Say hello to Nita, an adorable little Bichon Frise who is ready to find a loving family to call her own…and a lap to claim forever. Nita is an absolute sweetheart who loves snuggles, attention, and being close to her people. She’s the definition of a perfect lap dog and will happily supervise your TV time, work-from-home life, and snack breaks with expert-level cuteness. She also gets along great with other dogs.     Now, Nita does have one important request:  She’s a petite lady who prefers her affection to be respectful and on her terms. Because of this, she’ll do best in a dog savvy home with no small children, as sudden grabbing or being handled when she’s not comfortable can make her a little nippy. (Basically, she’s sweet as sugar… but she’s not a fan of surprise hugs.)      If you’re looking for a gentle, fluffy companion who will adore you endlessly, Nita may be your perfect match. Could she be yours?  Apply today! Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Carti: A Gentle Soul Looking for Her Person Carti is a sweet, shy, and sensitive girl who is looking for a calm, loving home where she can truly feel safe and secure. She was adopted from a rescue in Fredericksburg, VA and previously lived on an Amish farm in Ohio, so her early life was very quiet and sheltered. Because of this, she can be timid and unsure in new environments, especially around loud or unfamiliar sounds. With time, patience, and consistency, she has made beautiful progress and continues to grow more confident. Carti bonds deeply with kind, gentle humans. While she is not overly cuddly, she shows her love in her own special ways—getting excited when her person comes home, staying close by, and seeking reassurance. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly loyal and sweet. She does best in a quiet home with one person or a couple, rather than a busy family. She prefers being the only dog and feels most comfortable in calm, predictable environments.

Story
Hi, I'm Max and I hail from Texas. Just to let you know, if you've ever heard the phrase "age is just a number", well, it is definitely true. While I am a senior gentleman, I am definitely medium energy and would enjoy a good long walk or two a day. I do fine on leash, appear to be housetrained, and don't mind my crate. In general, I am very confident and friendly with people and other dogs, but I've never been cat tested, my foster thinks I may be a "chaser". Not to harm one, but they might be fun to play with. As for dogs, I prefer a slower introduction, as sometimes I will growl a bit before getting comfortable with my playmates. So, if you are ready for a little senior spunk in your life, apply today - btw, I am not a barker, so would be apartment/Townhome friendly! Hatton Animal Rescue spends significantly more on each dog than the adoption fee covers; please consider making a tax-deductible donation by visiting us at https://www.hattonanimalrescue.org/sponsor. Donations help us offset vetting, boarding costs, and additional medical treatments for dogs who need it. For more information on Hatton Animal Rescue, visit our website at: hattonanimalrescue.org.

Holly's guardian describes her as: Playful Shy Small dog friendly Affectionate Fearful of toddlers, children, and big dogs Independent Crate-Trained Holly's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "Holly needs experienced owners that are sensitive to her needs and will be patient and understanding with her.  She will be great in a house with a small dog so she can borrow from their confidence.  A couple or family who would adore her." Story
He is kind and very playful. He loves toys and is friendly and very independent. He likes to cuddle under the sheets. Obi has a one-year-old Yorkiechon brother who have never been apart since the day they were born. They are deeply bonded — play together, protect one another, and truly find comfort in each other’s presence. Because of this bond, separating them would break their hearts. They are incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loving dogs with gentle souls and lots of energy. Watching them interact, you can see how much they rely on each other — it’s not just companionship, it’s family. Both boys completed two weeks of OFF LEASH K9 training, and they did very well. Like any training, it must be consistently reinforced at home to be successful long-term. They will thrive with an adopter who understands that training is an ongoing commitment and is happy to continue working with them—particularly if they choose to keep them together.

Story
Meet Harlee! This small, scruffy gentleman arrived one morning believing his people would be back any minute now, but as he waited, the truth settled in around him. They wouldn’t be returning, but maybe this place wasn’t so bad. Harlee is has a tentative sweetness and a body carrying a few extra pounds from a life that once had more routine than it does now. He absolutely loves being pet and snuggling with his humans - he's happiest curled up in a lap. He is neutered, housebroken, polite on leash, gentle with the other dogs, and familiar with the quiet presence of cats. He gets the occasional zoomies - complete with play bows! - and it's beautiful to watch him fly around with joy. Harlee is approximately 13 years old and X lbs. Story
Meet Darlene! This tiny Shih Tzu girl was found starving to death locked in an abandoned home in DC alongside another dog. Darlene survived, but her friend - the other dog did not. Fortunately, she made her way to Miri's Haven and is thriving in recovery. Darlene is steadily gaining weight and slowly, tenderly coming out of her shell. Watching her figure out that the world can be kind has been such a sweet thing to witness. Darlene absolutely loves food and attention. If her foster mom is petting one of the other dogs, she will sprint over like the annoying little sibling who must IMMEDIATELY be included. We’re working on “wait your turn,” which she believes is a federal crime. House training is coming along well, and while she has a bit of separation anxiety it's very understandable for a girl who was previously abandoned the way she was. Every week she softens a little more. Every day she trusts a little deeper. She is blossoming in her own tiny, hilarious, determined way. Darlene is approximately 10 years old and 7 lbs. More details as we get to know her better. Fostered in Warrenton, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Ember! This heartthrob has a goofy smile, the manners of a gentleman, and a heart of gold. This fragile soul spent WEEKS in a crowded shelter after being found wandering alone as a stray. The second he stepped through our door, he completely lit up. Within hours, he was following his foster like a tiny flickering shadow ~ smiling, tail wagging, tongue peeking out when he woke from naps. His foster mom says he's so well-behaved and so happy to finally be included in a family. Ember's ideal home has people who are around most of the time, want to take him on plenty of walks and fun adventures, and love to cuddle. He wants to spend most of his day on the couch with his humans, supervising any kitchen activities, and snacking on all the treats. When Ember wakes up from naps, his little tongue sticks out, like it's been searching for snacks in his sleep. As if that weren't cute enough, one ear tends to flip back in his sleep so he wakes up with lopsided ears to match his lopsided grin. Ember loves going for leash walks (in nice weather only - he's not big on snow and we don't blame him one bit!) and is equally happy to ride along in the car. He is housetrained and generally sleeps through the night. While his vision and hearing aren't perfect, he still bounds up and down stairs and can even jump up onto the couch. He doesn't need a ton of exercise, but he absoutely needs a ton of snuggles! After everything he’s been through, Ember still believes people will choose him. He's so ready to finally have someone to give all of his love to - could it be you? Ember is approximately 12 years old and 16 lbs. Fostered in Germantown, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org
