Story
To be fair, Chonk had a different name when she came to us, but we changed it because it seemed a bit offensive to her.Sure, she is large, big and beautiful and she may waddle a bit - but that is her charm. She is also a bit cautious about things in the beginning, but, that too, is part of her charm. What we have discovered in the short time she and her two buddies have been with us is that she is a princess - our padded princess. When she is out with them, she doesn't have to be the life of the party or run all around. When she walks (sometimes quickly) from point A to point B, we all notice her.Chonk has a sly regalness about her - she will walk by you and as soon as she passes by, you do a double-take. Her eyes are gorgeous, her tongue is oddly long and you think, wait a minute, I need to give you a ton of attention because you are amazing!Chonk is 3-years-old and weighs a very slim 42lbs. Her Dad passed away and she and he her buddies are looking for their new homes. If you want to add some spice to your life, some royalty and some slow-paced fun, please come meet the amazing Chonk! She is a charmer and she deserves the best rest of her life!Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. Open every day between 9AM and noon!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Pippy arrived at Animal Aid Society with a tiny stuffed toy.The next morning, when I brought her breakfast, she greeted me proudly carrying it in her mouth, then walked beside me all the way to her apartment while I put down her food. Pippy is a Beagle, which means she considers breakfast less of a meal than a sacred event, and at a chonky 21 pounds she's carrying a little more Beagle than nature originally intended. She wanted that breakfast very badly. But, she also wanted to keep hold of her baby. She actually tried to eat without putting the stuffed toy down.I don't know what happened to Pippy before she came to us, and I don't need to. Watching a little dog try to solve the engineering problem of eating breakfast while hanging onto the only thing that made her feel secure told me enough.Pippy is about six years old and may be the sweetest, gentlest dog I've ever met. When you reach down to pet her, she instinctively crouches, as though she's trying to decide whether this hand is going to hurt her or be kind. When the hand lands softly, her whole body relaxes, her tail starts wagging, and her expression changes completely. It's impossible to watch without wondering how many times kindness lost that contest before it finally started winning. The shelter volunteers, being highly trained for these situations, responded exactly as you'd expect. We started bringing her more babies.Pippy now has an impressive collection of little stuffed toys. She carefully carries them around, proudly shows them to anyone willing to admire them, keeps them together, and treats them with astonishing tenderness. Somewhere along the way, something else changed, too. She now gently sets her baby down before she eats because she's beginning to believe it will still be there when she's finished. That may not sound like much, but around here we know better. Trust doesn't arrive all at once. Sometimes it shows up disguised as a little Beagle deciding it's safe to let go of a stuffed toy for five minutes.Pippy would love to meet you and show you her stuffies at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends and holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Meet Gale! Gale is a 4-year-old Beagle with a loving heart and a strong devotion to her people. Originally arriving at the shelter as a stray, she was later adopted but has found herself searching for a new home once again. This sweet girl forms deep bonds with her family and loves spending quality time with the people she trusts. Once you`re part of Gale`s inner circle, you`ll have a loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side.Gale`s previous family reported that she became uncomfortable when visitors entered the home and displayed protective behaviors. While she was never aggressive toward her family, she did show signs of guarding her home and the people she loves. She has also nipped at family members in the past, though these incidents did not break skin.Because of this, Gale is looking for a home that can provide structure, management, and an understanding of her boundaries. If you`re seeking a smaller dog with guardian instincts, Gale may be exactly what you`re looking for. She thrives when she knows who her people are and what is expected of her. While she has been noted to do well with children, we believe Gale would be happiest in a home with older children who can better understand and respect her space, particularly when visitors are coming and going.Gale is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. She simply needs a family willing to appreciate her loyal nature and help her feel secure. In return, you`ll gain a devoted companion who will be your biggest fan and closest friend. If you`re looking for a faithful sidekick who bonds deeply with her people, come meet Gale and see if she`s the missing piece of your family.

Story
Meet Bailey, a gentle, sweet girl looking for a patient home where she can build her confidence. While she can be a little nervous in new situations, Bailey is happy to greet people and truly starts to relax once she`s outside, where she loves exploring the world one sniff at a time. She may need a little encouragement for walks and can be shy with unfamiliar people, but with kindness and patience, her loving personality has the chance to shine. She appears to do well with other dogs, though she has not yet been formally evaluated with other animals or children. If you have a calm home and a big heart, Bailey could be the loyal companion you`ve been looking for.
