows a special diet to prevent food allergies. Continuing this routine will help her stay happy and healthy. She’s also not a fan of vet visits, but with a bit of preparation (and some pre-visit sedation medication), she handles them like a champ! If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and delightfully quirky best friend, Wheezy is ready to be your constant companion! Are you the loving, pet-free home she needs to truly shine? If so, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com—she can’t wait to meet you!

Story
Looking to rehome our 5 year old Blue Heeler, Tucker is a 5 year old male that has been neutered. This wasn’t an easy decision for us to make, we’re going to miss him terribly. Tucker needs to be in a home where his new owners understand his breed, he needs to be worked not only physically, but mentally too. He would be better in a home where he is the only dog, he will assert his dominance over a frisbee. I wouldn’t recommend him being with young children, he would do better with an older kid. He’s been attached to my hip since day one, will love you hard and protect you. We’ve had a couple incidents where another dog has come onto our property and it has caused a fight, not only with those dogs but ours as well. I truly think he prefers people over another dog being around, he has never been aggressive towards people. He loves women (smart boy) and he’s skeptical of men, but comes around once he’s warmed up. He truly is an amazing dog, he’s very smart and such a love bug

Story
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxQD-9Bt1kw John Connor has been with the rescue since last summer since he and his mom were dumped in the country. He is about 18 months old now and I don't understand why he hasn't been adopted. He is adorable, he only weighs about 40 lbs, he is great with other dogs, people, and cats. Perfect little dude. He loves to run and play and splish splash in the water. He would make a great companion for an active individual or a family that enjoys outdoor adventures or spending lots of time in the backyard. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) -- Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Story
Meet Anari, a delightful Australian Cattle Dog in search of a loving forever home. At 6 years old, Anari has already experienced some of life's challenges, but with the right environment and patient care, he has the potential to be a devoted companion. Anari gets along well with other dogs, making him an excellent choice for families or individuals who already have furry friends at home. He understands the dynamics of canine socialization and is likely to thrive in a household where he can engage in play and companionship with other dogs. Due to his past experiences, Anari tends to be a bit shy and cautious when encountering new people or situations. It is important to provide him with a calm and secure environment, allowing him the time and space to adjust at his own pace. With patience and understanding, you will witness his true personality shine as he gradually comes out of his shell. When initially meeting new people, Anari may exhibit protective behavior by barking, almost like a guard dog. This is his way of expressing caution and fear, which can be mitigated through positive reinforcement and gentle handling. As he gains trust and becomes more familiar with his surroundings, his guard barking is likely to subside. Once Anari feels comfortable and secure, he settles into his new environment and demonstrates his true nature. His shyness transforms into a loyal and affectionate demeanor, creating a special bond between him and his adopter. The more he is handled and shown patience, the more he will flourish and become an integral part of the family. Anari would benefit from a calm and structured household, where his need for routine and stability can be met. Engaging him in regular exercise and mental stimulation, such as puzzle toys or obedience training, will not only keep him physically fit but also provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment. If you are an experienced dog owner who understands the needs of a shy and sensitive dog, Anari could be the perfect addition to your family. His journey to overcome his fears and blossom into a confident companion will be a rewarding experience for both of you. Open your heart and home to Anari, and you will witness the transformation of a timid dog into a loyal and loving lifelong friend. Link to apply: http://www.kcpetrescue.org/adoption-services.html
