Looking for a professional lap warmer who doubles as your new favorite road trip co-pilot? Penny Chai is ready to claim her forever spot preferably right on top of you! Penny is a herding breed so we would love to find a family who is familiar with that. It’ll be best that there are no young children in the household because she does have herding tendencies with small children specifically. She will be the most loving dog you have ever known. A very best friend. She’s the most loving dog in the world. Penny is the kind of girl who takes a minute to warm up and then suddenly you realize she’s chosen you as her person. When she feels safe, she blossoms into the sweetest companion: affectionate, loyal, and always close by. She doesn’t need the spotlight; she just wants to be near her humans. Penny is the perfect little adventure buddy. Long walks, patio cafés, community events, or shopping trips. She is ready to tag along and quietly win hearts wherever she goes. She may start a little shy, but when she chooses you, it’s forever. Penny Chai has a way of making people smile wherever she goes watch her video https://youtu.be/IPeR9y8lIqQ At just 1 year old and 19 lbs., we believe Penny Chai is a Mini Aussie mix. Of course, she’s a rescue so while we can’t guarantee breed or age, this isn’t a wild guess, just an educated observation based on her look and traits. She’s on the smaller side, making her easy to walk, easy to travel with, and easy to scoop into the car for spontaneous outings. Compact, manageable, and full of love Penny is the perfect size for both everyday adventures and cozy nights in. Penny is a huge lap dog in the best way possible. She truly believes personal space is optional and will happily curl up right on you for movie nights, quiet mornings, or anytime you sit down. She loves being part of your everyday routine whether that’s hanging out at home, going for peaceful walks, or riding along for an adventure. happily, be your walking buddy, training partner, and everyday sidekick. She enjoys roaming the yard but checks in often and loves having direction. She’s treat motivated (which makes training fun and rewarding!) and would thrive with someone who enjoys engaging her smart, working-breed brain. Penny is currently in foster and has done well in that environment. She is kennel trained, settles nicely, and rides wonderfully in the car. In fact, she loves car rides and would happily be your co-pilot. Beach day? She’s in. Weekend getaway? She’s ready. She would do best in a home with older kids (12+) who can match her calm, respectful vibe. She enjoys being part of the family and thrives with gentle interactions. Penny would do best in a home with no other animals. While she is perfectly fine passing other dogs on walks and being around them in public, she would truly prefer a home where she can be the one and only. After a rough start to life, Penny feels safest and most secure when she doesn’t have to share her space. A calm home where all the love and attention is just for her will allow her to relax, build confidence, and truly blossom into the very best version of herself. Penny could thrive in a home with a yard where she can explore and stretch her legs, but she could also do beautifully in an apartment as long as she gets regular walks and enrichment. She’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply, loves structure, and truly blossoms with guidance. As she settles in, you may notice a few classic Aussie-style quirks which really just means she’s smart, sensitive, and happiest when she has a “job,” even if that job is simply being your loyal little shadow. Young, vibrant, and incredibly devoted, Penny will be a beautiful addition to many different types of homes. Whether she joins a family with another dog or becomes your one and only, she’ll remind you every single day how much our hearts need the simple, steady companionship of an adoring dog. Meet Roma — your future best friend, personal comedian, and professional heart-stealer all wrapped up in one tiny, wiggly package. At just 3 months old, Roma is already overflowing with personality. She’s the kind of puppy who makes every day feel brighter and a lot more fun. Playful, curious, and endlessly sweet, Roma turns even the simplest moments into an adventure. Whether she’s bouncing after a toy, romping around with her dog friends, or exploring something new, she does it all with a happy, tail-wagging enthusiasm that’s impossible to resist. Watch her YouTube video now https://youtu.be/sce0rceiGXA?si=7bn7aO2qSwpfU6O2 Roma absolutely loves other dogs and thrives in their company. She would do wonderfully in a home with a playful canine companion who can help show her the ropes and keep up with her puppy energy. She’s also incredibly people-focused and adores attention — she wants to be where you are, involved in your day, and soaking up every bit of love and affection you have to