Story
Hello, I'm Flash, a young and energetic pup with a heart full of hope and a mind full of potential! I'm a friendly and social guy who just adores the company of people. I am about a year old and 41 pounds of love. With my keen intelligence, I'm always up for a good mental challenge, and I find great joy in tasks and activities that keep my mind active and engaged. In my downtime, I love nothing more than forming deep connections with my favorite people. I'm an extremely affectionate boy who thrives on leadership and direction. I'm also sensitive and responsive to my surroundings, taking cues from those around me to guide my actions. An ideal day for me includes a good hike with a purpose—perhaps with a backpack to carry some gear? I love feeling useful and part of a team! I'm always eager to please and ready for adventures, big or small. I'm looking for a special family who understands the unique traits and needs of my herding breed. I just love other dogs, so if there is another friendly pup in the home, I would love to meet them. My best friend here at the rescue is Alistair, we have so much fun together. I have a very balanced play style and can let other dogs take the lead, I seem to be very tolerant of other dog's shenanigans! A home with active individuals who can provide me with the mental stimulation and physical exercise I thrive on would be perfect and where any children are at least 13 years old. In return, I promise to be your loyal companion, offering endless love and fun adventures. With my boundless enthusiasm and devotion, I know I can be the paw-some addition to your life that you've been waiting for. I would love it if you came to meet me, I think I am the perfect blend of fun and affection and I can't wait for a family to love. If you are interested in Flash and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
***Archie is in a foster home, so he is not at the kennel. If you are interested in him, please fill out an application at K9stray.com and we will be in touch. Thank you*** Did somebody say toys, Archie is in! He is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 52 pounds. Meet Archie, he is a bundle of silly joy, and a playful, curious pup who is looking for his forever family. This brave boy came to K9 with a rare skin condition that required months of medical treatment that caused some hair loss. With the care of a great veterinary team and a dedicated foster, he has recovered wonderfully, and his new hair is slowly growing back. Archie will soon be a very handsome guy (well, we of course thought he was handsome the whole time)! He is very connecting and loves to hang out with you. You can tell how smart he is by how he watches you, wanting to please. Archie is looking for an active family who can keep up with his playful nature and provide him with plenty of mental and physical stimulation. He will bring endless happiness and love to his new home with his goofy puppylike antics and cheerful disposition. He will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old. Archie would just love it if you wanted to meet him. His foster mom has so many wonderful things to say about him: Archie is a joy to have. He loves toys and tennis balls. He is all happy puppy and is working on a few more commands and being a little better on a leash. He is super smart and very correctable and loves to learn. He loves being outside, going for walks and exploring. He is crate trained & pretty much house trained. He has not been exposed to cats but gets along great with my basset hound. He enjoys being close to you and is a great boy! He has learned to love car rides also. If you are interested in Archie and are at least 21 years old, please fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Meet Pythagoras! THRIVING IN FOSTER! This 50-pound border collie/husky mix is five years old and is as wonderful as they come! You don't have to be a math whiz to realize how special this boy is! Pythagoras is currently living it up in his fabulous foster home and we are excited to share all we've learned about this amazing boy. House-trained & crate-trained, he aims to please! He knows a few different commands and is highly trainable. Pythagoras lives with a feline friend currently, and while interested in the cat, he does respond to correction. We think he may have the capacity to live with a dog-savvy show can hold their own. Curious and playful, Pythagoras enjoys his time outdoors. He enjoys all sorts of outings. He rides well in the car, is good on leash, and is ready to hit the town with you! Check out his outing video! He also loves playing with other pups. If you're looking for a pal for your dog, check him out! He'd make an excellent travel pal and hiking buddy too! Handsome and attentive, this boy is the whole package. He already knows how to sit and is a fan of all sorts of treats. He has a sensitive side and loves to be close to his people. You'll often find Pythagoras nuzzled up on a comfy chair next to his people where he proceeds to give the best kisses! He'll never pass up a belly rub and is a very connecting boy. Pythogoras loves all sorts of toys and would benefit from food puzzles and other toys providing mental stimulation. Keeping him engaged is key to keeping him a happy boy! He does well in the bath and hasn't found a treat he doesn't like! His foster family has no issues taking food or toys away. Pythagoras with thrive in an active home with lots of daily exercise, continued training with boundaries, and a yard to enjoy. He will need lots of mental stimulation and will make and excellent companion for years to come. Someone with border collie experience is preferred. At the end of the day, he sleeps quietly through the night and will curl up with you in bed if allowed. Based on our evaluation, we feel Pythagoras would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the capacity to live in a home with other dogs and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you think he could be the pup for you, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our playful Pythagoras!

