She was 9 months old when we saved her and her sister from a high-kill shelter in LA. They were the tiniest dogs we'd ever seen. They were like real-life stuffed animals. When Pumpkin first arrived, she was only 24 lbs at 9 months old! She was so shut down, avoiding eye contact for the fear of being noticed, and moved like a shadow, silent and scared. But even then, there was a spark in her eyes, a tiny ember of hope. Now, at ruffly 1 y/o, this Malinois mix who had only learned that the world was a scary place is now thriving in her foster home. With time, patience, and the gentle guidance of her foster fur siblings, Pumpkin is learning what it means to feel safe. She’s learning that hands can offer LUV, that voices can be kind, and that not all humans are to be feared. Her progress is nothing short of remarkable—day by day, step by step, she’s beginning to let LUV in. Pumpkin LUVS other dogs. They are her comfort zone. Her role models and her security blankets. Dog Day Out notes from last week: Today, I was so happy to get out of my kennel! I got to put on a collar and harness, and I got to go in a car!! I love the car! I wanted to help drive, but my new friends said I should eat cookies instead, so I looked out the window. I love going for walks! We walked a long way! I wanted to be in front, but my friends would stop, so I got to give them snuggles when they did that – I like snuggles more than cookies! We saw so many things! People and dogs and lots and lots of bikes! I don't worry about those things though, I have my friends! I almost tried to catch a squirrel, but it got away. That's okay; I gave more snuggles to my friends! Oh! And on the way back, I took a nap – I loved the quiet time. Three Words to Describe Me are affectionate – snuggly - and friendly. Notes from My Walker: Traviesa is such a delight! She pulls on the leash, but it seems like she just never got a chance to learn how to walk on a leash before. She did amazing on the busy trail – we saw bikes, walkers, and dogs, and she was non-reactive to almost everything. The small, barky dog got her attention, but he started talking first, and she displayed interest, with no reactive lunging or barking. She is not a cookie girl, but she LOVES to snuggle. We love it when dogs on the trail check in with their human friends, but Traviesa was at another level; she would stop and lean in for a hug before continuing the walk! She is a sweet, gentle, loving dog who deserves a home that will let her learn and give her the chance to be a fantastic companion dog.

Smokey is a gorgeous 5-year-old German Shepherd — smart, loyal, affectionate, and so ready to be loved.This handsome boy has so much heart. He wants connection deeply and is looking for a person of his own who will help him feel secure, loved, and understood. It doesn’t take long before his tender side shines through. He is wonderfully affectionate and has a way of melting into pets, leaning in close, flopping down for a belly rub, and soaking up every bit of love he can get. He is eager to engage, learn, play, and be part of your life.He is a bright, food-motivated dog who enjoys training and learns quickly. He already knows sit and paw/shake, seems familiar with down, and even started to crawl when guided with a treat. He enjoys tug, chewing on toys or a bully stick, and will even join in for a short game of fetch. On leash, he is generally easy to walk, with some occasional pulling when an interesting smell catches his attention. Like many shepherds, he is alert to movement and can be reactive to passing bikes, so he will do best with someone who can continue positive, consistent leash work and help him build confidence around triggers. He rides well in a car but gets very excited when it is time to get out of the car, so a tie-down or secure car setup is recommended for safe outings. This beautiful boy is loving, intelligent, playful, and deeply affectionate. He is not just looking for a home; he is looking for someone to belong to. With structure, patience, and a person who sees his potential, he has all the makings of a devoted companion who will reward your love many times over.
