Lincoln Log will be adopted through our Foster-to-Adopt program until he is neutered by our veterinarian. Participation in this program requires that he be returned to our rescue for the spay procedure once surgery appointments become available.Because of this requirement, we are currently limiting applicants to those who live within 60 miles of our rescue in De Soto to ensure timely scheduling and coordination. Our veterinary team has been extremely busy completing these procedures, and when surgery appointments open, we often need to act quickly. Coordinating returns from longer distances has proven to be challenging. To determine whether a dog has been spayed or neutered, please visit the dog’s profile on our website. Once the procedure has been completed, the profile will display “Spayed/Neutered” with a checkmark next to that designation. This notation will not appear until surgery is complete.

Story
Moxie is a 2-year-old Border Collie mix. She is pretty shy, but is a deeply loving girl looking for a patient home. This sweet girl takes time to build trust, but once she does, her bond is lifelong. She is fully potty trained, very smart, and thrives on routine. She does best in a quiet home with dog-savvy kids ages 10+ and people who understand fearful dogs.Moxie is polite but independent with other dogs—happy to greet and then do her own thing. She may do well with confident, dog-savvy cats, but could chase if they run. She walks nicely on leash when she feels safe and enjoys hiking, agility and paddle boarding. Crowds and loud noises are hard for her, and she’ll need a quiet, safe space during fireworks. She is an active dog who needs regular exercise and mental stimulation. She loves toys (especially squeaky ones), is treat-motivated when comfortable, and has shown great potential in training despite minimal experience. Because of her sensitivities, Moxie will require mulitple meet and greets with her potential adopters to ensure a successful forever home for her! She has proved she can form a strong bond with her foster parent, and would love a home of her home. If you are patient, kind, active and willing to earn her trust, you will gain a best friend that will be yours forever! You can fill out an application on our website to meet Moxie :)

I'm a lucky dog and smart, too! I was chosen to go to college with the MSU Companion Animal students at MSU and I graduated! I spent 10 weeks learning great stuff with the students and now I'm ready for a real job - like loving you! I learn quickly, already know commands and I'm house trained. I'd love to have an active family and a job to do - just a sling care of you would be an honor. Don't you want to meet me? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2424236##

If you’re looking for something sweet without the sugar crash, Oreo is your guy! Just like his namesake, he’s a classic favorite who is impossible to resist. Oreo is a "very sweet" dog who believes that life is better when it’s shared with a best friend. He’s the kind of dog who brings a smile to everyone’s face just by walking into the room. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story
Wesson is the kind of dog who looks right into your heart and seems to understand exactly what you’re saying. At just a year old, he’s the perfect blend of youthful energy and eagertoplease sweetness. With his striking tricolor coat and bright, intelligent eyes, he turns heads everywhere he goes. Wesson came to us from the Bolivar Pound, and despite his uncertain start, he has shown nothing but friendliness and curiosity. He loves people, enjoys exploring new places, and is always ready for a walk, a game, or a cuddle—whatever you’re offering. His herdingbreed mix gives him a smart, attentive personality, and he’s the kind of dog who will thrive with someone who enjoys teaching, bonding, and having a loyal companion by their side. He’s young, trainable, and full of potential. Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy, a yardplaying partner, or a best friend to share the couch with, Wesson is ready to be that dog.
