We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 dog/cat that you are interested in.-Attach a copy of proof of home ownership (i.e. tax bill, deed, or mortgage payment – you can black out the account #, etc.) or animal clause/agreement of your rental agreement. This must be in a .jpeg format. If you are unable to send in this format, please be prepared to provide this documentation in another way prior to adoption.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other dogs/cats. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Freckles is a female Australian Shepherd mix. She has some fear reactivity issues with unfamiliar people and dogs that she has been working on. Story
Chips is a very sweet dog who loves to cuddle. He needs a home with owners who have the time to give him the attention and exercises he needs and deserves. He would do amazing in a home with a lot of land. He is okay with kids if experiences adopters but would be best in a home without kids.

Story
Larry is a 6 month old 30 lb Aussimo (he prefers awesome-o) who wants nothing more than to make you happy. He is happy to sit next to you and sleep while you work, but he also loves to be active if you are. Going to the fridge for a snack? Larry is going with you. Anything could happen in the kitchen, and Larry has to make sure you get back safe. Larry is fully house and crate trained and uses bells (hanging from door) to signal when he needs to go. However, you will probably want to tether him (if inside) for a small period of time while he gets used to his new home. Larry loves treats, and he loves to do tricks to get them. He learns super fast as long as treats are involved. He obediently sits or lays down while you give him food and will wait for the command to eat. Here is a list of all the things Larry knows (he is currently studying quantum physics, but not there yet): Calm (sit), Lie down, Spin, Go pottie, Crate, Go outside, Come, Fetch, Paw, and probably some I forgot.
