Story
Meet Wheezy! Wheezy is a devoted, affectionate four-year-old mixed-breed sweetheart currently in Centreville, VA, whose heart is just as big as her personality. With her snowy white coat, golden patches, and striking icy blue eyes, she’s as beautiful as she is loving! She’s a loyal, cuddly, and playful companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her people, whether that means snuggling on the couch or enjoying her favorite activity, gentle but enthusiastic roughhousing with her favorite humans. Her name suits her perfectly. When she’s soaking up affection, she lets out little wheezes and oinks of pure contentment, like a happy little piglet. It’s impossible not to smile! A Smart Girl Who Thrives On Connection Wheezy is remarkably intelligent and responsive. She’s fully house-trained, knows several commands including sit, shake, place, free, and wait, and learns new skills quickly. During play, she brings joyful enthusiasm while staying gentle, and she responds immediately when asked to calm down. Her attentiveness and responsiveness reflect her strong desire to connect and please. What Wheezy Needs To Thrive Wheezy would thrive as the only pet in the home. She’s reactive toward other animals and isn’t comfortable sharing her space, but in a pet-free environment, she can relax and show her best qualities, affectionate, playful, and deeply devoted. With new people, Wheezy typically needs about 10 to 15 minutes to warm up. She may bark or seem unsure at first, but offering a bit of wet food helps her feel comfortable quickly. Once she decides you’re okay, she’s all in, following you around and happily seeking out affection! Caregivers consistently describe her as really sweet and easy once she’s had that brief adjustment period. She’s also made meaningful progress on leash. While she used to react strongly to dogs across the street, she can now pass them with only a brief fluff and grumble before moving on. With the right precautions, walks have become much more enjoyable. The Details Wheezy receives Venlafaxine to help manage stress and reactivity, and it’s been very beneficial for her. She also follows a special diet to manage food sensitivities, which helps her feel her best. Vet visits require some preparation and pre-visit medication, and with that support, she does well. Is Wheezy The Right Match For You? If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and delightfully quirky companion who will be your constant shadow, Wheezy may be a wonderful match! She would do best with an experienced adopter in a quiet, pet-free home. She’s not currently compatible with homes with young children. Interested in learning more? Please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com. Wheezy is ready to meet the family who’s right for her! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
Meet the sweet and sensitive Spot. This girl has had a pretty rough past, but she`s ready to start fresh. Spot came from an unsafe and unsanitary enviornment where she never got to practice being a `real dog.` This means that everything outside of her previous living environment is new(and therefore, frightening) to her. She is looking for a safe place to land where she can slowly come out of her shell at her own pace- without any expectations. She would benefit from a very quiet, predictable environment where no social pressure could be put on her. Here at the shelter, we have found that reuniting red with her best friend, Red, has made an immense difference for her. These two sisters being together has been mutually benefiical, and helps them build confidence! They love to go on walks together and wrestle in the yard. If your home is big enough to help two worried ladies find a safe place to land, these girls would love to stay together. They are able to make more progress moving thorugh the world as a pair!

Story
PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to Massachusetts shortly with no additional travel costs. Roughly 90% of our dogs are adopted prior to their transport up to MA and 10% are adopted locally.Meet Lawless! Lawless is approximately 3 years old, 21 lbs currently and he might have some Cattle dog in his mix! In his foster home, he is doing great with his house training, crate training and leash walking. He could go to a home with kids 5+, and other dogs. He has not been exposed to cats. No apartments, please! His foster says, `He loves everyone: women, men, and children. He gets along great with all 3 of my dogs ranging from small to large. He fit right in with everyone from the first day I brought him home. He loves toys but needs durable ones since he is a strong chewer. He likes to play chase with my chiweenie in the back yard. He sleeps in a crate at night and sleeps all through the night. The only time he barks in his crate is when he hears something outside. He has also cuddled with me in the bed a few times, but I prefer him to sleep in crate at night so I do not have to worry about him chewing anything while I am asleep. He is one of the easiest fosters I have had. He listens well and is so so sweet.`He is available for adoption in N Dartmouth mid to late January. Please fill out an application on our website at https://www.browndogcoalition.com/adoptable as a first step.-Dogs may not be given as gifts or surprises.-Please thoughtfully discuss with your entire household the physical, safety, financial and emotional responsibilities of a dog BEFORE applying to adopt.- More information about our adoption process, application and adoption fees can be found at browndogcoalition.com

Story
Meet Chase!First and foremost, Chase is going to need someone with confidence because he has none. Just about five years old, Chase is going through a tough transition right now. He's confused and overwhelmed and he probably never had much confidence to begin with and this situation obviously isn't helping. Chase is a cattle dog/husky mix and he's definitely got the smarts from both breeds. He's a little over 40lbs and he's a very good boy just having a hard time adjusting to his whole world being flipped upside down. He's a big scaredy-cat until he's not, and then he'll lay belly up in your lap like the sensitive baby that he is. He's definitely a worrier but we think a lot of that anxiety comes from losing the person he got direction from and now it's left him with a whole lot of uncertainty. Chase did previously live with kids but right now, he's scared of everything. The wind blowing the wrong way scares him, tennis balls scare him, and the quick movements and loud noises of kids would definitely scare him. He's not super enthusiastic about other dogs but is very non-confrontational and prefers to just avoid unless he absolutely can't. He's scared of cats because of course he is.When Chase is comfortable with you, he's a little fluffy ball of sunshine. He'll be happy and super excited to see you and give you the happiest wiggles. He gives kisses and tail wags, he loves belly rubs, and loves being in someone's lap. He isn't terrible on a leash as far as pulling goes but does tend to get his leash wrapped around your legs and his own legs so he'll need some work. He's got the foundation and he's got the brains, he just needs someone to provide him with structure and much-needed confidence.
