You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lex is good with dogs, cats, and even chickens, but not a fan of the new crawling baby. Lex's family had loved him since he was a puppy but made the difficult decision to reach out to Southeast Beagle Rescue to find him a loving home. He has pleasantly suprised us with his vitality as he's still active enough to give squirrels a good chase and jumps for joy when he sees a leash... and he is pretty good on leash! He has enough energy to be fun but not so much that it's overwhelming. He's also shown us that he is able to handle new situations well. He was used to home-cooked meals (loves broccoli and oranges and of course chicken). He was also used to having a dog door where he could go in and out as he pleased. But he's learning to gradually enjoy a bit of kibble now and then and also to ask to go out and come back in. We would really like to see him in a home with a fenced yard and a dog door again though. Lex wants to be around his people and is often curious to see what they are doing, but he is not a velcro dog and doesn't get stressed when foster mom is out of his sight. He is however very vocal and will let you know quickly if someone is walking down street. Lex's que to crate up is 'Go home, Lex,' and he is comfortable sleeping in his crate at night. But one thing that's especially important to him is having his blanket. He loves putting his nose underneath it and sometimes covers himself almost completely. Lex is usually a confident dog and isn't bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, or loud noises. He's a smart boy and knows quite a few commands and tricks! He understands 'Sit,' 'Lay down,' 'Come here,' and 'Leave it.' He also knows 'High five' and 'Roll over.' One of his fun tricks is '1, 2, 3, catch!' He knows to get ready to catch something when he hears the countdown. Lex can have that beagle stubborn streak and does not like being pushed off of furniture. Instead when he needs to follow directions, he responds to a countdown of '5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and of course chicken. This gorgeous guy is fully vetted and ready to go on sleepover. He's a friendly boy who was dropped off at a Louisiana shelter as a stray and he is so happy to be in his foster home! Matty wants to hang out with his humans and be a part of whatever is going on. He loves to cuddle and will do anything for food, including stealing it when you aren’t looking. Housetraining is improving. He does well in a crate. Once his foster parents started feeding him in his crate and giving him treats there, he was eager to jump right in. He is mostly quiet, even in the crate. He doesn’t bark unless he's helping the other dogs defend the yard, but even then he is not the instigator. And Matty is good with other dogs, even if they bark and growl at him. He isn’t intimidated, he just keeps going. He loves stuffed toys but occasionally he will get hold of something that isn’t a toy. He is still learning that part of being in a house. If you want a true beagle, he is exactly what you're looking for. Matty was treated for heartworm in March. He is still full of exuberance and energy, but fortunately came to us with some good foundational training. In is foster home he has done excellent with house training and he is easy to crate. Benji is very responsive to his humans and checks in regularly - a very helpful trait. He seems to know the 'leave it' command pretty well, but to him 'sit' means 'lie down' which is actually kind of cute. Although he plays well with other dogs he still has a some learning to do regarding respectful behavior. But he's still just so young. He has the most gorgeous eyes and makes great eye contact. His coat is silky soft and his nose has the slightest little upturn at the end that gives him an elfish quality. Benji really would do best with a fenced yard because of his energy level and perhaps a wise and tolerant dog to teach him the ropes. Although if a family wanted to train him to go jogging that would be a great thing as well. He does sleep quietly in his crate in his foster mom's bedroom at night but would most likely make some noise when left alone. That would probably take some training as well and in his current foster home at least one family member is always home. Benji is like any puppy, a treasure to invest in but the payoff is a beautiful and rewarding relationship for the rest of his life. She is also very good with other dogs, both male and female, and gentle with cats. One cat she met bopped her on the nose and Colleen just rolled over on her back. :) She was seen being dumped from a car, but fortunately she was rescued and taken to a very good shelter. She has now settled in well in her Florida foster home. She has a moderate to low energy level, will occasionally play with toys and sometimes with other dogs. Although she likes her food, she is not super food motivated and a little crazy like some beagles can be. She also walks well on leash. Colleen will make someone the most calm, serene and loving companion. She tested positive for heartworms but has completed her treatment and ready for a sleepover. She adores being outside sniffing and running around, and inside she is just as much of an explorer, jumping on her little hind legs to see whatever is on the counter! Iris is not hugely food motivated oddly enough, she's just an investigator. And she loves toys -- squishy toys, ones that make noise, ones with crinkles in them. She likes to chew but has not destroyed or ripped any up. She is special in the way she loves to be near her humans. She is very lovey! Iris is also very friendly with new people and is thrilled when guests come over. If she is taken to a new environment though, it may take her a little time because, well she's just got to investigate before she's totally comfortable! She can be super energetic at times but also LOVES to snooze for extended periods of time. At night she sleeps in a crate in the bedroom. Her foster family is retired so currently Iris is never alone. In her previous foster home the family worked and she was crated sometimes for up to 8-9 hours. She was not particularly happy with the situation and was pretty vocal about it, so we have promised her that we will look for a family who is home much more of the time. Housetraining was also a previous issue, but with free access to a fenced yard via a dog door, Iris has been a full week with zero accidents. She has done very well with the large pack of dogs she is with currently, but previously exhibited some occasional bossiness with other dogs. We think this may come from inexperience and hope her current situation has improved her social skills, but she will need clear boundaries from her humans. Iris is admittedly not great on leash so we do recommend a fenced yard... or patient people who will train.
