She would do best in a home with no cats or small dogs. Maizy is still working on manners so a home with children over the age of 12 years would be best. I adopted Rocky in 2023 he was one year old at the time. He and his brother had been at the shelter since they were 6 weeks old. He is half Collie and half Pyrenees. His personality is all Pyrenees. He doesn't like children at all. He has some anxiety issues and was on doggy Xanax at the shelter. They said the anxiety was caused by the shelter. My son and I wanted a pet and he is very cuddly and sweet but he would prefer to spend most of his time outside. He lives in an apartment with me now and seems sad most of the time. He is without a doubt the BEST watch dog on earth. He'll let you know if someone is coming. He would never let someone rob you. Even though he's a working dog by breed, he's never actually worked but I'm sure he'd love too. He does not do any tricks or follow any commands. If you ever met a Pyr you know what I'm saying. He's not food motivated at all. He's pretty indifferent to dog treats. He likes people food if you offer it but he doesn't beg

A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.(Sending an "Inquiry" via Petfinder does not constitute an application.) **Updated Bio**If you have ever wanted a Border Collie with all of the smarts and energy that comes with them, meet Bunny (no jokes about my name please. Have you seen my ears?). Bunny is a 35 lb., 13- month-old border collie with all of the characteristics you would expect in a true border collie. She has a very high energy level and is quite intelligent. Bunny would probably make a great sport dog. She is extremely fast and has legs that let her leap high into the air. She has recently discovered frisbee play and is learning all the ins and outs of keeping up with the flying disc. Bunny loves to explore the world and go on long sniffer walks. These long, unstructured walks allow her lots of mental stimulation, a must if you want to have a calm home. Bunny enjoys playing ball for a few minutes, but would rather race around the yard as the other dogs fetch the ball. Fast would be an understatement for this girl. She is up for trick training, but finds that difficult to focus in her foster home with four other dogs. There is always something more exciting than silly tricks. Water is a favorite with this pup, especially after exercise. Bunny loves exploring the lake, running through the water and the mud, flopping down in the wading pool, or chasing the hose. She is quite loving and will happily sit on a lap or on the floor for affection, once her energy and mental needs have been met. Bunny has a nice off switch, settling in with a favorite chew toy or napping. As she approaches bedtime, it is necessary for her to race around the backyard a couple of times to get out the last minute bugs. It takes Bunny a few minutes to warm up to new people and new things in her environment. Once she is comfortable with someone, they will be her friends for life. She is very enthusiastic when greeting people, so would be best for older children. She is being fostered with a mini Aussie, so sometimes doesn’t understand that she is bigger, stronger, and more exuberant than her foster sister. While Bunny is great with other dogs and definitely needs a companion dog. She is not good with cats, finding them to be very rewarding to chase. She is not good with chickens or other small animals, like moles in the garden. Bunny is spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. She is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and has excellent recall. Dorito is a one year-old, 34 pound male neutered Border Collie, who is currently in a Kansas City area shelter. He was initially a stray in Oklahoma and was transferred to the Kansas City shelter. Dorito loves his people, is a very active and driven boy, and would likely make a great sport prospect. He shows great focus, toy drive and a fantastic tug. While he doesn't always return with the disc, it's simply a matter of teaching him the rules of the game. Dorito enjoys interacting with the other dogs in large playgroups with dogs big and small. It's unknown how he is with cats, however. Dorito is highly alert on walks and if walking too close to a roadway, may lunge after cars, but is easily redirected. He also can be a leash biter but stops when told. Though he’s good with other dogs in playgroups, he will bark and pull, sometimes lunge towards other dogs when out on a walk. The shelter staff describes him as being very treat and toy motivated, Affectionate, Driven, Friendly, Happy Go Lucky, Hyper. He does still jump on people and can be mouthy, especially when trying to get you to play with him. He has shown no aggression. He is neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. Maverick is an almost 3-year-old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix looking for a very special home. Maverick is a sweet, intelligent, playful, and loyal dog who loves his people and enjoys playing, learning, and spending time with those he trusts. He is house-trained, listens well to his owners, and has worked with a professional trainer to help him with his behavioral challenges. Maverick is also a fearful and reactive dog and finding the right environment for him is extremely important. He can become uncomfortable around unfamiliar people, young children, and movement coming toward him. When he is scared or overwhelmed, he may bark, growl, or try to create distance from the situation. Maverick’s family has a young child who is now 1 and becoming increasingly mobile. Because of Maverick’s sensitivity to movement and their home’s limited space, his family has had to keep him and their son separated and carefully manage their interactions. After working with a trainer and exploring different options, they believe Maverick would have a better quality of life in a home that is better suited to his needs. He enjoys car rides, loves playing in the back yard with his red/yellow ball, and puzzle toys (did we mention he’s so smart)? He is good with other dogs after introductions. Maverick is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Maverick’s ideal home: Adult-only home with no young children Someone experienced with fearful or reactive dogs, or willing to work with a trainer on how to manage (he’ll pay you back with all the love! A calm, patient environment Ideally a house with a securely fenced yard for him to run and play Someone willing to continue working with him and give him time to build trust A home where he won’t be constantly exposed to large amounts of foot traffic, unfamiliar people, or overwhelming situations Maverick’s family is being completely transparent about his behavioral needs because their priority is finding him the right home, not simply finding him a home quickly. They love him very much and want to give him the opportunity to thrive in an environment where he feels safe and understood. Maverick’s recall is good and he listens well, but because of his fear and reactivity, his family does not trust him off-leash outside of a securely fenced area. Nami is a very smart, excitable, and loving dog. She is crate trained and has never been destructive to anything but her toys and tends to just lazy around when inside the house. She will fetch all day long and loves cuddles. The best I can describe her is that she can read the room if it’s chill time if it’s playtime if something is hers or not ect. She would be a good fit for a family with no children or other (large) dogs as she is reactive. She seems more okay with small dogs. She is protective of her humans when out and about or on walks (growling and barking). Also may be some leash aggression as we’ve noticed she does better when less restricted. She resource guards with treats like bones or kongs. She does not like if you reach into her crate while she is in it. Her triggers are pretty easily avoided most of the time and we think with lots of exposure she would be great with anyone (dog, cat, roommates, ect.) but she has a long trust building period.
