He's a friendly boy who was dropped off at a Louisiana shelter as a stray and he is so happy to be in his foster home! Matty wants to hang out with his humans and be a part of whatever is going on. He loves to cuddle and will do anything for food, including stealing it when you aren’t looking. Housetraining is improving. He does well in a crate. Once his foster parents started feeding him in his crate and giving him treats there, he was eager to jump right in. He is mostly quiet, even in the crate. He doesn’t bark unless he's helping the other dogs defend the yard, but even then he is not the instigator. And Matty is good with other dogs, even if they bark and growl at him. He isn’t intimidated, he just keeps going. He loves stuffed toys but occasionally he will get hold of something that isn’t a toy. He is still learning that part of being in a house. If you want a true beagle, he is exactly what you're looking for. Matty was treated for heartworm in March. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ADOPTION PENDINGPeaches was a homeless beagle in an Alabama shelter. She looked sad and very skinny in her picture and we can tell that she was most likely used for breeding and has had many litters. She has put on some weight but we'd like her to put on a little more. There's no problem there because Peaches loves food and does a happy dance at every eating occasion. (Please see video below.) The couch is her favorite place to sleep and her foster mom loves to hear her snore. Other dogs really make peaches happy and she has done really great with the other dog in her foster home. They play well together and Peaches is very good at sharing her toys. We'd very much hope for another dog in her forever home. She has also been with a cat and showed no interest in bothering her, she does not seem to have any prey drive. She does enjoy meeting new people but can still be a little nervous and crouch down when they reach for her. Her foster mom had an opportunity to see her interact with children in the age range of 5 to 8. She was a bit nervous at the beginning but she loved the pats from them. Peaches is very good on leash and is currently doing well with house training, as long as she is taken outside regularly. Her foster mom has has rarely crated and only for about an hour with the door shut, but when they need to leave her alone she does fine in the kitchen behind a baby gate. She has her daily zoomies but otherwise Peaches has a pretty chill energy level. She does love to be outside and is confident and curious to explore. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ADOPTION PENDINGDani has the softest, most gentle eyes and Paired with her big beagle ears it is almost too much cuteness for such a small dog. She very much appreciates affection. She is submissive but is not needy and can be quite independent. She is currently in a foster home with one other dog and is submissive to him as well, but Dani is very food motivated so they are fed separately. At night she sleeps either on the couch, the bed or in a dog bed. She does like to snuggle and cuddle for a while, but then moves on. She may come back for more a while later. When foster mom and dad are showing affection to the other dog, Dani can get just a little pushy for her share, but only a little. She does appear to be mostly house trained, especially once the family became more familiar with her signals. She is fine outside but doesn't seem to thrive on it like some beagles, and her prey drive seems pretty much non-existent. Her leash walking skills are moderately good and she pays no mind to other dogs on walks. Dani's foster parents work outside the home so they initially crated her when they were gone. She seemed to tolerate it well and showed no anxiety at their leaving, so they tried leaving her out of the crate and it went fine. Both dogs are now routinely left at home alone together with free roam. Video cameras show them just lounging on the couch. However, the family is always careful to make sure there is no food she can get to -- including cabinets. When they return home Dani makes happy little grunts and squeaks. A home with a calm environment where she receives regular affection would be her best fit. She’s very precious, and there’s a soft, peaceful soul in her. He greets everyone he meets as his new best friend and charms them with his special beagle howl. We don't know about cats, but he loves other dogs and has no trouble sharing the human attention with the other beagle in his foster home. Chip also appears to be quite fond of children. He enjoys taking long walks and is learning to walk on a leash. He keeps his nose to the ground, making sure he doesn’t miss any important scents! He would probably love to be in a fenced yard but for now, walks are okay. At night, he sleeps in a crate and has done well with that -- no crying. He also eats his meals in his crate and when his foster family has to leave him at home alone for a couple of hours he is crated then as well. He does still have lots of energy so he probably wouldn’t be happy left at home in a crate all day. Chip is doing well with his potty training. He has only been in his foster home a short while and is on a structured and consistent schedule as his foster mom has not found his sign yet that he needs to go. Chip enjoys playing with toys and, although his energy level might be slightly above moderate, he does settle easily and enjoys long naps in his dog bed with his blanket. He is somewhat independent and does not seem needy, but he will sit on your lap and is happy to receive lots of scratches and pets. He does not jump on the furniture at all and has learned to sit when he wants a treat. Overall Chip is a very happy beagle boy who would do great in a home with children, other dogs or just a family of two. He appears able to handle things well when there’s a lot going on with dogs and children and people. He just jumps right in and is part of the action. She easily made friends with the other dog and was happy to meet new people. Her personality is very straightforward and low key. She is quite independent and not needy. Gemma was fostered for a few months in Mississippi and her foster there reported the same comfortable eadiness about her. We don’t know about Gemma with cats and kids, but she has been calm and companionable with other dogs. She does not appear to have a prey drive - squirrels and rabbits don’t interest her but she does like to play with toys and she is okay sharing her toys with other dogs. Gemma is very affectionate and enjoys snuggling and cuddling. If other dogs are getting attention, she does want in on the action, but is not pushy. Her house training has been excellent, and so far she has done just fine with being left alone for periods of time in a gated area. She’s very quiet and does not bark often, but when foster mom and dad return home, suggest a walk or she knows it is treat time, Gemma has the cutest little excited whine. Her foster mom has not crated Gemma and at night she sleeps on the couch. She does well on leash but she would love to have a fenced yard with trees and bushes where she could explore off leash so. She is also very good with other dogs, both male and female, and gentle with cats. One cat she met bopped her on the nose and Colleen just rolled over on her back. :) She was seen being dumped from a car, but fortunately she was rescued and taken to a very good shelter. She has now settled in well in her Florida foster home. She has a moderate to low energy level, will occasionally play with toys and sometimeswith other dogs. Although she likes her food, she is not super food motivated and a little crazy like some beagles can be. She also walks well on leash. Colleen will make someone the most calm, serene and loving companion. She tested positive for heartworms but has completed her treatment and ready for a sleepover.
