Story
Meet Shelby! Located in East TN but out of state is welcome and if you’re seeing this in adopt a pet the adoption fee includes the cost of transport and a health certificate required by USDA for transport across state lines. This beauty found herself at the kill shelter. Why??? Well because she was trying to dig her way out of her owners yard. This really stinks because she is an amazing and smart dog. She has not tried to escape our yard although she did slip out of a gate once when I opened it. She doesn’t run she is just nosey. See image is what is called a working breed dog. And if you don’t take the time to train and help them burn off energy they will develop bad habits out of sheer boredom. She needs exercise and mental stimulation so she doesn’t become bored. She seems to be happy with the rescue and like all the other dogs. She likes the routine and she likes to play with toys and will entertain herself a while but that does not mean she doesn’t need you to help her with releasing energy. You can’t just shove her in the back yard and close the door and hope she finds something to do. You have to provide something for her to do. You have to engage with her and train through playing with her. She has been amazing here! She is crate trained and house trained too. She has not chewed anything she shouldn’t she only chews on the rope toys or bones we have for her She has not jumped on counters or tried to get in the trash. We do supervise them though. She sleeps through the night in her crate and will go out to potty. She is ok with most other dogs however she is a bit dominant so another female around same age or temperament would not be good. She is a very confident girl and she is a herding breed. She will join a chase of kids or other dogs are running around and she will herd them. Herding dogs usually nip heals and this is in their genetic make up. This little gem won’t last long so get your applications in at petpath.org We use Rescue Riders for all our pet transport needs because they are awesome with our dogs! They are also a 501(c)(3) non profit. Win win!

Story
Cassian is 1 year old sweet boy who loves to play. He is shy around new people and proactive of his family. He LOVES playing at the dog parks. He has no problem meeting other dogs but no cats. Because of our busy schedules & lack of space, he needs a new home with a lot of space to run & play. He would probably need some additional training once adopted.

Story
Such a happy, sweet boy! Dodger is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 43 pounds. This wiggly, playful goof ball is still so very puppyish! He loves any and all toys, he throws them in the air to entertain himself, so silly. Dodger is very connecting too and after he gets his zoomies out, he loves to lay with you. He's an energetic pup who would love a running buddy, and when he's not burning off his puppy energy, he likes to do just about anything with you, as long as you are together. He does need some basic manners work, especially for jumping, but he catches on quickly with structure and guidance. Even playing with his toys, he is now dropping the toy at our feet for us to throw. Dodger also has a wonderful sit and takes his treats gently. If you're ready for some fun, adventure and lots of love, Dodger is the boy for you! He will need a home where any children are at least 4 years old, he can still be a tad puppy mouthy. Dodger will also need a fenced in yard to run out all his silliness. If you are interested in Dodger and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats*

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://us14b.sheltermanager.com/onlineform_view?formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). Story
Meet Dutchess! This two-year-old aussie/doodle mix is 45 pounds of gentle goodness. As an owner surrender, Dutchess is understandably confused in the kennel, and is looking for a loving family who can provide her with a safe and nurturing environment where she can thrive. Let's help her overcome her sadness and show her how great life truly can be! Known for giving warm hugs and being tender when taking treats, Dutchess is a timid girl who longs so much to trust. She has a kind-hearted temperament and has been trained to sit, shake, and walk well on a leash. She is a very capable girl and we know she will make you proud! She will benefit from continued training and daily exercise in her new home. Dutchess is an attentive girl and will make an excellent companion for one lucky family! She rides well in the car, and is fully house-trained! She will sit by the door to signal when she needs to go outside. Dutchess enjoys playing with bones and rope toys and we look forward to seeing more of her gorgeous smile as she gets to know the volunteers. Based on our evaluation, Dutchess would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages twelve and up. She will need to go to a home without cats or small animals due to her prey drive. She may have the potential to live with other dog her size. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you'd like to be the one to show Dutchess there is good times to come, visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and fill out and application for our darling Dutchess!
