Story
Meet Pythagoras! SEE STRAYCATION UPDATE BELOW! This 50-pound border collie/husky mix is five years old and is as wonderful as they come! You don't have to be a math whiz to realize how special this boy is! Pythagoras is back at the kennel after enjoying some much needed time away in a foster home. We we are excited to share all we've learned about this amazing boy. House-trained & crate-trained, he aims to please! Pythagoras lived with a feline friend and he may have the capacity to live with a dog-savvy cat that can hold their own. He also loves playing with other pups so if you're looking for a pal for your dog, check him out! Handsome and attentive, this boy is the whole package. Pythagoras enjoys his time outdoors where you can witness his curious, playful side. He rides well in the car, is good on leash, and is ready to hit the town with you! Check out his outing video! He'd make an excellent travel pal and hiking buddy! Pythagoras already knows how to sit and is a fan of all sorts of treats. He knows a few different commands and is highly trainable. Pythogoras loves all sorts of toys and would benefit from food puzzles and other toys providing mental stimulation. Keeping him engaged is key to keeping him a happy boy! His foster family had no issues taking food or toys away. Of course Pythagoras also has a sensitive side and loves to be close to his people. You'll often find him nuzzled up on a comfy chair next to his people where he proceeds to give the best kisses! He'll never pass up a belly rub and is a very connecting boy. He also does well in the bath. Pythagoras with thrive in an active home with lots of daily exercise, continued training with boundaries, and a yard to enjoy. Someone with border collie experience is preferred. At the end of the day, he sleeps quietly through the night and will curl up with you in bed if allowed. Based on our evaluation, we feel Pythagoras would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages twelve and up. He may have the capacity to live in a home with other dogs and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you think he could be the pup for you, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our playful Pythagoras!

Story
Hello, I'm Flash, a young and energetic pup with a heart full of hope and a mind full of potential! I'm a friendly and social guy who just adores the company of people. I am about a year old and 41 pounds of love. With my keen intelligence, I'm always up for a good mental challenge, and I find great joy in tasks and activities that keep my mind active and engaged. In my downtime, I love nothing more than forming deep connections with my favorite people. I'm an extremely affectionate boy who thrives on leadership and direction. I'm also sensitive and responsive to my surroundings, taking cues from those around me to guide my actions. An ideal day for me includes a good hike with a purpose—perhaps with a backpack to carry some gear? I love feeling useful and part of a team! I'm always eager to please and ready for adventures, big or small. I'm looking for a special family who understands the unique traits and needs of my herding breed. I just love other dogs, so if there is another friendly pup in the home, I would love to meet them. My best friend here at the rescue is Alistair, we have so much fun together. I have a very balanced play style and can let other dogs take the lead, I seem to be very tolerant of other dog's shenanigans! A home with active individuals who can provide me with the mental stimulation and physical exercise I thrive on would be perfect and where any children are at least 13 years old. In return, I promise to be your loyal companion, offering endless love and fun adventures. With my boundless enthusiasm and devotion, I know I can be the paw-some addition to your life that you've been waiting for. I would love it if you came to meet me, I think I am the perfect blend of fun and affection and I can't wait for a family to love. If you are interested in Flash and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
My dog’s name is Ace. I purchased him when he was only 8 weeks old. He is a Border Doodle. (Border Collie/ Standard Poodle) He is now almost 5 years old come this July 24th. He is house trained. He responds to general commands such as sit, stay, come, give me paw. He is very smart. He loves to play outside. He likes to fetch. He loves running playing hide and seek and basketball. He loves going on walks. He loves treats. He eats twice a day with treats in between. I do not have any other pets so I don’t know how he will react to another pet. I have grandchildren and he does well with them. He seems to have anxiety towards people he doesn’t know but once he gets your scent and gets to know you he’s fine. Overall he is an awesome sweet boy. I work during the day and I don’t have the energy after work to walk him and spend time with him like he deserves. I’m looking for someone to spend time with him and to love him like me.

Story
Meet ✨Dami✨ — a beautiful, intelligent girl with a thoughtful personality and the classic brains and drive that come with a herding breed. Dami can be a little reserved when first meeting new people and situations, preferring to take her time to observe and feel comfortable before fully opening up. Once she begins to trust you, though, her sweet and loyal personality truly starts to shine. As a herding dog, Dami is incredibly smart and thrives when she has both mental and physical outlets. She’s the kind of dog who enjoys having a “job” to do, whether that’s learning new skills, going on adventures, working on training, solving enrichment puzzles, or staying active alongside her people. Without enough stimulation, her busy herding-dog brain can easily become bored, so she’s looking for a home that understands the importance of enrichment, routine, and structure. Dami would do best with a patient family willing to let her warm up at her own pace and help continue building her confidence through positive experiences. She isn’t the type of dog to instantly jump into every situation, but with time, kindness, and consistency, she forms deep bonds and becomes an incredibly rewarding companion. She’s searching for a forever home that will appreciate both her sensitive side and her intelligent working-dog nature. With the right guidance, plenty of enrichment, and lots of love, Dami has all the potential to grow into an amazing best friend and loyal partner for life. ✨ - Around 4 years old - Currently 45lbs and on track to lose a couple pounds - Prefers to be the only dog in the home - Adoption fee: $175 To inquire about this dog, please email dogs@adoptapetfenton.com. Include information about your family and pets, what you are looking for in a canine companion, how you plan to exercise and train this dog, and why this specific dog seems like a good fit for your family. Those who provide the previous information will be considered first for this canine. Please do NOT call our center. This will help us match you and the animal the best we can. We usually respond via email within 24-48 hours; please check your spam folder if you don't hear from us. Dog adoption fees include spay/neuter, rabies vaccine (if age-appropriate), distemper/parvo combination vaccine, leptospirosis vaccine (if age-appropriate), bordetella vaccine, deworming, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea preventative, a dental cleaning (if necessary), and a microchip. Future vaccines, tests, and treatments will be the responsibility of the adopter.

Thanks to Glamour Paws Grooming in Imlay City for sponsoring the adoption fee for Eve!Meet Eve! A VERY nice girl who arrived to PAR on December 23rd after she found herself impounded at the county shelter from running the streets in Sanilac County. This young lady is full of life and there is never a dull moment with this girl! Eve loves to entertain herself playing with toys on her own and is quite independent. When she feels a bit stressed, she will calm herself down by suckling on a blanket (never chews it).Eve communicates well when it comes to her needs and she does best with a routine, like most dogs. Her favorite activities are playing with a flirt pole, fetch, and going for walks which Eve is an excellent loose leash walker! Just because Eve is known to be a higher energy breed, she has a very calm nature to her personality!Eve’s ideal family and home would be:Someone that likes to walk daily. Not gone long hours as Eve would like to be a big part of your day!Take her on car rides as Eve loves going on adventures.Someone who doesn’t mind dogs on furniture.Allow Eve to give smooches too!Children over 8 years oldInformation on Eve:𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅: Cattle Dog Mix (herding breed)𝑨𝒈𝒆: Adult, Est 2 years old𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓: Female𝑺𝒊𝒛𝒆: Medium, approx. 50 lbs.𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓: Bi-color (White & Tan)𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆/Crate-𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅: Yes𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉: Tested, H/W-.
