Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Gretel, a soulful Basset mix born on February 20, 2020. At six years old, she has perfected the art of being a relaxed, well-mannered house companion. Gretel is a professional lounger who is fully potty trained and knows exactly how to behave indoors. While she was adopted as a puppy, she recently returned to us after a misunderstanding with a small child. Because of this, Gretel is looking for an adult-only home where she can be the center of your world. She’s a "people person" who prefers to be your one-and-only pet—no other dogs needed when she has you! If you’re looking for a loyal, low-maintenance best friend to keep your sofa warm, Gretel is your girl. Story
Available in TX only! King is a one year old Basset Hound/Lab mix with a gentle soul and a laid back nature. He is still gaining confidence and can be scared of new things, especially loud noises, but once he feels safe he settles in nicely. When he gets excited he can be a little jumpy, though most of the time he is calm and easygoing. King truly enjoys running around the yard, going on walks, and soaking up outdoor time. He has a playful side and loves playing fetch with frisbees and balls. Tug of war is another favorite game, and he is a big fan of chew time. Knuckle bones, hard chew toys for power chewers, and anything he can safely gnaw on make him very happy. King is crate trained and house trained, which makes him an easy addition to a home. King does have a prey drive and enjoys chasing squirrels and frogs, and he will chase cats, so a cat free home is recommended. He also has a sensitive stomach and does best on sensitive stomach dog food. King would thrive in a patient, understanding home that will give him time to build confidence and continue showing him the world is a safe place. With love and consistency, he will be a loyal and loving companion. To apply directly for King, push the "Apply for Adoption" button. https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/FODS-A-751

Story
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. To see more pictures of this dog, please visit our Facebook page and look under “photos” and then “albums”. 9-month-old male Beagle/Chihuahua mix, about 10 pounds. Liberty and Honor were born at the rescue on 5/22/25 to momma Daisy, who was pulled from the Fresno shelter pregnant. Honor is timid at first but quickly becomes your best buddy. He like to be where the people are and will get anxious and vocal when alone. He is good with other dogs but would do fine being an only dog. He is a cuddle bug with adults but has been afraid of children. Not sure how he does with cats. He needs all the things puppies need; potty training, leash walking and further socialization! To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. To see more pictures of this dog, please visit our Facebook page and look under “photos” and then “albums”. Meet Momma Daisy 🌼🐾 6 years old | Chihuahua/Beagle-ish mix | 22 lbs of “big-boned beauty” Okay, okay… she’ll tell you it’s genetics. And technically, she’s not wrong 😉 But the truth is Daisy has hypothyroidism and is now on medication (for life), which means this sweet girl is already on her way to feeling healthier and slimming down. A little daily stroll and fewer snacks (she says rude) and she’ll be thriving! Daisy came to us from a California shelter very pregnant and delivered two adorable babies, Liberty and Honor. She’s done the hard work of motherhood and is officially ready to retire into a life of comfort, cuddles, and unconditional love. Personality-wise? She is not a mover and shaker. She’s more of a “lounger and snacker.” While she’ll happily go for a walk and even wrestle a bit with her kiddos, her favorite activities are: • Cuddling • Eating • Following her person around like a loyal little shadow She will pick her favorite human and glue herself to them. But if that person leaves? No problem — she’ll temporarily glue herself to someone else. She’s adaptable like that. Daisy is: ✔ Doing great on leash and starting to really enjoy walks ✔ Using the doggie door like a pro ✔ Likely to ignore a cat ✔ Fine with older kids ✔ Extremely sweet and affectionate This girl doesn’t ask for much. Just love, a comfy spot to nap, her daily meds, and someone to adore. In return, you get a devoted companion who will happily help you rack up your steps just by following you from room to room. If you’re ready for a loving, low-key best friend, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com to request an adoption application 💌🐶 Adoption contract and fee applies.