give. Even at her young age, Roma is already showing how smart and adaptable she is. She’s learning her leash skills very well and is picking things up quickly, making great progress with guidance and consistency. She’s also been to multiple events with lots of people and kids and handled it all beautifully. She takes new experiences in stride, showing a confident, social, and easygoing nature that makes her stand out. Of course, Roma is still a young puppy, which means she’ll need a family ready to continue her training with patience, structure, and positive reinforcement. She’s at the perfect age to build strong habits, and with her possible Australian Shepherd and Lab mix, she’s likely to grow into an intelligent, loyal, and active companion who will thrive with both mental and physical enrichment. Roma’s energy is joyful and contagious. She’ll keep you laughing with her silly, playful antics, then happily settle in for cuddles when she’s ready to recharge. She brings that perfect mix of fun and affection that makes life with a puppy so special. Because she’s so young, Roma will do best in a home that can give her plenty of time, attention, and continued socialization. Puppies like her need guidance and commitment, but in return, she’ll give you a lifetime of love, loyalty, and companionship. If you’ve been looking for a puppy who is as sweet as she is spirited, as loving as she is lively, Roma might just be your perfect match. She’s ready to find a forever family who will grow with her, guide her, and love her every step of the way. Adopt Roma and see just how quickly she’ll steal your heart. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69bf3b062cd5ecbbc00713d7 Questions? Story
This is Frodo. He is an almost 4 year old Australian Shepherd mix. He has quite a bit of energy but loves going to dog parks to run or chase a ball (still working on the bringing back part. lol) My wife and I recently had a baby who is almost two and since then he hasn’t been very nice to him. We do have another dog that he gets along with but she’s a female so maybe he’ll be good with dogs of his choosing or maybe only females. He is very sweet to his owners and older kids. He does need work in socializing. He’s fine when on a leash in public but still will occasionally growl at passersby. If he’s comfortable with you he’s also a very cuddly dog. All in all he is a good boy, he’s just not very fond of the baby and needs a little work in public which is why we need to rehome him.

Story
Freckles across his nose, a little black “Batman mask,” happy tippy-taps when he’s excited, and a heart that clearly wants to belong… this is Holliday. Equal parts goofy charm and affectionate shadow, Holliday is the kind of dog who leans all the way into love. His biggest dream? A couch, a person, and permission to pretend he’s a lap dog. Want to see those adorable tippy taps and that little masked face in action? Head over to YouTube and then come right back to learn more about the boy who believes every good day should include affection, snacks, and a welcoming lap to climb into. https://youtu.be/lPFbycVn8XA Holliday is estimated to be about 2 years old and appears to be a Border Collie mix but given he is a rescue, breed and birthday cannot be guaranteed. From the moment you meet him, Holliday’s affectionate nature is easy to see. He absolutely lights up when people give him attention and has a charming little habit of doing “tippy taps” with his feet when he’s happy or excited. It’s the kind of happy motion that makes everyone around him smile whether they are meeting for the first time or its a familiar connection. And inside its only sweeter, he is affectionate and his aspirations for lap-dog life really shine. Holliday is more than happy to make the first move and will come in close to soak up the love and lean in for a new nestling nose kisses. He is still learning some of the everyday things that come with the cozy life as a family dog. For example, couches were a new concept to him. When invited up, he wasn’t quite sure how to get there at first and needed a little boost. Moments like that tell us he’s likely still discovering what a comfortable home life looks like. The good news is that he’s eager to connect with people, smart and very responsive to guidance, which makes him a wonderful boy to open your heart and home to. On leash, Holliday is enthusiastic and currently pulls a bit, especially when he sees other dogs he’d like to meet. Much of his life before rescue life was spent on a very short leash outdoors so the world is understandably very exciting to him right now. With a confident understanding handler he has been making great progress with continued leash training. He is also very responsive to direction, correction, and listens well when told “no.” With other dogs, Holliday shows friendly curiosity. When meeting dogs he likes to sniff hello and then wander off to