Hi, I`m Poochie! Here in my cozy shelter, I`ve made lots of friends, but I`m still a bit shy. I love being sweet and friendly once I warm up to new faces. I really enjoy playing with my toys, and I must admit, I`m quite protective of them! They`re my little treasures. Spending time with people who care makes my tail wag with joy. If you`re looking for a loyal friend who loves a gentle pat and a quiet corner to relax, I`m your girl. Adopting me means gaining a forever friend who cherishes every moment with you.

Story
They are so tiny we had to split “itty-bitty” into two names.Meet Itty and Bitty - two-year-old pocket-sized Beagles ready to fill your heart to bursting.Itty (male) and Bitty (female) came from an overcrowded rural shelter. Their past isn’t known, but its shadow is dark. They shy away from people, and when cornered, they crouch low as if expecting the worst. But as our Beagle fans know - NOTHING can keep a Beagle down! Beagles are joy, curiosity, comic timing, love and loyalty, topped off with floppy ears. With patience and safety, Itty and Bitty's sparks will catch.Itty and Bitty are NOT BONDED and can be adopted separately. Each feels most at ease with other dogs, so a steady “helper pup” could make their transition easier. Itty is heartworm-positive, but Animal Aid covers all treatment costs, even after adoption.Come meet them and see what we see: two tiny souls ready to learn that life can be safe, people can be kind, and home can be forever.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. Visiting hours are 9am to noon daily, including weekends and holidays.*Needs a home with a securely fenced yard.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Just a short time ago, they were chasing a trash truck together. A kind lady got them out of the street and took them to Sussex for safety. And now, we are able to welcome them to our shelter so that we can find them each their forever homes! We know for certain that they each need their own home. They survived together on the streets and then they roomed together at Sussex, but it seems once they got some more space and their own runs with us, they realized they preferred to be "next" to each other but not "with" each other.Alex and Marty are four-year-old beagles who are each adorable in their own way. They are just a smidge shy but quickly warm up to people once they realize you want to touch them in a kind way, not a harmful way.Alex is the tricolor/blue tick sweet boy - he is heartworm positive and has already started treatment (which is fully covered by AAS).Marty is the tricolor charming boy and just had ear infections.Alex and Marty seem visibly relieved to be with us but also surprised that people want to love them. They look at us as if to say, wait, you want to be nice to us? And once you start to pet them, they melt right into you. Please come meet Alex and Marty - let's celebrate their smartness of working together to survive and their quest now to just be friends from a distance, never forgetting each needed the other to survive.Come meet Alex & Marty at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton VA. Story
Meet Lucy! Lucy is a sweet, affectionate girl who is looking for a new beginning after spending many years in a home. Changes in her family’s circumstances over time have made it difficult for them to give Lucy the quality of life she deserves, and they made the difficult but loving decision to help her find a home better suited to her needs. Lucy is a 10 year old, spayed Beagle weighing 29lbs. She does well with other dogs and kids of all ages. Lucy is very food motivated and she enjoys structure and routine. She loves cuddles, playing fetch with a ball or stick, and running. Lucy is sensitive to thunder and loud noises and does best with comfort and reassurance during storms. She enjoys being close to her people and is known to happily sleep under blankets. Lucy loves doggy daycare and is everyone’s best friend. Lucy will need time to acclimate to her new home and expectations. Her new family must understand that she is a lifetime commitment and be willing to provide daily exercise, continued training, and lots of love. If you are interested in adoption, DO NOT CALL; please complete an application https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/21800/generic. We verify the care of past/current pets. Our goal is to find the very best home for all our dogs and cats, and therefore we reserve the right to approve or deny an application based on what we determine is in the pet’s best interest.

Story
Squiggy is a lovable little 2-year old beagle who wants to be loved. He wants to be with you wherever you are. He warmed up to his foster parents pretty quickly, and is warming up to the other foster dog in the home. Once he gets to know you his tail wags non-stop. He has lived with other dogs and got along with them, but he is a little jealous of the other foster dog in his new home, especially if he is on the couch with his foster mom and the dog approaches, but he is getting better. They do sleep together now and he is starting to play with her. Squiggy was a hunting dog who probably was not a good hunter. He is not used to loud noises like traffic, garbage trucks, construction, etc. He does OK on the leash but is a little fearful of being outside because of the noises so he needs secure leashing. He isn't 100% housebroken yet, partly due to his fear of the noises outside, but he can go overnight or for hours without a bathroom break. But he will go out to do his business when he is ready. So far only one accident. Squiggy gained a lot of weight at the shelter, so he will need to lose close to 10 pounds. We have started working with him but whoever adopts him will need to continue to work on the weight loss. He is healthy, vaccinated, and HW negative. Surprisingly, not a fast eater and takes a while to start and finish eating, although he will whine and growl a little if the other foster dog approaches him while he is eating. He will just need time to get used to being a city pet. He will be a great pet for someone he can give all his love to. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org
