APRIL 2026 PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BELOW. IT WILL ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. If you still have questions after, we are happy to respond through email. It is a long read and a long adoption process. Please understand we are ensuring that our babies go to great homes and we don't know you personally (yet). Understand that this is an adoption of a beautiful little soul that deserves the absolute best life. The average lifespan of a cat is 13 to 20 years. Some cats even live into their thirties, although this is far less common. So don't let that discourage you from adopting an adult cat! Rescue Mama has had 3 live into their 20's. One was 8 weeks old. RACHEL VALDEZ and 12 other relatives of hers were all dumped at a church in Whittier, California. These poor babies were left in the sun in a total of two carriers in front of a church. Needless to say, the rescue mama set course that day to pick them up. It took us 2 days to get them all to the rescue and to foster care. So RACHEL VALDEZ (named after the show: WYNONNA EARP) we believe was kept very well by whomever abandoned her. With all the tragedy that has happened to this young girl and her family, she deserves to have a wonderful home. She is now living a nice pampered life. RACHEL VALDEZ is a HUGE LUV BUG. When you pick her up, she will stay still and allow pets. You can see in her sweet little face, she is has the look of wanting love. But she also looks like she will be quite sassy. She loves to play by herself or any kitten. She does this cute little butt drop dance hen someone approaches her. She really loves to play with toys. She loves her can food and she will tell you all about it. She needs a real family that will love her like their own family member. **** RACHEL VALDEZ does have scratches on her cornea. They do not bother her at all and she can see just fine. **** RACHEL VALDEZ is DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR / EGYPTIAN MAU-TABBY MIX. She is about 3 years and 3 months old. She is good with cats. She has never been around young children or dogs. But she does seem very curious about dogs. RACHEL VALDEZ is at our rescue in Hemet, California. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. JUNE 2026 PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BELOW. ATHENA GRANT and her 2 siblings (KAREN WILSON - JOSH RUSSO - MAY GRANT - EDDIE DIAZ) were saved from a hoarding case in Watts, California. They were all barley surviving. We named all the cats that were saved from that place after the characters in the show 911. ATHENA GRANT is a shy yet inquisitive cat. She possesses a loving demeanor and thrives on proximity to her human companions. While she enjoys cuddling, it is essential to respect her boundaries and allow her to initiate affection. A gradual approach is recommended, as sudden movements may be overwhelming. ATHENA GRANT is deeply devoted to her human family and requires time to establish trust. Her athletic build and slender physique are reminiscent of a track and field athlete. As a highly energetic and playful individual, ATHENA GRANT delights in engaging in physical activities and chasing toys. She coexists harmoniously with calm and composed felines who respect her personal space. However, she may become overwhelmed by assertive or dominant cats. ATHENA GRANTs greatest desire is to form a deep bond with a human companion. Due to her sensitive nature, it is advisable that she be placed in a household with older children who understand and respect personal boundaries. Her compatibility with canine companions is uncertain. ATHENA GRANT seems to be the kind of cat who is both subtle and graceful in her approach to relationshipswhether with humans or other animals. Her Egyptian Mau background gives her a naturally athletic and agile build, but it also comes with a keen sense of awareness. These cats are often known for their intelligence and sensitivity, so ATHENA GRANT might be particularly attuned to the emotions of the people around her. When shes shy, its likely her way of processing the world and making sure she feels comfortable with the energy in the room. It also means she can form incredibly strong bonds with her human family once she feels safe. Its clear that patience is key with her. Since sudden movements can overwhelm her, its likely that building trust with Athena will take time, and that slow, consistent approach will eventually pay off. The fact that shes playful and energetic suggests that once youve earned her trust, shell open up and be an active participant in your life. Its just a matter of respecting her boundaries and allowing her to initiate physical affection when she feels ready. For someone who is attentive to her needs, I imagine ATHENA GRANT would be a deeply rewarding companion. Her playful side might