Tessie is a 5 year old petite 45lb brindle mix looking for a forever home. She was adopted out as a puppy and lived with cats, kids and other dogs in the past. She can be selective about her dog friends so would need a meet and two week trial run to ensure compatibility - she tends to do better with male doggos / ones that don't get into her business, but she's a wonderful listener so that helps as well. She will take a little bit of time to adjust, but with the right patient owner she will be a great addition. She is a perfect leash walker and loves car rides! Tessie's adoption fee is $250 and she's fully vetted / ready to meet people any time. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Hi, I'm Gerdi! I'm an adorable and sweet babygirl looking to call your home mine. I was found following people around looking for food and a nice samaratian picked me up and donated to help save me! I'm a bit on the thin side but the shelter is working on putting some weight on me. I will be a medium sized girl, probably nothing over 35-40 lbs. I love attention and snuggles :))) If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas at least monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Hutch is a 45 lb border collie mix with a lot of energy. He is a quick learner who is extremely food motivated and knows sit, lie down, settle, come, and heel. His ideal owners would lead active lifestyles and be willing to take him on long walks/runs and have a large fenced in yard. He is potty trained and roams freely in the house without accidents. He is reactive to other dogs (especially larger dogs) and we have found that a gentle leader leash will help direct his attention back to you. Needs a proper introduction to dogs similar or larger in size. Neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and flea treatment. He currently lives with two cats and is scared of them. He also lives with a small 15 lb dog and plays a little too aggressively sometimes, but has never hurt them. Loves head scratches and belly rubs.