** CURRENTLY IN A LOVING FOSTER HOME, PLEASE SUBMIT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING ME!! ** 💛🐾 MEET ARI 🐾💛 Sweet Ari… a dog who has already overcome so much, and one of the most deeply loving souls you will ever meet. When Ari first arrived, she was absolutely terrified. You couldn’t approach her, you couldn’t sit near her, the world felt too big, too scary, too unknown. But with patience, kindness, and time… everything changed. Within just a few weeks, this same scared girl was sleeping in bed, soaking up belly rubs, and learning what it truly means to feel safe and loved. 🌿 HER BEAUTIFUL TRANSFORMATION Ari is naturally a shy, sensitive dog, but when she feels secure, her personality blooms. 💛 Playful with her dog friends 💛 Loves running freely in the yard 💛 Adores walks and outdoor adventures 💛 A total cuddle bug when it’s time to relax She has discovered joy. She has discovered comfort. And most importantly… she has discovered trust. 🐾 WHAT ARI NEEDS TO THRIVE Ari’s next home must be one that understands her heart. ✔️ A securely fenced yard is REQUIRED for her safety and confidence ✔️ Another playful, confident dog is REQUIRED, she truly blossoms with a canine companion ✔️ A quiet, low-traffic home ✔️ No children ✔️ An experienced adopter who understands fearful or shy dogs Ari bonds deeply, but she needs the space to do it on her terms. She cannot be rushed or forced, and in return, she will give you a level of loyalty that is incredibly special. 💭 A FEW THINGS TO KNOW • Fully house trained. • Does not require a crate. • Learning to enjoy car rides, will need continued positive exposure. • Not a fan of baths or nail trims (who is, honestly?). • Has allergies that are well managed with Apoquel. She may initially feel more comfortable with women, but with patience, she has shown she can build trust with men too. 💖 HER PERFECT MATCH Ari is looking for someone who understands that healing isn’t linear, and that the most meaningful bonds take time. Someone who will: • Let her come to them • Celebrate her small wins • Give her consistency, safety, and love In return? You’ll get a loyal shadow, a snuggle partner, and a dog who will choose you, fully and forever. 🌅 THE LIFE SHE DESERVES Ari deserves slow mornings, sunny afternoons in the yard, playful moments with her dog friend, and peaceful nights curled up beside her person. She’s not just looking for a home. She’s looking for her safe place. 📩 Apply to adopt Ari and be the one who gives her the second chance she’s waited for. Requirements: 1. Fenced in yard! 2. 🐾💙 MEET LEO 💙🐾 Leo is a handsome 9-week-old farm-rescue puppy looking for his forever home! This sweet boy is going to grow into the perfect medium-sized companion — big enough for adventures, but still easy to manage. They told us Mom was a terrier. But didn’t look like it at all. We rescued Leo and his littermates from a farm in Indiana, and now he’s being fostered in Richmond, Michigan while he waits for the family meant just for him. ❤️ ✅ 9 weeks old ✅ Up to date on shots ✅ Dewormed ✅ Healthy, happy, and playful ✅ Expected to be a nice medium-sized dog Leo would love a family to grow up with — someone to throw toys, give belly rubs, and love him forever. 📞 Please call or text Foster Mom Tammy at 248-722-1308 to set up a time to meet Leo!