come out during quiet, low-stress moments when she feels comfortable and secure. Given her athletic build, shes probably not the type to just lounge around all day. Egyptian Maus are known for their energetic bursts, and I can imagine her delighting in chasing toys, maybe pouncing on them with that sleek, graceful movement thats characteristic of the breed. Whether shes chasing a feather wand or pouncing on a ball, those play sessions will likely be an essential part of her routine to burn off energy and keep herself mentally stimulated. When it comes to other animals, ATHENA GRANT seems like she could thrive in a calm, peaceful household. Shed likely get along best with other cats who respect her spaceones who are more introverted or laid-back rather than overly dominant or assertive. Since shes sensitive, its understandable that she might feel overwhelmed by more dominant cats who are pushy or aggressive, but with the right companion, she might develop a harmonious relationship where both cats understand each others boundaries. The mention of her being better suited for a home with older children is insightful. Children who are respectful of ATHENA GRANTs personal space would allow her to feel more secure and be able to interact with them at her own pace. ATHENA GRANTs shyness could be an asset in a quieter, more structured environment where she can learn to trust the people around her at her own speed. ATHENA GRANT's story is one of resilience and healing, and her gentle soul is a reminder of the power of kindness and care. Though shes come a long way from her rough beginnings, shes never forgotten how much love can change a life. Now, she spends her days in quiet joy, a constant reminder of the unconditional love that a rescue pet can give. ATHENA GRANTs journey from a sick kitten in a rehab center to the sweet lap cat she is today is a testament to the strength of the human-animal bond and the healing power of patience, care, and a warm lap. If youre interested in bringing ATHENA GRANT into your life, please apply at: Workinwhiskers.com ATHENA GRANT is a DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR / EGYTIAN MAU TABBY MIX. She is about 1 year 10 months old. Some cats even live into their thirties, although this is far less common. So don't let that discourage you from adopting an adult cat! Rescue Mama has had 3 live into their 20's. One was 8 weeks old. NEZUMI was saved by an independent rescuer back in late 2022. He was young. Well fast forward to a few years ago, the lady was killed by a drunk driver. We were asked to help with her rescues and to our dismay, her house was a horrific hoarding case. We pulled 55 cats that were still alive. Our rescue took 26 of those cats into out rescue. NEZUMI is now ready for adoption. NEZUMI can be shy at first. He gets comfortable very quick and is curious about everything. He can get startled, but will come back and investigate. He will then throw himself on the floor and demand attention. He is a very good assistant and loves to help you do your chores. He especially loves the mop. Oh and quite fond of his (we think) sister KOALA. NEZUMI is such a sweet love bug. All he wants is pets and love. Loves to play. He really loves to play with anything and makes you laugh with his silliness. NEZUMI comes running when it's time to get his can food. He will actually let you know to hurry up! He has the cutest face and his beautiful coat is very unique. His purr box is very loud. He's looking for his REAL FUREVER home. NEZUMI is a DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR / EGYPTIAN MAU MIX. He is about 4 years 7 months old. He has lived with cats. He has lived with dogs but are unaware of his interactions with them. He has never been around children. NEZUMI is currently at our rescue in Hemet, California. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Go to Workinwhiskers.com (Click on ADOPT) 2. Fill Out Online Form 3. Submit Online Application 4. It does not mean they don't have other pending applications or meet and greets. Please note: Just because you fill out an application and are approved does not obligate you to adopt the cat/kitten. If he or she is not a fit...we have plenty of other cats / kittens available for adoption. We are a SMALL rescue based out of Hemet, California. We are all volunteers that run the rescue. If we haven't reached out....be patient. NEZUMI is ALREADY fully vetted. The adoption fee of $200 covers: Neuter FVRCP shots RABIES shot FELV/FIV test (Negative/Negative) Drontal Dewormer Stronghold Flea Control Microchip We are NOT a government FUNDED shelter and all our donations and adoption fees are for our rescued cats/kittens. So, we do not do DISCOUNTS. If for some unfortunate reason you missed out on the kitten/cat you emailed about...I'm sure that we could help you with another rescue baby! Just ask! