We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 75-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 dog/cat that you are interested in.-Attach a copy of proof of home ownership (i.e. tax bill, deed, or mortgage payment – you can black out the account #, etc.) or animal clause/agreement of your rental agreement. This must be in a .jpeg format. If you are unable to send in this format, please be prepared to provide this documentation in another way prior to adoption.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other dogs/cats. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Freckles is a female Australian Shepherd mix. She has some fear reactivity issues with unfamiliar people and dogs that she has been working on. She would need a slow introduction if meeting a new dog. Freckles does get along with the other dogs at her foster home. The best fit home for her would be a calm adult only home. Approximate date of birth is 6/22/2014

Story
Julian is a paradox. He is adorable but he does not like children. He has serious anxiety issues when around his pack. He is afraid of everyone and everything(people, delivery personnel, other dogs, small animals, cats) He thinks he is being protective. But boarded he is the "belle of the ball" and loves other dogs and the staff. He is not a family dog. He belongs somewhere with adults only who are experienced dog owners.

Story
Misha is a great dog. Easy to train, very smart, reward, oriented! :) we’ve had him since he was a puppy, and really love him, but he needs an owner who can exercise him every day, or a farm, where he can roam. If he doesn’t get a good bit of exercise every day, he has a hard time, listening. He’ll follow you anywhere, he’s very loyal.

Border Collie

Hazel Park, MI
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
We took kano in a year ago due to daughters manager no longer being able to take care of him. He was left outside, tied to garage by a leash 24/7. The night we took him in was cold and pouring out. I couldn't say no. We have tried our best with him but due to my oldest daughters cancer diagnosis, we no longer have the time to continue on his craziness. He is very hyper and still needs work on potty training. He does use puppy pads but he still needs lots of work. He needs a home that had a decent size yard to run around in and be a border collie. He is good with kids after he has a decompression period. He has never been around small children and doesn't do well with other dogs. Although if he is around one for quite some time, I could see him having a best friend in the future. I really don't want to do but unfortunately it is not fair to him, nor the life we wanted to give. He deserves much more than I can offer through this challenging time.
