Story
Hello everyone! My name is Dewey and I am an adorable young pup with lots of love to give! I can be shy when I first meet my humans, but I do warm up. I am athletic and curious, and I love to explore and learn about my surroundings. I am also affectionate, gentle, and funny, and I love to make my humans happy. I am good with older children and loyal to those closest to me. I love to play and run around, but I am also content with curling up on the couch with my favorite friends or humans. I might be a bit independent, but I am also very smart and I am sure I will learn quickly how to be a good boy in my furever home. I absolutely love other dogs, so please make sure I have a doggie friend to play with. I absolutely love car rides and love going on hikes. A fenced yard would be good for me as well please. If you are looking for a fun, loving, playful and loyal companion, please consider adopting me! I am sure I will be a great addition to your family! Apply for me today!!! Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Calm, low energy, low maintenance. Katy is a 5yo female Australian Cattle Dog mix who was rescued running down the highway in rural TN summer 2024. Her rescuers were an older couple who took Katy home and made her part of the family which includes 3 other dogs. Not cat tested. Okay with older dog savvy kids. Good house manners. Housebroken but never crated because she doesn’t need to be. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  Initially, Katy tested positive for heartworms but she was treated without complications and cured. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 50 pounds. Here’s some info from Katy’s rescuer/owner:   We found Katy near a busy intersection 10 months ago and decided to keep her but we have 3 high energy dogs and our female recently started picking on Katy. For Katy's sake, we think she is better suited in a much lower energy environment. She’s rather uninterested and indifferent when it comes to other dogs and is happy with her place in the pack. She is fine to co-exist with other dogs, but does not seem to want to engage in play that much. So, she would not be an ideal candidate for an adopter who specifically wants an active playmate for their first dog.  Katy wants a calm environment. If she sees other dogs play fighting, she becomes a “hall monitor” and tries to stop them. If a dog runs past her, she’ll sometimes try to grab them, not in an aggressive way, but just to calm them down like a hall monitor would. (That’s the cattle dog in her!). We let Katy spend the night with a friend who has a dog. Everything was fine until the dog next door came over to play and out came the hall monitor. Katy is a sweet, happy, respectful, and low energy dog. She likes giving and receiving affection, but it’s best to invite her to come to you for affection instead of going in for a big hug. If you get down on her level, she’ll come to you. She doesn’t like sudden, unexpected intrusions into her space. She prefers being pet instead of hugs. Her ideal adopter would be an adult couple or single that wants a happy walking buddy or just a sweet companion. A calm, low energy environment. No small children but she would be fine with older dog savvy kids. No other dogs or maximum one low energy dog. Story
Meet Anari, a delightful Australian Cattle Dog in search of a loving forever home. At 6 years old, Anari has already experienced some of life's challenges, but with the right environment and patient care, he has the potential to be a devoted companion. Anari gets along well with other dogs, making him an excellent choice for families or individuals who already have furry friends at home. He understands the dynamics of canine socialization and is likely to thrive in a household where he can engage in play and companionship with other dogs. Due to his past experiences, Anari tends to be a bit shy and cautious when encountering new people or situations. It is important to provide him with a calm and secure environment, allowing him the time and space to adjust at his own pace. With patience and understanding, you will witness his true personality shine as he gradually comes out of his shell. When initially meeting new people, Anari may exhibit protective behavior by barking, almost like a guard dog. This is his way of expressing caution and fear, which can be mitigated through positive reinforcement and gentle handling. As he gains trust and becomes more familiar with his surroundings, his guard barking is likely to subside. Once Anari feels comfortable and secure, he settles into his new environment and demonstrates his true nature. His shyness transforms into a loyal and affectionate demeanor, creating a special bond between him and his adopter. The more he is handled and shown patience, the more he will flourish and become an integral part of the family. Anari would benefit from a calm and structured household, where his need for routine and stability can be met. Engaging him in regular exercise and mental stimulation, such as puzzle toys or obedience training, will not only keep him physically fit but also provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment. If you are an experienced dog owner who understands the needs of a shy and sensitive dog, Anari could be the perfect addition to your family. His journey to overcome his fears and blossom into a confident companion will be a rewarding experience for both of you. Open your heart and home to Anari, and you will witness the transformation of a timid dog into a loyal and loving lifelong friend. Link to apply: http://www.kcpetrescue.org/adoption-services.html