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Welcome to Act 2 Rescue where you become part of our A2R family! Adoption is an important time in your life and we are grateful to be a part of it. We take pride in offering you a personalized adoption experience with continuing behavioral support as needed. -Mindy Gould, CEO   Hi, I’m Tala I may have a tiny little body, but don’t let that fool you—I have a HUGE personality! I’m a Bengal girl who was rescued from a retiring breeder situation, and I’m learning more every day what it means to be a spoiled, loved house kitty. My absolute favorite thing in the world? My wheel! I could run for hours and would love a home that enjoys my playful, energetic side. When I’m not zooming, I’m soaking up attention from my people—I really love being around humans and getting lots of pets. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of being held, but I show my love in my own sweet ways. I’ll charm you instantly with my big green eyes and my affectionate personality. I bond deeply with my people and will happily keep you company. Because I like to be the center of attention, I do best as your one and only kitty. At just 6–7 pounds, I’m closer in size to my leopard relatives than your average house cat—but my heart is all about love. If you’re looking for a unique, beautiful, and lively companion who will truly capture your heart, I just might be your girl Note:  A2R kitties are all sterilized, fully vaccinated (if old enough), socialized in private homes not a cattery, they usually receive high end cat food, probiotics, & regular health care. We also provide 30 days of Petcademy free to support transition into your new home as well as having a professional cat behavior coach on staff to support your needs. We take pride in going above and beyond in our customer and kitty service. When you adopt from us you become part of our A2R family and join a community through our social media as well. Be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok and You Tube. _______________________________________________________________________  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please be aware we are a small foster based rescue in Riverside, California. Our volunteers often have other jobs/careers as well. We are not a government funded shelter and all of our donations including adoption donations are used to run the rescue and help the animals in our care. Since we are no kill, higher fees for in demand breeds help us cover critical care.  We are always in need of volunteers, donations, and fosters. Please excuse any wait times as we are often inundated with emergencies or short staffed due to the overpopulation crisis. You can learn more about us on our website or follow us here.   Steps 1-2  of the ADOPTION PROCESS must be done before we do OFFICIAL MEET & GREETS or take deposits.  To keep animals healthy,  we limit  foster based meet & greets  to people fully qualified to adopt them.   No animals can be held without a $75 deposit. Deposits cannot be refunded if you change your mind, they are to hold a cat and can result in other adopters being told they cannot adopt. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1.  Application:  Log into our website and complete the adoption application at link below: Applications :  Forms (rescuegroups.org) 2. Virtual Home Check: Once your application is approved, check back if you haven't been scheduled for a virtual home check within 48 hours.  A virtual home check to ensure safety of your residence for your kitty (not perfect cleanliness). You will be told during the visit if you pass.  3. Official meet & greet with your kitty at an adoption event, foster care, or adoption center depending on location of the kitty.   We only have a few  volunteers,  so we apologize at times we fall behind due to high demand of some cats.  5. Sign adoption contract and, if appropriate, foster to adopt clause. 6. Pay adoption fee via zelle using act2rescue@gmail.com (not our phone number) or using cash. We can accept cards at adoption events but the terminal charges fees that are pretty high so it's not the best option.  7. Take your kitty home. Be sure to isolate kitty while they adjust to your home. We may check in from time to time to be sure you do not need any additional support because we love hearing how our kitties are doing. As volunteer staff, happy stories are literally our paycheck.  