Alexandrite is such a stunning beautiful little lady that has everyone stop in their tracks and say, "Awwwww!". She is full of puppy energy while playing with her brother and her resident foster big brother (20 lb dachsund mix), but by herself she is extremely shy and at times fearful of all the new sounds and spaces. When she is feeling overwhelmed, she'll chill under the couch and poke her cute face out or curl up next to you on the couch. Being by people or other puppies makes her feel so much more comfortable! She loves to play with toys, balls, rope tug and wrestle with the boys. Potty training is going well, but she usually needs a leash on when going out since she might get scared and run back to the door to go inside. With gentle coaching she does great and can get her business done and then move onto playing. She is a favorite with the kids who are always wanting to make her feel safe and loved. She's learning the ropes from the other dogs and might benefit from a home with another friendly dog in it so she can learn the world is not so scary. Adoption Day: April 25th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Sweet Little Maisie is almost 6 months old and she is a true LOVE! She has soft, fluffy, reddish-brown fur and STRIKING blue eyes. She will be a medium size dog; current weight is 19 lbs. Maisie was a stray, hungry, and skinny when we found her but extremely friendly. We haven't found a human or animal that she doesn't love....kids, dogs, and even cats are not a problem. She was recently spayed and microchipped and is up to date on all of her vaccinations. She would make a great family dog, as evidence by already being loved on by a 2 & 9 year old while in foster care. Maisie is SMART; she learned to sit in 2 minutes and loves to snuggle. She appears to be a mix of Australian cattle dog and corgi, BUT that is only an guess based on her looks. Maisie will be ready to go to her FUREVER home by April 17th. Wags to Riches Rescue & Rehab is a very small rescue with a 2-woman show. All costs are a "pay it forward fee" to help us save the next dog. We do not transport the dog (Maisie is in Alababma), but we know a transport company that is extremely affordable (they charge $150 to transport the dog from Alabama to northern states) or you can arrange your own transport.
