Story
Meet Sargent This handsome boy was surrendered by his soldier daddy. When leaving he mentioned in passing that Sargent doesn’t like confined spaces. Sadly, nearly five years later, Sargent is in exactly that - the confines of a concrete kennel. We love this boy so much, but the shelter life is taking a toll on him. He needs a second chance desperately. Sargent is nearly six years old now. He’s thought to be a Boxer/Australian Shepherd mix. He’s a handsome boy with a tan and white coat and one brown and one partial blue eye. His ears are expressive and he looks at you as if he knows what you’re saying. Sargent is on the bigger side weighing 72 pounds. Sargent is a calm and relaxed dog when he’s in the play yards. He loves the fresh air, feeling the grass under his paws and the sun on his face. You can just see him relax. We give him as much time outside as we can. Sargent seems to be house-broken. He’s smart and knows some commands like sit and shake. Sargent has a lot of energy and will enjoy being part of an active family that’s able to keep his body and mind going. Sargent has a high prey drive. He’ll need to be an only pet to start. Time away and hooman bonding to decompress could change that. For his new family though it will be best to let him go at his own pace after all he’s been through. Sargent seems to be afraid of men when he meets them initially. He likes women though. For the person or family interested in Sargent, a few visits may be necessary for him to feel safe. Sargent fears stressful situations and that’s exactly what he’s in. Sargent wasn’t expecting the turn that his life took. He’s hanging in there, but we know it’s not easy on him. If you’re looking for a wonderful companion dog to welcome into your family, come meet Sargent. If interested in giving Sargent a soft landing, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Luna and Sunny are a sweet, bonded pair of best friends who are looking for a forever home together. Sunny is a 10-month-old male Golden Retriever, and Luna is an 11-month-old female Australian Shepherd. These two are inseparable and truly thrive when they’re side by side. They are both incredibly sweet, social butterflies who love people and enjoy being around other dogs. They do well with kids and bring a joyful, friendly energy wherever they go. Sunny and Luna were previously living outdoors, so they will need a home with a securely fenced yard, as they may be considered a flight risk while adjusting to a new environment. Because of their past, they are likely not fully house trained yet, but with patience, consistency, and love, they’ll be eager learners. If you’re looking to double the love, fun, and companionship, Sunny and Luna could be the perfect addition to your family. These two hearts are ready to start their next chapter—together. Luna currently weighs about 44lbs., is approximately 11 months old (est. birth date 02/20/2025), and her adoption fee is $510. Luna has been spayed, is up to date on all vaccinations & preventatives, and is microchipped. If you want to know more about Luna and Sunny, please complete a survey at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FKDS/Dog. After submitting a survey, an adoption counselor will contact you within 72 hours to give you more information about the dog you are interested in adopting and to arrange for you to meet. You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt.

Story
I AM CURRENTLY IN FOSTER!Hi, I’m Orpheus — but my foster family calls me Opie.I’m a very sweet, good-natured boy who’s been through more than my heart should have had to handle. I’m fully housebroken, I absolutely love other dogs, and I’m learning — slowly but surely — that the world doesn’t have to be such a scary place.I am extremely fearful, and that fear is deeply imprinted from earlier experiences in my life. New people, unfamiliar environments, loud noises, and too much stimulation can be overwhelming for me. Building trust with me takes time, patience, and a calm presence. I don’t do well with being rushed, talked at, or “love-bombed” — for me, comfort comes from quiet energy, predictable routines, and respectful body language. When trust does begin to form, that’s where the magic happens. After two months in foster care, I’ve started seeking out affection on my own terms and have even begun snuggling on the couch with my foster mom. Those moments are incredibly special because they’re earned — and they mean everything.I would thrive in a home with space, including a dedicated area where I can feel safe and decompress. Having at least one confident, friendly dog in the home is very important for me — other dogs help me feel secure and act as a bridge between me and the human world.I’m not the kind of dog who will greet you at the door right away — but for the right person, willing to move at my pace and let trust grow naturally, I will be a deeply rewarding companion. If you believe in quiet progress, patience, and the beauty of watching a fearful dog learn to feel safe, I may be the one you’ve been waiting for.Currently, I am available for adoption. If you`re interested in adopting me, please fill out an application online or call the Humane Society of Forsyth County at 770-887-6480. Adoption hours are Tuesday through Thursday 11-5 or Friday and Saturday 1-5. All of my love and kisses, Orpheus /(^.^)\",AVAILABLE"

Story
Sweet dog who deserves a good home where she can be out in a yard to play. Unfortunately, my busy schedule does not allow her to do that while also in the process of moving. She needs to be in a home that can give her the proper time and attention. She is a rescue from Lubbock, TX which makes her a beautiful West Texas dog and she's tough like it! She loves pets and attention and will bring you so much joy with her clumsiness. She is a loving dog who deserves the opportunity to have the attention given to her as much as she will give to you! She is up to date on vaccines. She is registered at both the Flowery Branch and Gainesville animal clinics. She will come with her own crate, harness, and all the dog food that she has left.

Story
Meet Ryder – Your Hug-Loving, Cat-Cuddling Cowboy 🐾💙 Ryder is a 2-year-old Mini Aussie/Blue Heeler mix with a heart full of love and a soul that’s wiser than his years. This handsome gentleman had to say goodbye to his previous home when his owner could no longer care for him, but he's ready to find his forever family. Ryder is a total ladies’ man and an expert hugger. He gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and kids, making him the perfect companion for just about any household. He’s a little shy at first, but give him a moment and you'll see his sweet, old-soul personality shine. He is fully vettted. He is not a fan of car rides, but honestly, who needs to go anywhere when Ryder’s waiting at home to snuggle? While he loves to play with other dogs, and is very gentle with cats, he is a very docile and calm boy who loves to cuddle and snuggle, unlike most Aussies! If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle friend with a big heart and soft fur, Ryder might just be your guy. 💫 He would make a wonderful addition to any home. If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out our adoption application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/ACPR/Dog
