Story
Our pets are fostered and physically located in Mt.Airy, Nc until they are adopted. Once they are adopted we an transport to your location or one of our other north eastern locations. Our transporter runs every other Friday. Baby Girl is a red heeler. She was born 6-27-20. She is a smaller girl, around 35 pounds. It is typical of the females of this breed to be smaller than the males. We pulled her from a high intake shelter knowing she was heartworm positive (not many groups will take heartworm positive dogs due to the large expense of treating them). We had her treated for heartworms and she is cleared to go to her new home now. Baby Girl is an absolute doll of a dog. She is great with people. She likes other dogs and she does not seem to mind the cats here either. She is crate trained and potty trained. She is an active dog, she is a working dog. She needs to be matched up with an active owner who has heeler experience. She will not do well cooped up in a small cramped apartment all day. She would be great to teach agility to or train in other fun games that heelers excel at. She needs a job, even if it is not working cattle(they are cattle dogs)! So it will be up to her person to give her the stimulation and physical activity she will be need. This girl is spayed and will go home current on all vaccines, deworming, flea prevention on heartworm prevention(current negative heartworm test), and microchipped. This girl will receive a completed physical and certificate of health issued by our vet prior to transport. The adopter will get all the health records with the adoption. We require a prescreen application to adopt. You can find that on our website at www.saveamuttkennel.net

Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Aren't I gorgeous? My name is Poppy and I'm a purebred Australian Cattle Dog. Over a year ago, I came from Texas and less than an hour after arriving at FMAR, I gave birth to six healthy puppies. As you can imagine, I was very stressed and it took me a long time to develop bonds with staff and volunteers. As more and more of our volunteers got to know me, I started to show them my loveable and playful side. My new owners should have experience or knowledge with my breed and be willing to be extremely patient since I'm shy and afraid of strangers. I'm not comfortable with a new person reaching to pet me or putting a leash on me. It may take a few hours, days, or even weeks to rub my belly - but if you're patient it will be worth the wait! Once I trust you, I become a wildly affectionate girl! I love to roll in the grass, splash in the water, and zoom around the yard. My favorite thing to do is to cuddle next to my favorite person. Hopefully it will be you! I'm truly a great dog once you get to know me!If you would like to meet me, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. I'm spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $350, which covers all of the medical care I have received.**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Zeb is another brave shelter dog with a sad story. At age 3 he was rescued from a very "high kill" facility. He was brought to Michigan and adopted to a wonderful home about 6 years ago... until his person became gravely ill and was hospitalized. Putting Zeb first, his owner asked our officers to find a good home for their beloved dog. Zeb is a herding breed dog and definitely lives up to his ancestry! He likes long walks a lot, but his real love is in doing his job. He adores yard play (with his people) where he is allowed to "herd". He will find toys and push them all to one spot, then proceed to herd them. He would likely try to herd other animals and small children too. :) Zebadiah is now about 9 years old. He is housetrained and finds it upsetting if he is not taken out to use the bathroom. The shelter volunteers make sure all housetrained dogs go out first in the morning and evening. Zeb is a larger breed and weighs around 70 pounds. He would thrive in a home with a constant (human) companion. He isn't a fan of being crated, and will sometimes howl a lament if left alone too long. Zeb is neutered, heartworm negative (and on prevention) and updated on vaccinations. If you think you might be the right home for Zeb, online applications can be found on our website at wacshelter.com. Email us at wacvolunteers@gmail.com with any questions!

Story
Paco was born 10/2022 and is aCattle mix puppy. He is hesitant with strangers and especially men but after he warms up, he is a little cuddle bug! Paco is full of playful puppy energy and loves to rough house with his 60lb resident sibling. He would thrive in a house with another playful dog and is no cats. He comes when called, knows how to sit and lay down, is great in the car, and in the crate. He dislikes bath time but loves to be your shadow and is good with kids. He’s up to date on vaccines and is neutered. Like any puppy, he is still teething and perfecting his potty training, but he will make the best family addition!

Story
Meet Sally. She is almost 1 years old. The size she is now will be her forever size. She won’t get too much bigger. She is such a sweet heart. Gets along with other pets, but would prefer to be the star of the show. She does get jealous if attention isn’t on her at all times. Currently on dry food. Sally must have some sort of chew toy at her disposal. She is still a puppy but if things are left on the ground there is a 99.9% chance she will claim it as her own. She loves being on my lap! She is such a sweetie but definitely needs a home that is patient and ready to train her to be the best she can be for her breed! A friend of mine recently moved and this is how I ended up with her. I have 2 other dogs and a cat and can’t take on another one! I would work with her if I wasn’t committed to my other 3 while working full time!

These pups are in Toledo, Ohio too!
