Story
Nyssa is a 3-4 year-old spayed female Border Collie, around 40 lbs, who was rescued from a local CA shelter. Sadly, before finding herself abandoned and alone at the shelter, she likely grew up in the backyard confined to a kennel. Nyssa is now learning to live as a domestic pet. Amazingly and despite this, she remains a lively, energetic, and otherwise healthy dog who is remarkably intelligent, craves human interaction, and is very loyal to her hooman. Nyssa is intelligent, already understanding various commands such as "sit," "leave it" “sit pretty” and "inside” to go into the house.  She is also deeply loyal to her guardian and has a strong capacity for forming deep bonds typical of her breed. She is truly a remarkable dog who has the capacity to grow into an even more amazing companion through continued obedience training and by establishing a trusting relationship with her guardian. Nyssa is incredibly affectionate and loves people. She can be around other dogs without being on leash reactive. However, off leash and once confident, she has a habit of herding dogs, considering the trait of her breed. Nyssa loves to play ball and might be a Treibball enthusiast!  She walks well on a loose leash, crate trained and housebroken and sleeps through the night on her dog bed. Tested well with cats, but like with dogs, once confident, it is possible she may try to herd them, so possible she may need supervision/management.  Ther Ideal Family for Nyssa is: &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Someone who understands her breed Border Collies, her adjustment to living in a home, and provides her sufficient mental and physical stimulation. &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Someone who values bonding with their dog and is ready to build a deep connection. &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Someone who can provide yard space for Nyssa to move and exercise freely. Nyssa still loves people and finds her greatest happiness in being with her Hooman. With so much intelligence and energy Nyssa has limitless potential to become your perfect lifelong companion. Her right family, is one that understands her and is ready to provide her with love, care and proper training – then she is your girl! Story
Looks like: Border Collie mix Female, 5 years old (estimated), 53 pounds Fern is looking for a home that will give her lots of exercise - a couple of runs daily would be ideal. If you are looking for a running or hiking buddy, Fern would love to be your gal. Fern has an active mind. She is learning the difference between what she is allowed to play with and what is off limits. She is very good at entertaining herself by dragging large dog beds around the house. She loves other dogs, and she is intrigued by cats, but doesn't hurt them. People outside of her usual pack are scary. She is skittish in places she doesn't know and jumps at sudden sounds. She currently lives in a remote area and will likely adjust once she has more positive experiences. Fern was found as a stray in a rural area of Monterey County, and sadly no one came looking for her. We can't wait for this beautiful girl to bond with her people and blossom in time!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Zaida! If you’ve been searching for a sweet, silly, treat-powered sidekick, Zaida’s your girl. This gorgeous border collie mix was rescued after being found on the side of the road, and she’s gone from rags to zoomies in no time. Now she’s living her best foster life and is officially ready to find her forever family! Zaida is basically the definition of main character energy. She loves being the center of attention, thrives on praise (and snacks, obviously), and has perfected the art of dramatic herding-dog stares. She’s not here for apartment life, this girl needs a yard to live out her zoomie dreams. Think of her as your personal Peloton instructor, but fuzzier and way cuter. She’s also a one-of-a-kind pup with her own quirks. Zaida has a condition called idiopathic head tremor syndrome (IHTS)—translation: sometimes her head and body do little wiggles of their own. It’s benign and just part of her unique vibe. Along with that, she’s on long-term meds to help with anxiety and OCD, which help her stay her sweet, snuggly, happy self. Zaida would do best with experienced adopters who understand herding breeds and are ready to keep her brain and body busy. She prefers to be the solo diva in the house but does fine with other dogs too. No tiny humans under 8, please, she’s still working on her social graces. ** This pet is a Foster-to-Adopt candidate! That means you can foster them for a short trial period to make sure they’re the perfect match for your home before finalizing the adoption. If you’re interested, please complete both a foster application and an adoption application so we can get the process started. ** Zaida is currently in a loving foster home. A meet and greet can be scheduled once an online adoption application has been submitted and approved by AFRP staff. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org to fill one out today!

Story
This is Hoover, male, also almost 7mths old. Fully vaccinated 1st full rounds of puppy shots Sept 19th and also born May 13th as his sister Daisy, they are litter mates. He however will be much larger in size! Probably around 70+lbs full grown. Loves to herd and chase everything and me. He is very strong willed, protective, clumsy, goofy personality, soft soul, clingy, loves to snuggle and give many kisses. Hasn't had a lot of out in the world exposure nor people and other dog socializing, but is getting knowledge and better with it everyday. He's a loyal guard dog who could benefit hugely in working on a farm, or agility training with consistent mental cognitive activities. Loves to nap and goof play with his human too. I believe he'd be great with other working dogs to follow in their lead and has already done great with friendly calmer dogs too after some time of warming up to them. Great on walks, but nervous with loud noises. He will be a great dog under the right handler.

Story
This is Daisy, she's the female runt. Almost 7mths old, born May 13th, fully vaccinated 1st full rounds of puppy shots on Sept 19th. Easily trainable, very smart, super goofy, loving yet spicy high busy energy. Recall great in a home base comfortable environment, can sit, sit pretty, wait (short period) and loves to chase and play with toys and stuffed animals. Getting better at potty training, still working on alerting me when need to go out to potty. However, good at using potty pads indoors over rugs. She is very playful and good with friendly calmer dogs after some time to warm up around them in a home base environment. Friendly to calm natured kids. In public around people and loud noises she is shy and timid, submits to being touched and say hello when being held. Getting better on leash walks and learning to release on pulling with a soft prong collar. When out in public my truck is her safe place. However, she will sniff, pee and calm down on walks when surrounding is calm.

Story
HI - I'M PACO! I am a sweet 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix in need of a forever home! I was rescued from the streets of Ensenada, Mexico, by a compassionate Canadian couple who then tried to find me a home. Eventually I was placed in a rescue and am doing great! Now, I spend my days running around, playing with my doggy pals, and then taking a much needed nap! I weigh only 40 lbs and am a happy, fun-loving boy. I am an affectionate sweetheart and love nothing more than to snuggle. I'm also fully housebroken and great with cats! Personality-wise, I'm quite mellow but I do get excited when I'm showered with love and attention. I can't wait to become someone's best friend! Please email for an application.