8. Check out our website https://act2rescue.org for resources, blogs and info on how to best take care of your new kitty. Our professional behavior coach is available via text to assist you with transition as well. We also have a Facebook group to interact with our behavior coach and other kitten care experts, as well as our A2R family like you! ****Please note, we do not have dedicated staff for phone lines so please text instead of calling. If the cat/kitten is listed, they are available. However, they could have pending applications or meet and greets scheduled. Filling out an application and approval does not obligate you to adopt the kitty. If they are not a fit...we have plenty of other kitties for adoption. This kitty has received at least two FVCRP vaccines, rabies if over 4 months, Revolution for fleas/ticks/heartworms/stomach parasites/ear mites, de-wormer, sterilization*, and microchip (you must register for it to work but it's free).  All kitties are given a general wellness check by a veterinarian prior to sterilization.  Deposits: The only way we can hold a kitty is with a non-refundable (if you decide not to adopt within 2 weeks not if we void the adoption) deposit of $75. We reserve the right to void the adoption up until the point the contract is signed. If we cancel the adoption (for kitty health or other issues) we will refund your deposit. If you wait longer than 2 weeks, we cannot hold the kitty due to space constraints. Your deposit could be used on another kitty. If you decide not to adopt at all, any deposit will go to the care of animals rescued with us and may be written off as a donation.   Foster to Adopt: Kittens must be 2 lbs or 8 weeks and fixed to be adopted. This will be noted in the approximate available date. If a kitty is unable to be fixed in a timely manner, they may foster to adopt. This would be all adoption paperwork and donations would be exchanged and the kitten would go home. Adoption paperwork will have a clause that it is not final until animal is sterilized.  Once the sterilization appointment arrives you must bring them in to be sterilized or the animal will have to be returned to the rescue. You may also have them sterilized on your own and show proof to the rescue. Once sterilized the adoption will be complete. We normally do not do these in this manner but due to extreme situations they may arise. Final health checks are done during sterilization. Any unknown health issues would also allow you to choose a different cat.   Failure to comply with sterilization will result in returning the animal to us without refund of donations. Breeds:  We cannot guarantee breed but do our best to identify possible breeds based on their appearancxe and personality. If you DNA test your furry friend, let us know the results. It is fun to see what the kitty actually is and how close our guess is. Please know not all DNA companies test for all breeds and the science is still catching up so it may adjust later to have breeds we saw. We like to know so we can improve our analysis too.   We cannot guarantee health but go to great lengths to have healthy kitties. Kitties do not live in a cattery but in private fosters for this reason.  Snap Testing: We do not test for FELV/FIV in healthy animals as it is often incorrect in animals under 6 months and can be a false positive. False negatives also give a false sense of security. These tests are best done if an animal is unhealthy to determine disease.  https://www.uwsheltermedicine.com/library/resources/why-are-some-shelters-no-longer-testing-all-cats-for-felv-and-fiv July 19, 2026, 2:56 am

Adoption is an important time in your life and we are grateful to be a part of it. We take pride in offering you a personalized adoption experience with continuing behavioral support as needed. -Mindy Gould, CEO   Hi, I’m Xia I’m a Toyger — which means I look like a tiny tiger, with beautiful bold stripes and a sleek, athletic build (think Bengal flair with a designer twist!). I even come from the original creator of the Toyger breed, which makes my story a little extra special. I spent my early life as a breeder kitty, so when I first arrived in rescue, people and home life were still very new to me. At first I was VERY shy and liked to hide while I figured things out.  With a little patience and a lot of kindness, I started learning how nice it feels to be loved. My favorite thing became being wrapped in a cozy blanket and held while relaxing on the couch. That's when I discovered how comforting human affection can be.  I am still a bit shy when meeting new people and may take a moment before I come up to say hello, but once I feel safe, I turn into the sweetest girl who loves gentle pets and quiet cuddles. I just need someone patient who will give me a little time to blossom. I love being held and giving neck snuggles.  If  you have a calm home and a kind heart, I promise I will reward you with the  most loving companionship.    Now I’m ready for the next chapter - one where I’m someone’s special girl, not part of a program, but part of a family. Note:  A2R kitties are all sterilized, fully vaccinated (if old enough), socialized in private homes not a cattery, they usually receive high end cat food, probiotics, & regular health care.
