Story
Meet Gunner ❤️ Gunner is a handsome 7-year-old Belgian Malinois/Husky mix who is sadly searching for a new home due to a change within his family. Having been adopted as a young puppy at just 2 months old, Gunner has spent nearly his entire life with the same family after being rescued alongside his six siblings through BTBPR. This transition will be a major adjustment for him, and we are committed to finding him a loving, stable home where he can feel safe, secure, and cherished once again. Gunner is an incredibly friendly and affectionate dog who loves people of all ages, including babies and children. He has been raised in a home with another dog and a cat and has done well with them throughout his life. He enjoys being close to his people and is happiest when included as part of the family. While Gunner loves to snuggle and relax with his humans, he also has an active side and will need a family that can provide regular exercise and mental stimulation. He enjoys walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures, though he would benefit from additional leash training to help him become more polished on walks. An active household that understands the needs of his breed mix would be ideal for him. As Gunner adjusts to losing the only home and companions he has ever known — including his humans, children, dog, and cat friends — patience and time to decompress will be very important. He deserves a family willing to help him through this transition with understanding, consistency, and love. If you believe Gunner may be a good fit for your home, please fill out an adoption application so we can arrange a meet and greet. A home check is required prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $125. Let’s help Gunner find the forever home he deserves — one filled with love, stability, and plenty of adventures. June 1, 2026, 9:42 am

Story
Hi… I’m KK. And I’ve been waiting for you. I may look like a strong, confident Belgian Malinois—and I am—but my story didn’t start the way it should have. Not long ago, I was found in a broken-down car on the side of the road. The windows were rolled up, and I wasn’t alone. I had three tiny puppies with me… my babies. I didn’t know where my human went, and I didn’t know why we were left there. All I knew was that I had to protect them. I was scared, tired, and fiercely determined to keep my puppies safe. When people came close, I didn’t understand their intentions, so I made it very clear: no one was getting near my babies. It took time—and patience—for the right people to safely help us. But eventually, they did. They got us out of that car and into safety. We were taken to animal control, and from there, I was given something I hadn’t had in a long time—a chance. Central Arizona Animal Rescue welcomed me and gave me a quiet, safe place to raise my puppies. I got to be a mom the way I was meant to be. And I did it. I raised them, protected them, and watched them grow strong. One by one, they each found their forever homes. Now… it’s my turn. I’m about a year and a half old—still just a young girl, really. I’ve been spayed (so no more puppies for me), I’m fully vaccinated, and I even have a microchip to help make sure I never get lost again. I’m ready to go home today. But I want to be honest with you. I’m a Belgian Malinois, and that means I have a LOT of energy. My body wants to move, my brain wants to work, and my heart wants to connect—but I never really learned how. No one ever taught me how to play ball, or what toys are, or how to channel all this energy into something fun. I want to interact with people… I just don’t quite know how yet. With patience, training, and love, I know I can learn. I want to learn. Right now, I share a kennel with a male dog my size, and we get along well. But little animals? Cats? Tiny dogs? I’m not sure about them, and my breed tends to have a strong prey drive. It’s safest if I go to a home with dogs around my size. And kids? I don’t mean to be too much—I just am too much right now. I’m still learning how to control my excitement, so I need a home without small children for the time being. What I truly need is someone experienced—someone who understands high-energy dogs like me and is willing to guide me, train me, and give me structure. In return, I’ll give you loyalty, intelligence, and a bond like no other. I’ve survived uncertainty. I’ve raised my babies. I’ve proven I’m strong. Now I’m ready to learn how to be yours. If you think you might be the one who can give me the life I’ve been waiting for, please reach out. I’m here, waiting, hopeful, and ready to begin again. Story
Meet Grover: Your Loyal, Larger-Than-Life Best Friend Are you looking for a dog with personality, heart, and a whole lot of potential? Meet Grover—a handsome Malinois mix who has been patiently waiting at Central Arizona Animal Rescue for two and a half years for someone to finally call his own. That’s far too long for a dog with so much love to give. When Grover first arrived, he was a leaner, smaller guy with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Life in a kennel hasn’t exactly suited his active nature, though. With limited exercise, a few too many treats, and long days of lounging, Grover has packed on some extra pounds. But don’t let that fool you—underneath that fluff is a dog who’s ready to get back into shape with the help of a committed adopter. He just needs someone willing to take him on daily walks, encourage active play, and keep him on a healthy routine. Grover is wonderful with people and truly enjoys human companionship. He craves attention and isn’t shy about seeking it out! In fact, he’s learned to use his size and weight to gently (or not-so-gently!) push his way into getting what he wants—whether that’s pets, treats, or your spot on the couch. Because of this, Grover will thrive best with an owner who can be confident and consistent, setting clear boundaries and sticking to them. He’s a smart boy who quickly picks up on whether you mean what you say, so a firm but loving approach will help him become the well-mannered companion he’s meant to be. Grover does get along with other dogs his size and can enjoy canine companionship—but there’s one important condition: no food around. Grover prefers not to share his meals or treats, so feeding time should be managed separately. With proper structure, he can do just fine in a home with another compatible dog. He already knows a few basic commands, which is a great start! However, Grover has a bit of a stubborn streak—he’ll follow through when he believes you’re serious, but if he thinks he can get away with ignoring you, he just might try. This makes him a great candidate for continued training, which will not only strengthen your bond but also help him become more focused and obedient. With patience and consistency, Grover will shine. One of Grover’s favorite ways to beat the Arizona heat is splashing around in a water tub. He loves cooling off and isn’t above enjoying a good mud bath every now and then, so be prepared for a dog who embraces life with a little bit of mess and a lot of joy! Grover is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and microchipped—he’s completely ready to go home. What he needs now is someone willing to see past the extra pounds and occasional stubbornness to recognize the loyal, loving companion waiting underneath. If you have experience with strong, intelligent dogs—or are ready to step up and provide the structure and care he needs—Grover could be your perfect match. He’s been overlooked for far too long, but the right home could change everything for him. Give Grover the second chance he deserves. To meet Grover, please email mike@caaronline.org to schedule an appointment. PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
I initially got Rocky with my ex from Craigslist. He’s genuinely such a sweet dog, but I don’t have the time to put into training him. I’m constantly working and always feel guilty for not devoting more time to him. He’s 2 years old, and is really apprehensive to new people. It takes him a while to trust humans and animals. He has a tendency to jump up on you when you get home. He has so much energy and loves to play! He just needs someone with a lot of time on their hands to train him the way he needs.

Story
✨ Meet Rhea ✨ Rhea is an 8-year-old sweetheart with the softest soul. She’s kennel trained, loves to cuddle, and is happiest when she’s relaxing by your side. 💕 She does have a little sassy side (adds to her charm 😉), but overall she’s very laid back and easygoing. Rhea is great with kids, though she can get a bit nervous in busy, high-energy environments. Because of that, she would thrive best in a calm home—ideally as the only dog—with a quieter household, like an older couple looking for a loving companion. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal cuddle buddy, Rhea might just be your perfect match. (602) 999-7256 free to good home but application and home check required
