Story
Benjamin is a 2-year-old, 30-pound sweetheart whose quiet strength and loving heart shine through everything he’s been through. He was found alone in a home beside his beloved human, who had passed away over a week earlier. By the time help arrived, Benjamin was extremely thin and dehydrated — yet still gentle, still trusting, still wagging his tail. We don’t know exactly what happened to his paw. Our veterinarian believes it may be from a puppy fracture that healed improperly or a congenital malformation he was born with. What we do know is that it doesn’t slow him down one bit. Benjamin runs, plays, explores, and enjoys life just like any other dog. He keeps up with his canine friends, chases toys, and happily zooms around the yard — proof that his spirit is far bigger than any physical limitation. This noble boy is deeply affectionate and incredibly grateful for kindness. He forms strong bonds with his people and has a calm, loving presence that makes you want to hug him close. Benjamin gets along beautifully with everyone he meets and has the kind of soft, soulful eyes that tell you he understands more than words ever could. After everything he’s endured, Benjamin deserves a home filled with comfort, patience, and unconditional love — a place where he will never feel alone again. In return, he will give you unwavering loyalty, joyful companionship, and a heart that is truly one of a kind. Gentle • Loyal • Resilient • Playful • Ready to love and be loved! If you believe in second chances and forever homes, Benjamin is waiting to meet you. Benjamin will arrive in Albion, NY in mid March and we would love to have a family waiting for him! * Please note: All dogs are rescues so we often do not know the actual breeds but use an educated guess to tell you what they most look like. Our adoption fee is $400 and unless otherwise stated all dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested(if age appropriate), Put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and flown from Puerto Rico. Story
Sadie is currently at a rescue in Oklahoma. We are looking for a home in a state where people treat their animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport near one of the cities listed at the bottom. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Sadie is 2 1/2 to 3 years old (February 19) and is possibly a Border Collie/Lab mix. -Come into the local shelter in Summer 2023 as a small puppy. Transferred to our rescue on June 7th -Just went through heartworm treatment and tested negative as of December 9th! -Used to be shy and timid....now she is well socialized and loves to get all of your attention and she's not afraid to ask for it! -Energetic breed who would love a nice yard to run in and a family to love on. -35-40 pounds. -Gets along with other dogs. Would do best in a home with another dog to play with. Does like to be the "alpha" with some females (never aggressive). Gets along great with males -She can walk on a leash, but it does need some work. -If home has kids, must be 10+ -Video of Sadie from February 1st: https://youtube.com/shorts/vbus4vrwJBk Sadie is spayed, vaccinated (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella), dewormed, microchipped, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. She had a negative heartworm test on December 9th. Health certificate and exam and fecal test will be performed less than 10 days prior to transport. Adoption fee is $700 total, this is including all vetting above and transport cost. Story
Meet Charlie – Your Fluffy Adventure Buddy! 1.5 Years Old 50 lbs Possible Border Collie Mix Male Looking for a high-energy sidekick who doesn’t let a little rain, snow, or Buffalo wind slow him down? Meet Charlie — a fluffy, outdoorsy free spirit with a big personality and an even bigger love for sticks Charlie was built for adventure. Long morning walks? Yes please. Evening strolls? Absolutely. Road trip? He’s already in the car. He rides beautifully and is always ready to be your co-pilot on hiking trails, nature getaways, or scenic drives. This boy thrives on movement and connection. He’s not a “just let him out in the yard” kind of pup — he needs structured walks, outdoor time, mental enrichment, and a human who enjoys staying active. When his body and brain are fulfilled, he happily curls up nearby for a well-earned nap. Charlie is still learning to navigate the world with confidence. He can be reactive to dogs and people on walks, so he’s looking for an experienced, patient adopter who understands reactivity and is committed to helping him continue building skills at his pace. With very slow, intentional introductions, he has shown he can coexist playfully and peacefully with other dogs. Because he can get overwhelmed, Charlie would do best in a quieter home with no young children (older, dog-savvy teens could be considered). He’s looking for structure, patience, and someone who will help him feel safe and secure. And let’s talk about that fluff — when his hair gets wet, it crimps into an 80s rockstar vibe that perfectly matches his wild-child spirit. Charlie’s Highlights: Active, sensitive, curious & hilarious Loves sticks, cool weather & outdoor adventures Excellent car rider Dog compatible with slow, proper introductions Best in an experienced, active home He’s not your dog-park social butterfly — he’s your loyal trail buddy, your walking partner, your “let’s get outside” motivator. If you’re ready for a devoted, goofy, adventure-loving companion and you understand that the best dogs are the ones you grow with… Charlie is ready to meet you. (73)Buddysrescue.org   ##2666766##

GRACIE (and her sister CHECKERS) are newer to the rescue and are sweet Border Collie mix pups born back in May. She's right around 25 lbs at the moment and will be a medium adult. She's good with other dogs and cats and loves people and getting attention and loving from them. Gracie is fully vetted and has done wonderfully at the rescue events we have brought her to. (DOB ~4/25/25) We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
