Story
Marty Marschin is a 10-month-old, 16 lb Bichon Frise / Poodle mix full of love. Marty's journey to Shelter Hope began when she was found wandering alone in a neighborhood in South Los Angeles, spending two days hanging around a resident's home. Concerned for her safety, the homeowner posted her on Nextdoor and PawBoost. She had no collar or microchip. Despite their best efforts to find her family, no one came forward to claim her. A local rescuer saw her post and reached out to us to help find sweet Marty the forever home she deserves. This joyful girl is affectionate, gentle, and incredibly trusting. Marty loves being close to her people and is happiest curled up in your arms or resting in your lap while soaking up pets and attention. She is communicative, eager to connect, and has a wonderful mix of puppy curiosity and cuddles. Marty gets along well with other dogs and enjoys making new friends. She approaches life with enthusiasm, happiness, and a playful spirit that makes her a joy to be around. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Marty is looking for a forever family that will cherish her sweet nature and give her the happy ending she deserves! --- Looking to Adopt? Story
Meet our absolutely perfect girl, Pebbles! She is an approx 8/9 year old, 21lb, Bichon/Poodle mix that is THE sweetest dog ever! Pebble came to our rescue in 2021 when we saved her from a local shelter where she was brought in with a leg injury and was at risk of being euthanized. We got Pebbles out and straight to our vet where they did an FHO surgery on her leg and have her a couple months of recovery, she was good as new! Pebbles was adopted a few years ago and late last year her owner surrendered her back to us due to personal reasons. We are looking for a forever home for our sweet girl that has another nice and playful dog. Once Pebbles warms up, she will initiate play and loves to run around and chase her dog friends. She is such a good dog all around. She is calm, mellow, playful, happy, and so loving! Her favorite thing is belly rubs! We are looking for a home that has owners that are not gone long hours during the day and has a safe/secure backyard. She absolutely loves to lay outside in the sun, especially on the grass or dirt..lol! Pebbles has been through a lot in the last few years and deserves the best forever home out there! Pebbles is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Please contact us at gina@theforgottendog.org or 310-990-2020 We only adopt in So Calif as an in person meet/greet, home check, and trial period are required.

Story
🖤 Meet Onyx 🖤 At just 2 years old, Onyx has already overcome more than any dog should have to. Onyx came to our rescue from another rescue that was quietly shutting down. The dogs we received were living in heartbreaking conditions—covered in urine and feces, with severely overgrown nails and little to no proper care. Despite everything she endured, Onyx’s spirit remains bright, loving, and full of joy. When Onyx was a puppy, she suffered an injury that was never treated. As a result, one of her legs never developed properly, and the muscles became completely atrophied. The leg is noticeably smaller than her others, but the good news is that she still has some use of it, gets around remarkably well, and it does not cause her pain. After consulting with veterinarians, it was decided that amputation was not necessary. In fact, Onyx gets around so well that she currently walks 3–4 city blocks before hopping into a stroller for a short rest, then happily gets back out and walks another 2–3 blocks. Don’t let her special needs fool you—Onyx loves to play! She is dog-friendly, enjoys romping around with her canine friends, and keeps up surprisingly well despite her bad leg. She also has the cutest little underbite that makes her impossible not to fall in love with. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to find the forever family she has always deserved. All she wants is a safe home, a soft bed, and people who will love her for the incredible dog she is. Could you be the happy ending to Onyx’s story? 🐾

Story
Indiana Bones is a 2-year-old, 14 lb Terrier–Shih Tzu mix. He was surrendered from a home in LA where he had been living outside in their backyard. When he arrived, he was filthy, covered in fleas, and his hair was badly overgrown, but despite his rough condition, he remained incredibly friendly, happy, and full of love. Since then, he’s cleaned up beautifully. A big thank you to the Indiana Bones and the Temple of Groom (yes, that’s really the groomer’s name!) for helping him shine. Indiana is confident, easygoing, and cheerful, with a true happy-go-lucky personality. He lights up when he sees people and is always ready to say hello and soak up attention. He loves to play and really enjoys running around the backyard, taking in everything with curiosity and excitement. He’s very people-oriented, sweet, and affectionate, and he gets along well with kids and other dogs. Indiana is also highly food motivated and absolutely loves treats. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Indiana Bones is ready to embark on his most important expedition yet: finding his forever home!! ---- Looking to Adopt? Story
Xander was found locked inside a cage on the side of a freeway with two other dogs. Likely hundreds of people drove by and did nothing, but one kind woman stopped to help. Her name is Anna and we thank her for saving their lives. They had no tags or microchips. We don't know exactly how long they were out there, but by the looks of it, it was likely several days. They had no food or water. Their paws were so caked in dried poop that they were stuck to the metal cage and couldn't move. Now they are safe and thriving at Shelter Hope. We named them Xander, Buffy, and Angel! Xander is an 8 y/o Shih-Poo weighing about 10 pounds. Of the three, he was in the roughest shape. His fur was severely matted and filthy, and he was limping. We also took him in for a dental, and they had to remove 5 of his teeth. He has arthritis in his back legs, but it hasn’t dampened his joyful spirit. He is incredibly sweet, playful, and happy, with a calm, easygoing personality. Xander gets along well with other dogs, is friendly, and is truly a pleasure to be around, despite everything he has endured. Now neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption, Xander is looking for a forever home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and cherished just as he deserves! More from his foster: Xander is not a shy pup. He immediately felt comfortable around my other two boy dogs and made himself at home by laying on all three of the beds that are in the living room. Considering the conditions he was found in he is not aggressive at all. I was able to brush out some of his knots, and he did not react to the brushing. He gets around just fine around the home. Enjoys our long walks in a sling bag. He loves relaxing in the cool grass and even rolls around in it if he has the urge. And boy does he have an appetite! She eats his food with no problem, even though he just lost some teeth. He would be a great addition to any home that wants a chill dog! ------ Looking to Adopt?
