Duchess was in a small, high kill shelter when we came across her information. Her eyes were so infected she couldn’t open them and the shelter had posted her as being blind. Our vet discovered that Duchess doesn’t produce tears and the chronic dry eye had been untreated so long her corneas were damaged and infected. This sweet girl was so shut down initially she had to remember what a special dog she is. We are trying our best to save her eyes, she gets 2 types of medicated drops twice a day and artificial tears as often as possible. She’s learned to let her foster clean her eyes and is good about getting her drops. She’s able to see now although not as well as we hope she can as we progress. She will need eye drops ongoing. Duchess now plays with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys running around her yard. Her very favorite thing is getting attention and spending time with her humans. She just wants to totally devote herself to her human and take care of her family. This girl is a wonderful Doberman and an ambassador for the breed.She is house trained, can use a doggie door or ask to go outside if she doesn't have one. She is fine being left home alone or with her canine friends but would rather go wherever her human is going. She’s great going for rides and would be the perfect travel companion. Duchess is fully vetted - current with vaccines, spayed, on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and is microchipped.

Rocky is a sweet, playful pup who loves fetch and cuddles. He had a rough start in life due to his birth defect that left his hind legs paralyzed. Despite his difficulties, he definitely knows how to enjoy life to the fullest! He doesn’t know he is any different than his foster brothers and makes friends with everyone he meets. He loves kids, cats and dogs and never meets a stranger. His hobbies include running outside in his wheelchair and playing inside in his scooter. His care usually consists of snapping him into his mobility devices and letting him go. He wears belly bands inside since his bladder control is slightly limited due to the paralysis. Luckily, aside from this he is house trained and tells you when he needs to go potty. His temperament is very calm for a puppy, though he will experience the zoomies on occasion and burn some rubber in the yard! If you feel your home might be the right place for this wonderful dog, the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Hannah is a 3.5 year old, 93 lb Rottie/Dobie mix. Please don't let the breed mix concern you. Hannah is a is a big, beautiful, friendly, happy, sweetheart of a dog! Hannah was in a happy home, but her person was transferred overseas, and he couldn't take her with him. We promised him that we would find a wonderful home for Hannah. She is settling in very nicely at her foster home. She gets along great with other large dogs, but maybe not so much with very small dogs. She could easily be an only dog, too. Hannah loves her people, and would do best in a home where her people are not gone for long periods of time. She has excellent leash manners and would make a great walking, running or hiking partner. She also loves squeaky toys, belly rubs, and her big comfy bed. She loves to chase tennis balls and will actually bring them back.....sometimes. Meet Scrappy Doo! He is a two-year-old, 20 lb. Red Min Pin mix who is looking for his forever home after having a rough start in life. Scrappy was living outside and not given proper care, but his owners willingly surrendered him so he could find a better life.  This guy is a bundle of fun and energy.  He's looking for a person to adore (probably a woman) who will adore him back, laugh at his antics, and enjoy his companionship.   Scrappy is great with kids and is fine with other dogs, although he rarely plays with them.  He is house-trained and even uses a dog door independently.  He interacts with all the humans in his foster home but picks one to be his main squeeze.  Scrappy enjoys lap time and snuggles, but also enjoys some independence and will nap on comfy dog beds.  He dotes on his person and loves being held after coming inside from the cold.  He's very well mannered in general and has learned some basic commands like 'sit' and 'stay.'   He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.  Unfortunately, Scrappy tested positive for heartworms and is being treated with a slow kill method because the infection is advanced.  There is risk of developing heart failure, but also a chance he will have a good lifespan.   When this sweet boy came to LHS he was in bad shape and needed extensive care for his diagnostics and treatment to stabilize him. It was determined that he will need to be on medication for the course of his life - $25 a month - to keep his heart strong.