explore the yard. Play is still a bit of a mystery to him, but with the right dog companion we have seen he learns quickly and is easily invited to play even if she doesn’t know the steps after that. When meeting new dogs he reads them well and respects boundaries and limits easily. We can see him being a wonderful fit for a home with medium-energy, similarly sized dogs. Holliday is also very food motivated, which is wonderful for training. He eats enthusiastically and takes treats gently. Because Holliday can be a little jumpy, which he is working on, when he’s excited to receive affection, we think he’ll do best in a home with older kids who won’t be knocked over by his enthusiastic greetings. His affection truly comes from a joyful place and is gentle, not rough or heavy footed. He just hasn’t quite learned yet that hugs don’t always have to involve all four feet leaving the ground, but some people do enjoy those big, warm dog hugs. A home with a yard would be ideal for Holliday while he continues building his leash skills, giving him space to stretch his legs and explore safely. With time, guidance, and a loving environment, we think this freckled little masked hero is going to blossom into a wonderful, lap-loving, whole-new-world companion and sidekick. If you’re looking for a dog who will greet you with tippy taps, shower you with affection, and happily grow alongside you as he learns what family life is all about, Holliday is your guy! Story
This cutie is Brandy. She is currently 4 months old and weighs approximately 19lbs. We think they may be a border collie/ Australian shepherd mix, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from us, it saves their life as well as the life of another in its place. Watch Brandy’s playful personality here: https://youtu.be/eONmEGF4N5w?si=SnjARUCoETxUljRa Brandy is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. She loves to play with her siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! We pride ourselves in being able to give you good personality and behavioral information to help ensure this baby is the right fit for you. You are also welcome to do a Facetime call to meet your new baby before signing paperwork! Brandy is still very young and will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. A puppy is discovering new things that shape their personalities with each passing day. Implementing routine, structure, setting boundaries, and proper socialization is key from the start. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy starting immediately when arriving at their new home, which will help with potty training, energy management, and the overall development of a well-rounded adult dog. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
If you’ve heard the expression “personality plus” it was no doubt in reference to Robin. He’s sweet, cuddly, and loyal. Whether he’s proudly adding to his daily stick collection or inventing a new game, he brings an effortless charm to everything he does. Loves playing with his people: fetch, puzzles, you name it. Whip-smart, eager to learn, and motivated to please. Mastered basic obedience skills, crate trained, and walks nicely on leash after the excitement of the outing wears off a bit. If you’re an outdoorsy soul, Robin is your perfect match. He’s an adventure buddy with plenty of energy for hikes, camping, and weekend exploring. Daily exercise is the way to his heart, and an occasional bigger excursion is icing on the cake. When activity winds down, he’s ready to enjoy cuddle time with his favorite people. Robin is a fit for families with older kids and has lived with cats in the past. He gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine companion in his new home or could be an only dog. Find a video mashup of his adventures at https://youtu.be/ZBva0eIoGMU Robin’s health is managed through a hydrolyzed protein diet to keep his sensitive tummy stable. He takes seizure-prevention medication for episodes that occur roughly twice per year. The total cost for his specialized food and medication is about $180/mo, which is certainly a consideration for his new family. The return on investment is incalculable: it’s the reward of sharing life with an extraordinary dog. If you’re looking for a bright, affectionate, endlessly entertaining companion, Robin may just be the perfect addition to your family. He can’t wait to bring laughter, love, and lots of his precious sticks into his new home. APPLY TO ADOPT this handsome lad at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Heart of a Border Collie will be screening applications for Robin. His adoption will be a private transaction between his existing and new families. A rehoming fee may be negotiated. Robin was adopted from Heart of a Border Collie in Minnesota as a puppy, and his family has now moved to the Seattle area where we hope to work with his family and help him find a new home.
