Story
Little Sprout is back with us after a trial adoption. He escaped his cage, he’s a destructive chewer, and he barks at people and dogs. Sprout is still a puppy and is going to need an adopter who can train him and turn him into a successful adult dog. We’re guessing Sprout is about six months old. He weighs 15 pounds and still has some growing to do. Sprout is so sweet and friendly and has his entire life ahead of him. If you’d like to add him to your family, let us know or stop by! He would love to meet your kids and dogs.

Story
Howdy from our handsome little swamp frog, Leroy! Give this guy a mud puddle to flop down in and he’s living his best life.Leroy is an older boy with a stubborn streak and plenty of personality to match. He’ll need a family that can set clear boundaries, especially when it comes to sneaking human food or handling his collar, which makes him uncomfortable. Because of this, we’re looking for a home with older teens or adults only.Despite his quirks, Leroy has a big fan club among our volunteers. He’s the kind of dog who forms strong bonds with his people and just needs someone patient, confident, and just as headstrong as he is to help him work through his food aggression and collar sensitivity. The good news? Leroy is open to meeting other dogs and even passed his cat test here at the pound! If you think you might be the right match for this muddy, bullheaded sweetheart, please stop by and spend some time with him. We’re more than happy to let you visit with Leroy as many times as it takes.

Story
💔 Tragedy has struck one of our adopter families, leaving this deeply bonded mother-daughter pair urgently in need of a new home.In January 2022, sweet Daisy came to us and delivered a litter of puppies in our care. She and one of her babies, Izzy, were adopted together—and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Izzy has always been a mama’s girl. This week, their world was turned upside down. The woman who gave them a loving home was tragically killed in a car accident. 💔 Her family can’t keep the dogs and has asked us to take them back. Now Daisy and Izzy need someone to give them a second chance—together, if at all possible.🐶 Izzy is the perfect girl:✔️ Great with kids✔️ Good with cats and dogs✔️ Loving and easygoing🐕‍🦺 Daisy (the mama) is more sensitive:She’s fearful of strangers and takes time to warm up.She is not aggressive, but has occasionally nipped when scared. She needs a calm, patient home that will let her adjust at her own pace.We know it’s a hard time for dogs needing homes. But we also know there’s someone out there who can offer these girls the stability and love they’ve lost.🙏 Please consider opening your heart and your home to Izzy and Daisy—whether through adoption or foster care. You can apply at ricopetrecovery.org.

Story
Nutmeg’s story started when our team recovered her in the middle of nowhere. She had been abandoned and was clearly not a dog that showed signs of being loved. Now, she’s slowly discovering that humans can be safe, and full of ear scratches (which she has decided are absolutely the best thing ever). She’s still learning how to “dog,” and new things can feel scary at first. Nutmeg is a flight risk and will always need a secure harness and leash outside, even in a fenced yard for a while. She needs time to decompress, build trust, and move at her own pace. But once you’re in her circle? She falls in love. The shy little girl who once avoided people starts seeking you out for affection, quiet companionship, and those magical ear scratches.Nutmeg is wonderful with dogs and cats of all sizes in her foster home. In fact Nutmeg needs to be placed in a family with another calm well balanced dog who can show her how to be a pet and trust humans. She would do best with a patient, understanding family willing to let her blossom in her own time. Nutmeg is scared of people moving fast and of loud noises. For this reason we do not recommend Nutmeg for a family with children. She would do best in a family with adults or teens and in a quiet household without a lot of visitors. She is about a year old and 16 pounds. You can apply to meet her at ricopetrecovery.org.  Adoption fee is $350
