Story
I’m off to college, but I’ll be graduating on November 14 and ready for my new home then. I must explain. I was chosen to be a part of the DARR Center Department of Ag Companion Animal Program this semester at MSU in Springfield, MO. You see, I really have gone to college. And, I’m one lucky dog! The students are working with me and 5 of my friends on basic commands and behaviors. I’ll be all polished up and ready for a new family when I’m finished here. If you’d like to meet me in the meantime, we can set up a virtual appointment – otherwise, I’ll be at my graduation ceremony/adoption event on Friday, November 14 just waiting for my forever family to come along. Get ready to break ground on a lifetime of love with this hardworking (and heart-melting) Border Collie mix puppy! I am full of energy, smarts, and affection—ready to help build a forever home. I am sweet, charming, and oh-so-smart. Watch your heart expand—no hard hat required. Adopt me lay the foundation for a lifetime of love! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2424236##

Story
Jace is a 6 yr old Border Collie-Heeler mix who is a sweet, snuggly, happy, energetic, incredibly intelligent and sensitive guy. He does well with most dogs but has some toy and food guarding. He is fully house trained, uses a doggy door to go outside and has free run of the house. He has anxiety in a kennel and loud noises scare him, he hides. Loves car rides, will play ball, stick or frisbee all day. Excellent recall off leash. He loves activity but also a warm bed to sleep in. Jace is healthy and would be a great hiking, biking, agitity, sports partner. Best in a home with older children as young children's movement can be unpredictable. If you are looking for a best buddy to share lots of adventure and snuggles with, Jace is your guy. Jace likes people and is super friendly. Must be an inside dog that has access to outdoors.

Freya is a very energetic and loving puppy. She needs a home with lots a room to run and be wild. Freya is kennel trained and we have made progress with going outside. Freya does have a lot of anxiety and will need someone that is great with dogs that’s have that. She loves to cuddle. Story
Meet Piper!I’m an almost 5-month-old Border Collie mixaliscious girl!Since I am still a puppy, as well as an active breed, I have a LOT of energy. I love to have a job to do as a well as a large yard to run and play, as it would be my dream come true! My foster dad thinks that my type of home would be similar to that of a ranch-type setting, farm setting, or even just an active family that is willing to keep up with my activity level and focus! I can spend hours playing with my toys and love to fetch balls, sticks, or anything you can throw, but I am also very, very smart! My foster dad has taught me a lot of new things such as how to walk on leash, going potty outside, and has even been taking me to puppy classes at the Zoom Room in West Des Moines. There I have learned commands such as `sit`, `down`, `stand`, and `leave it` even at the beginner`s class! I am crate trained and don’t mind being in my crate at night, but I do love company from my foster fur siblings, so I don’t cry in my kennel. Another dog might help me feel more comfortable, but I also love being petted by my favorite people, so I can settle down on a couch or dog bed and still be very happy. I would love the opportunity to meet with my future family to make sure that it will be the right fit, whether it be adults, children, or other animals! If you would like to apply to be my new family, please fill out an adoption application on our website! I hope to meet you soon!

Story
Moxie is a 2-year-old Border Collie mix. She is pretty shy, but is a deeply loving girl looking for a patient home. This sweet girl takes time to build trust, but once she does, her bond is lifelong. She is fully potty trained, very smart, and thrives on routine. She does best in a quiet home with dog-savvy kids ages 10+ and people who understand fearful dogs.Moxie is polite but independent with other dogs—happy to greet and then do her own thing. She may do well with confident, dog-savvy cats, but could chase if they run. She walks nicely on leash when she feels safe and enjoys hiking, agility and paddle boarding. Crowds and loud noises are hard for her, and she’ll need a quiet, safe space during fireworks. She is an active dog who needs regular exercise and mental stimulation. She loves toys (especially squeaky ones), is treat-motivated when comfortable, and has shown great potential in training despite minimal experience. Because of her sensitivities, Moxie will require mulitple meet and greets with her potential adopters to ensure a successful forever home for her! She has proved she can form a strong bond with her foster parent, and would love a home of her home. If you are patient, kind, active and willing to earn her trust, you will gain a best friend that will be yours forever! You can fill out an application on our website to meet Moxie :)

Story
Meet Cary! Cary is an independent little explorer with a big personality! This curious girl loves to investigate everything around her — she’s always checking out what the other pups are up to and making sure she doesn’t miss any of the action. Confident and playful, Cary especially enjoys wrestling and romping around with her dog friends. She does well in her kennel and has a healthy appetite — in fact, she’s not shy about reminding you when it’s mealtime! Cary is currently working on her potty training and will need a family committed to continuing her training and helping her grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. With consistency and patience, she’ll thrive.Cary is good with both dogs and people, making her a wonderful companion for a variety of homes. She’s ready to find a family who will appreciate her independent spirit, playful energy, and loving heart. Her adoption fee is $300.If you’re interested in meeting Cary, please fill out the adoption application on our website:www.foreverhomedogs.orgCould Cary be the perfect addition to your family? All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.
