Story

Archie is a 3-year-old Border Collie who came to me as a stray, and I have had him for about two years. He is loving, affectionate, playful, intelligent, and very people-oriented. He loves meeting new friends, cuddling, fetch, walks, hikes, and especially training activities that make him feel like he has a job to do. He has completed extensive professional training, and his trainer is willing to provide a transition lesson with his new owners. Archie has done well with both large and small dogs and has a great balance of energy and calm. He can happily keep up with adventures and active play, but also settles easily at home. Like many herding breeds, he can become very focused on moving things such as cars, cats, and squirrels. I am looking for a loving, active home that will appreciate his intelligence, affection, and playful personality and continue providing exercise, structure, and engagement.

Maverick is an almost 3-year-old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix looking for a very special home. Maverick is a sweet, intelligent, playful, and loyal dog who loves his people and enjoys playing, learning, and spending time with those he trusts. He is house-trained, listens well to his owners, and has worked with a professional trainer to help him with his behavioral challenges. Maverick is also a fearful and reactive dog and finding the right environment for him is extremely important. He can become uncomfortable around unfamiliar people, young children, and movement coming toward him. When he is scared or overwhelmed, he may bark, growl, or try to create distance from the situation. Maverick’s family has a young child who is now 1 and becoming increasingly mobile. Because of Maverick’s sensitivity to movement and their home’s limited space, his family has had to keep him and their son separated and carefully manage their interactions. After working with a trainer and exploring different options, they believe Maverick would have a better quality of life in a home that is better suited to his needs. He enjoys car rides, loves playing in the back yard with his red/yellow ball, and puzzle toys (did we mention he’s so smart)? He is good with other dogs after introductions. Maverick is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Maverick’s ideal home: Adult-only home with no young children Someone experienced with fearful or reactive dogs, or willing to work with a trainer on how to manage (he’ll pay you back with all the love! A calm, patient environment Ideally a house with a securely fenced yard for him to run and play Someone willing to continue working with him and give him time to build trust A home where he won’t be constantly exposed to large amounts of foot traffic, unfamiliar people, or overwhelming situations Maverick’s family is being completely transparent about his behavioral needs because their priority is finding him the right home, not simply finding him a home quickly. They love him very much and want to give him the opportunity to thrive in an environment where he feels safe and understood. JB is a sensitive, intelligent dog who is slowly learning to trust the world again. He recently made the long trip back from Iowa and handled it without any issues. Since arriving, he has begun settling into a predictable routine and has made strong bonds with the resident dogs—especially the Malinois and a female German Shepherd he absolutely adores. JB is skittish by nature and will need a patient adopter who can give him the space and time he needs. He is wary of new people and uncomfortable with handling. While he wags his tail and shows clear affection toward his trusted person, he does not enjoy being touched and often stiffens when petted. He will lick your hand when you’re not looking, but he’s not yet comfortable taking treats from hands. With the right person, he may continue to grow, but he will need an adopter who respects his boundaries. JB is not recommended for homes with men, as he is generally fearful of them. A female-only home is ideal. He should also not live with cats or young children. Teenagers may be okay as long as they understand his space and needs. On the bright side, JB does beautifully with other dogs and may benefit from living with a confident canine companion. He enjoys herding-type activities, loves to run, and frequently plays with the dogs in his foster home. Outdoors, he no longer chases the horses and respects their space. He does fairly well on walks and tends to circle his person, keeping close. While he hasn’t been off-leash, he has a solid recall and doesn’t try to run off when outside. JB is housebroken, kennel trained, and goes into both his indoor and outdoor kennels easily. He knows a few basic commands like “come,” “sit,” and “kennel.” A patient training approach—or even a class—could help him build confidence, but he will need a trainer familiar with fearful dogs. JB’s ideal home is quiet, structured, and led by a patient woman who understands nervous, shut-down, or fearful dogs. A fenced yard, another friendly dog, and a calm environment would help him continue to progress. Inside the home he tends to pace, but once things are still, he settles. Sudden movements send him retreating to his kennel, though he returns once the environment is calm again. JB is a project dog—but a rewarding one for the right person. With time, consistency, and compassion, he will continue to blossom at his own pace. He’s looking for someone who sees beyond his fears and is ready to offer him the gentle, steady love he’s learning to trust. Beatrix is her name, but her friends call her Bea. And much like Junie B. Jones, she’s sassy, hilarious, and a little strong-willed. 😉 Bea is a 55-pound, 1½-year-old Border Collie mix who was found roaming the streets last winter when she was just a young pup. Now she’s ready for a family of her own and she has plenty of personality to bring with her! Bea loves a good game of tug, is one of the most popular dogs at doggie daycare, and is quite the smarty-pants. She learns quickly and is SO fun to train! She’ll play fetch, join you for a run, or happily accept belly rubs on the couch - when I say accept, you don’t have much of a choice in the matter. 🤣 She bonds quickly with her people, and once you’re her person, you’ll have a little shadow following you around the house, eager to see what you’re doing and how she can join in. She’s also potty trained and kennel trained! Bea does have some stranger danger and a tendency to guard her people and home. Her breed traits and background likely play a role in that - she’s an observant, sensitive girl who sometimes feels like keeping watch is her job. She’s making progress every day and has come SO far compared to eight months ago, but she still needs management, continued training, and slow introductions to new people and dogs. Bea gets along with kids, too! A home with children would need to be very dog savvy, with adults who can reliably manage doors and visitors. Kids opening the door for a friend or accidentally letting someone unfamiliar inside could put Bea in a situation she isn’t ready to handle. Her ideal family will be experienced, patient, and willing to keep helping her feel safe. Free training is provided after adoption so her new family has support along the way! This athletic girl would love a tall, secure fence or room to explore safely on some land, along with opportunities to exercise her busy brain and body. Bea is longing to be part of a family. If you like your dogs smart, affectionate, and just a little sassy, she might be your girl. ❤️
